Zero Cup

Yah during the races I was quite surprised that I was quite a bit off of race pace. I typically do try to have a look at the hp/torque graphs to identify proper shift points, but almost every car I have driven likes to be redlined. I have never driven the Suzuki before and I just bought it and started racing, didn't bother looking at the stats, it's the Zero cup after all. :D
In the end it didn't matter cause I had a few good battles and a fun night.

The last battle with John,on the last lap where we both were drag racing for the finish line was really fun, thanks John! You did a good job driving a defensive line and you left me room at the same time. I was surprised that I snuck out a pass at the line there.

Just a quick advert to see if anyone is interested...

@reefer is starting a short Old Muscle Car championship shortly. It's on fairly late on a Saturday evening (UK) but some of you may be interested since it might be a good time for you. There a few of us of us who already have our names down for it, so hope to maybe see you there.

Hey guys,

I've never raced at Zero Cup before but many of you should know me from Makeshift Shuffle Club (which sadly seems to be dead nowadays) or my onetime appearance at Target 84 of Racers Reunited and the OOE Cup by @JockeP22 plus my special event at the End of March called the Japan Cup.

It turns out my wife will be away from our home with the baby again next week. So this is my chance for some nice online racing with you guys.

I know @tarnheld is supposed to host the next event on July 4th. But I've noticed that @Sparkz_360 is hosting every other week. So I hope an event will be scheduled for next Monday June 27th!?

Looking forward to tonight's races!

I've read the rule book which is very simliar to the other clubs I've raced at. The only thing I'm not familiar with yet is the GYF though I do understand the procedure. Actually I don't think I might be in the situation to call a GYF so all I'd have to manage is accomplishing the passive part. :D

Two more questions:

1. Track boundaries at Red Bull Ring

Is it simply always 2 wheels within the white lines - or is it allowed to use those curb extensions at the exit of the Omega (Turn 6) ?

2. Traction Control

Usually TC is prohibited in non-tuning clubs. So I'm quite used to drive with TC 0. But since I'm a DS3 and AT user it might help to set the TC to 1 or 2. I did a test race with the SLS yesterday and noticed it's tendency to oversteer when pushing the throttle too early in 2nd gear. In the rule book is stated TC is allowed at Zero Cup. Is that still correct or do you guys set TC to prohibited?

First off, welcome to the Zero Cup!

1. I haven't raced on the Red Bull Ring for a little while but I can tell that the rule of the 2 wheels inside the white lines should still apply here (unless @tarnheld has set up an exception to the rule).

2. You can indeed use traction control to your heart's content. No one will judge you. :)

Okay, thanks for the quick answer. 👍

I'll have to try TC at 1 or 2 and if it helps me being able to push harder. Usually one is slower with enabled TC but sometimes it might help. Need some more testing before the races.

Well we got there in the end (no thanks to the network gods)!
Cheers for everyone who turned up, even if you had to bail out early, @Baron Blitz Red sorry about your connection mate :(.
Cheers again. :gtpflag:

Thanks for having me along... As soon as Race #2 was in practice mode, I was having troubles, so I thought instead of possibly dragging the entire room down latency wise, I'd leave in the hopes that everyone could get through ok. Again thanks people! (Nice to see the bigger rooms, you deserve it!)

Cheers

Had a blast in race 1, reeling in amar until I missed my braking point by a whisker and slithered off with my tail between my legs.

Race 2 was terrible, can never get round that circuit. Wish I could have stayed for race 3 but as I was invisible to some, and for fear of being late for the Mrs, decided to jump out.

Great racing though and high quality driving by all

Great races, even with all the network gremlins! It was really fun to be on pace with @Sparkz_360 instead of hæmorraging half a second or more every lap. I might have even beaten him twice, if I hadn't bobbled right before he did in the last laps. Great fun! Close finishes are the bestest.

@buybon355 that was great pace in race one, I was really sweating until you outbraked yourself. I'm sure you would have been right up with the battle for the lead in race three as well.

