I don't see an SS badge ANYWHERE on that car. I'm speculating it's just a kit to make Bumblebee look a little more special.

I really hope it doesn't look like that, as those scoops combined with that front splitter makes the front end look way too chunky. It also does not flow with the rest of the car body, and looks like a particularly nasty aftermarket kit when the two elements combine.

Its a bit different from the SS prototypes that were spotted earlier before, so its hard to say. My brother hates the "scoops" on the front, but I kinda like it. We won't know until August/September for what it'll "officially" look like anyway...

+1 They did it on the Solstice in the first movie, now they've done it on a Camaro to shake things up a bit.

Motor Magazine Drives a W427 Mule

Now look, I don't mean to get my hopes up here, but after reading an article publised by Motor Magazine, they talk about the W427. They only drove a mule, so there was more gadgets inside than a Bond car, adding weight for one. They also drove it in abysmal wet conditions, and despite the conditions they were completely suprised with how much grip it had, including turn-in and corner exits! They finish the article saying the car will be properly quick when it reaches production and in dry conditions. I hope they do a Nurburgring time.:D It's also very obvious that the $100k+ Australian Super Sedan will all be snatched up very quickly. I think they've got more orders already than they intend selling. Aussie muscle is really booming, with some classic Australian cars going for $1 million AUD.

A Commodore + a LS7? I'm surprised they haven't built a few thousand already. Its almost "too easy" to some extent. Although, I do wonder that if you get the W427, if we'll just end up with a LSA-powered car instead. It almost seems like they're keeping the LS7 Corvette-exclusive here in the US.

Well, that came along quickly. I wonder if they'll over a vario hardtop, but probably not. Too expensive, and likely far too heavy. Still, looks like they've done a top-notch job. Now I just need to see it in white with the orange stripes...

I better point out, this isn't a make huge power and don't compensate scenario, the W427 has massive brakes, and better suspension, and better tyres.

I like it, one of the best looking convertibles I've ever seen.

Although it looks awesome with the top-down, with the top-up is one of the most god awful things I've seen lately.

For a soft top it looks damn good IMO. But if I ever wanted a convertible, I'd chase down a Cadillac XLR.

^ It looks ok, for a cabriolet/convertible. But the greenhose (w/ the top up) is almost as similar as the 300C. :ill:

My guess is that most of them would drive around with the top down anyway, so that won't be too much of a worry. But the thing is, in the end, I'm not sure how else GM would have made the shape any better.

Although I do wonder: Is it the color that's throwing us off?

Nah, it's a convertible. They seldom look better top-up. (F149 California is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

why would they worry about weight? it's already as heavy as challenger ( +-1800kg ) :yuck:

yeah, but GT-R has the weight ror a good reason. DSG isn't a lightweight gearbox, in addition theres 4wd etc etc.. but that belongs to other thread. I guess, since Camaro has TRRRRQ!!, it won't do too badly in hardtop form.. but ragtops..? no. just no.

God looking 'verts?

DB9 Volante / V8 Vantage Roadster.

Now, as for the roof-up shot, there's a lot of fish-eye distortion there.

Mind you, at least you'll be able to sit two peeps in the back in the rain.

Oh you mean to say there's no reason for the weight? What about the HUGE v8s that are stuffed in them? Or all the air bags, electronics, etc. Cars are not going to get lighter people.

Oh well, this thing looks pretty freakin' sweet. I waaant one. My dad can have the Challenger, I'd be able to beat him in this. :D

^ The F149 looks a bit bloated, the best looking top down cars would be in my opinion:

Roadster (hard top)
- MBZ SL-series

Roadster (soft top)
- AM DB-series
- AM Vantage-series

Cabriolet (soft top)
- MBZ CLK-series

Cabriolet (hard top)
- VW Eos

BT-> Well true, conv/cabrio/roadster are meant to go top down as much as these cars permit:

^ Sometimes every time I see a top down car top up, I see FAIL. :dopey:

Camaro-> It is pretty dissapointing that this Camaro will be heavier than it looks. At least they should have put a little effort to lighten it up a bit. :indiff:

Ehhhh...

The G8 clocks in around 1800kg, but being bigger and with all of the extra goodies, that seems to be about "average" in that size class. I'd personally expect the coupe to be closer to the previous model, somewhere around 1635-1680kg, the convertible probably being somewhere near 1725kg or so.

The Internets Are Befuddled... The REAL Camaro SS Shows Up(?)

Jalopnik
Oh yeah, sorry — in all that Transformers Corvette concept and Z28 hubub, we forgot to show you these camera phone shots taken by a forum fan-boy over at Camaro5 of what's purportedly yet another shot of a pre-production 2010 Chevy Camaro SS. Jeez, all these Camaros with their bow ties — they all look alike. Wait a second — a bow tie? This isn't a pre-production car — it's a production car! The shooter supposedly caught it on the set of a TV show with Christian Slater. No idea what that's all about. But check out that picture below of the "SS" from the back — are those air holes for a shunt in the rear bumper? Is that a clear brakelight in the rear window? Nice. Seriously, how much do we love the guys over at Camaro5?

Whats the Z/28 HUBBUB?

2010-Chevy-Camaro-Z28-rear.jpg

According to this post at Jalopnik, Bumblebee in Transformers 2 is a Z/28, not an SS. Which means in some strange way, the Z/28 will be the top-dog performance car in the Camaro lineup... Or maybe not. Because in the end, whats shown here, is probably a Saleen/Foose style kit for the car.

Wha???

I'm confused too. Now that it seems official as to what the SS looks like, that the Z/28 news is awfully strange. At least in my mind, the Z/28 should be the stripped-down performance car with the "lesser" V8 option. The SS should have all of the bells and whistles and be the performance king...

I saw a Pontiac G8 yesterday here in LA, first time I have seen one outside of Australia.

I don't get it, so the SS is basically the concept car with production spec mirrors?

Well, production spec mirrors, what appears to be 20" wheels (down from 22"), fog lamps, a sunroof (look carefully!), and a B-pillar. Nitpicks aside of course...

Still, I'd love to have seen the production-spec interior too.

I don't think that's an SS. For one, if it was an SS there'd be SS badges right? And two, the exhaust is much smaller than the V8 mule we saw lapping the 'Ring earlier. Plus there was that SS we seen on the road that time, which had the bonnet bulge and stripes. Nothing indicates this is an SS, nothing at all. There is something in the grille, but the picture is too blurry to tell for sure.

The SS badge is in the grille:

2010-Chevy-Camaro-SS-badge.jpg

My guess is that, like a proper Camaro, the stripes and all that blacked-out goodness will be "optional" across the board. The lack of SS badges, or really anything flashy in general, make it come off like a much better car.

...Thing is, instead of a bowtie, it should be an SS in the center of the grille, not on the side...
