Well, progressing a bit, got it down to 6 seconds now, but each time I pull a great lap, as in on track to make it according to the posted splits people ahve been getting, the damn cars get in my way. I got past the first guy just before the Karussel, next guy just coming into the dip then right hander with the gravel on the left, and he tagged me and sent me around, I was so damn pissed!!! I've had 2 runs where I was flying down the straight toward the end too, and a guy cut me off, or somehow I rear ended one and got a penalty. I'll get this real soon by the feel of it. Seems like I'm really stretchin it outta every corner, yet I still can't get within 6 seconds. Both those 6 second laps were with penalties mind you, I may get this within the next hour or so.

EDIT:

Woooooooo..........did it about half hour after the start of this post. Ran awesome up until a slight off coming up to the long straight, but held the draft on the 190, and I'll admit, rammed the front car at the second to last corner to get ahead, finished in 9:12.xxx, about 5 seconds up since I took out the lead car. I'm just happy it's done and I can continue on with my game :sly:

Progressing also (although not a rapidly as Falango). Got within 3sec on my best lap. I'm down to between 6 and 7sec behind on average now. I too seem to be ahead by up to 3sec through the first three checkpoints.
I'm not having any trouble with the circuit itself. I've had lons of practice in other cars and get on fine. What I am struggling with is the handling of the SLR on these crappy tyres.

My normal driving style is to brake late, turn in tight and accelerate out of the corner. I'm thinking this is my main trouble as this style does not suit the mission car at all.

I'm getting really to the stage where if I'm not -1.30.00 by the 3rd checkpoint I'm re-starting, so the 2min delay at the start is really starting to bug me. I'm gonna get some serious Free Run practice so if anyone knows a setup for the SLR that will get it as close to the mission car I'd be real grateful if you could message me.

use the SLR on S2's in Arcade Time Trial mode with tcs and asm ON.
thats as close as you can get to the mission car.
the GT Mode car seems to have a different stock suspension setup for some reason... but the Arcade one feels almost the same.

congrats 👍

and yeah, once you get the handling down the hardest part is the overtaking.
i can't count the ammout of brilliant runs that were spoiled by that damned 500

Between the third and 5th checkpoint I was losing alot of time. I found that through there, it's best to brake early, and get outta the turn quick. I knew right away, this test was gonna be a hell of a time, since I like to dive into the turns fast, hit the brakes hard and let the oversteer carry me through........just does not happen with this car. I had to change my style of driving so much to get this test done. Now that I've driven the Ring about 20-25 times in the McLaren, it's going to be entirely different in other cars.

I finaly passed a car last night , I did one practice lap with the cizeta v12 man that car is crappy. So when I did the mission with the slr it made it feel like it was a FGT well not that good but still the slr felt so good on my first try I caught the SL500 passed him near the end of the long strait. I was 21 Sec behind. That is my best so far. I know I suck but trust you me not for long.....Im still learning the track but its coming slowly but Im getting better.

Beats my first try, I was 52 seconds back, lol. But practice makes perfect. The wait was the worst part, so while I waited, I would sit and read this thread, lol. Then once I heard the last car take off, I'd go back. Wasn't that bad if you keep yourself occupied. If you don't stay busy, all you do is think about what can go wrong, and then ya usually flub up, and get frustrated. Frustration leads to pushing the car too hard, pushing the car too hard................well you get the idea. :scared:

I suggest you try the yellowbird with N1s and you'll feel like the slr handles like a f1. since it's a rr you'll learn to go slow in fast out and that might help.

Soooooooo close.....I'm regularly getting within 3sec now. 1.02sec is the best so far. I was close enough on the last run, but clipped the SLK , I would have got away with it but the AI decided to lose it completely and spun back in front of me, so TWO 5sec penalties - aargh!!!
I'm getting the feeling this might well be within my grasp...finally.

Getting better ........... 0.025

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES......At Last!!!!!!!!!!!

-0.629. (not good enough for NTSC I know - don't care since I'm on PAL and it's good enough for that!!!)

Those of you who have seen my previous posts will know how much trouble I've had with this mission. What a relief to have finally completed it. Faith in my own ability has been restored!!

A big thanks to all who have offered advice.

I'll try to save a replay in case it helps anyone else (not one for purists - but hey, they all count). At least I can relax and try for a perfectly clean lap now.

Ok Last night I passed two cars, and I think that was just over 17.8XX sec behind.
So Im getting better each time. 👍

Way back when someone asked about a file attachment of a clean run at 34, so I'm trying to attach one that is reasonably clean. Maybe it'll work.

How many of you are trying to beat this mission using the gamepad? My DFP is currently out of commission, so I've gone back to gamepad play...

My best so far is + 28.7xx ... I hope its gonna get easier when I get my wheel back. I've gotten all the other missions done without much problem using the pad.

I've done it with the old DF and DS2 so don't fret if you can't get your DFP fixed. You don't have to wait for it.

I did mine with DS2, I can't afford the wheel. I have a USB Logitech wheel for my PC, and I heard there are attachments so it will work with PS2............anyone know if this is true?

I was in a good mood, so i decided to give m34 another whirl in search of a better time... now that i've had my DFP for a few weeks.
beat it 4 more times, but the best clean time i could manage was 9'11.488
(ntsc replay is attached; 100% clean, no ai touches, 2 wheels on track)

overcooked a few corners and had some slow-downs passing AI cars, so I'm pretty sure i left several seconds on the track.

It's amazing, now that the stress of beating it the first time is over, i actually had a ton of fun attacking it this morning. I probably won't be happy until I have a 9'08 :odd:
I'll have to take another whack at it some other day.

cheers.

Ok Last night my first run I got passed 3 cars about 13 sec behind so getting much better and im consistantly passing atleast 1 car 👍

All right, here we go. Please welcome new member of 99.8% club. I have just finished all other races and gave m34 first try.
Not very good. Finished dead last over one minute behind (NTSC) !! The car doesn't seem too bad but I guess it will get worse when I start pushing harder.
Wish me luck

Now your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to complete the mission without grass cutting or wall rides.

Just a note... To complete the mission on PAL in time enough to have won on the NTSC version you have to run 9'05.

or you could try and beat holl's time. :mischievous:

finally beat this.....using drift techniques through some grassy portions helped shave off 2-3 seconds...i hated waiting 2 minutes before every attempt so this was my revenge