Hopefully the network gods will smile on us more next outing. I hate that I'm usually involved somehow, but I've overhauled my network as much as I can. :x

And, it was great to see @Patrick8308 back out on course again! 👍

It's a draw between me and my rival! :D

Well we got there in the end (no thanks to the network gods)!

Fun car and first time without ABS, so entertaining, @amarynceos inspired me.

Cheers again. :gtpflag:

This seemed to be the quickest result publication ever. ;) I was really astonished when I noticed your post just about 5 Minutes after the event had ended. Great hosting @Sparkz_360! 👍

I had so much fun racing with you guys yesterday and wish I could attend more often (which likely won't be possible). My performance was better than expected but I guess those few test runs the day before helped to be competitive. Furthermore it proved to be the right decision setting TC to 1 as that helped me to control wheelspin out of 2nd gear better. Still I was loosing quite some time out of the corners compared e.g. to @amarynceos. But the key to my 3rd overall place was that I haven't done any major mistakes at Race 1 and Race 3.

The first laps at Red Bull Ring have been really intense with very good battles and a tight field. It needs to be emphasized what a great club Zero Cup with it's clean and fair members is. Everyone was leaving enough space to the others - great sportsmanship. :) In those battles I was loosing quite some time and the lead was far away soon. My pace was quite good afterwards but in the end I wasn't able to follow @Sparkz_360.

Race 2 was - well it was Streets of Willow! It took me up to the last laps to finally get that fast chicane at the long "straight" right. Before I was either flying off or braking too early which seemed to have surprised @tarnheld quite much once. I had some more run-offs here and there but I guess this was a problem for most racers. This track is really hard to master with it's tight corners and confusing terrain. Furthermore I'd say the SLS doesn't suit that track at all. It was much more fun on the other two tracks. The only good thing of Race 2 was my 4th place and the fact that I had the chance to experience a GYF - good call @Sparkz_360. 👍

The final race at Nürburgring GP was a pleasure again. I was able to keep up with @Sparkz_360 and @amarynceos the first few laps but then the two serial winners pulled away and I had quite a relaxed race.

Those visibilty issues have been really strange. :ouch: Fortunately no on-track incidents occured as it seemed I was never close to another invisible racer. I wasn't able to see @pretend racer the whole event, even not after a couple of re-joins by both of us. Furthermore @buybon355 was invisible to me at Race 2 but that happend after we had created a new room - before he was not. :odd: @amarynceos wasn't visible either two times but him re-joining helped with that problem. I have no clue what's the reason for those issues but I'd guess it's not completely random. E.g. I had never visibility problems with @tarnheld or @John Wells back at the days of Makeshift Shuffle Club. But I do remember somtimes I had those issues with @amarynceos so it could be some sort of occasionally appearing incompatibility of our connections.

Nevertheless it was a great evening. Thanks for having me!

I thought I'd watch the England v Iceland match.

Really bad decision mate! :P I was guessing you might watch football when @JockeP22 was typing in chat at the beginning of the event that you are usually online Monday evenings. You missed some fine racing while you chose to be humbled. ;)

Funnily enough I'm not really that much into football but I thought I'll watch it because they can't be that bad against Iceland. They were. And they didn't get any better. I could have come to race but carried on watching with morbid curiosity. Well done to Iceland.

It sounds like a good time was had by all on track. Shame about the network problems. I can't recall having an invisible issue for a few months at least, after I opened all the required ports on my router.

That usually happens when I'm racing as well, so not much difference. :P

Great to read and see that the momentum for this club is still strong. After all the ups and downs, next gen releases, and a plethora of "other" racing games, im loving the fact that GT6 and the spirit of the racers here is still alive and well.

I'm still hoping to get back online with you guys, I'm just stuck between homes and with a internet connection so slow it makes watching paint dry look like an animated sport!

I'll just have to wait a kittle longer...untill then,
