Beated mission 34 AGAIN!!! :D :D :D
It was quite easy this time... :) . Tryed about 20 minutes. I won by 6.2xx sec to the Gullwing.

It's possible to win for a biger margin: I made a trip thru a sand trap :dopey: ....

I will post a screenshot tomorrow and the t-times (it's night in Portugal and the picture would be a nice piece of crap).

The ones who haven't beat it, try and you will see that it's not impossible. 👍

Victory at last!!

I, too, consider myself pretty good at the 'ring, but this mission was the one obstacle I could not conquer. Anyhow, it is completed and the DFP can finally take a break.

Mr. Boy--in that final section on the long straight, you should be able to make up 13 or 14 seconds without any cutting. On my winning lap i had a 13.8 split time and still managed to win by .3. Anyhow, good luck!

Alex

P.S: I do this  to NTCS players that have beated m.34.

I've seen some hideous drives clear this mission. Anyone can do it. Keep smooth and stay fast. Keep your lines, braking zones and landings consistant and don't be too concerned with sector times. The brakes will not work consistantly from run to run. Same thing applies to cornering and landings. You have to be fortunate as well as skilled to clear this mission. This mission will be cleared only when the program allows you to clear it. Keep at it.

I'm fairly sure that - could I be arsed to do so, could clear this mission 10 times out of 10 tries...

Once it's completed it's a piece of cake. NTSC users with the backward countdown at intro...gotta be at around +54. sec. at Klostertal or forget it.
My best time: 9'12.670 NTSC vers.2

Woo-Hoo!

Last night I finally beat the NTSC version of Mission 34. It took me a couple of days to get the winning run in. I found that buying the car andpracticing in the arcade area helped. I found the key to beating this mission was trail braking. I would stay on the brakes deep into the turns (often to the apex). Using the brakes to rotate the car was critical, especially in the low speed 180 degree turns. I ended up beating the 300SL by 2 seconds. I did not do any wall riding or taking shortcuts off the track, however there were a couple of turns where I missed the apex and put the inside tires on the grass, but I don't think this saved me any time, since I blew the turns.

About 10 runs before that I had a pace that would have won, but at the end of the long straight on the turn you take flat out at 180mph, the SLK was sitting in the apex of the turn. I tried to go around on the outside, but flew off the track and slammed into the guardrail and came to a dead stop. That sucked big time.

What a great mission! I loved the challenge, but I also found the 123 second wait a bit silly. I think the Missions were a great addition to GT4, and of course the 'ring.

Just ease off, you have the PAL version (as I do) and you're using the DS2 (as I do). I even used the automatic gearbox when I completed this mission with TWO 5-second penalties. It's far from impossible. :)

I'm with you. I have the Pal version and use a DS2 in Auto mode. It was very frustrating but I also passed the mission with a major "off" on the grass. The hardest thing is to string a clean lap on this course. I have also just completed the 80 Gold licences using the above method. I personally found the S-12 Suzuka test in the Nissan was harder than Mission 34!!!

I have switched to manual since the licences and missions but I too got them all gold with automatic and yes, Mission 34 was a walk in the park when compared to S-12! In my opinion the key to passing this mission is to attack into the corners faster than it seems possible, the car is able to handle it and you win a great deal of time. :)

And how the heck did you do that!?
EDIT- I see you mean the first split on the long straight. That's definitely possible.

If I were in Japan, I'll already pass this mission like three times and finish this game!! I've got to a losing margin of 8.5, 8.7 (could been 6 secs, but I crashed stupidly with the 5th car) ann 9.3 secs, considering the 11 sec difference in the PAL version, that gives me a comfortable win. My low time is 9:22.106 (which I think is good). I believe that if I manage to do in one lap my best times all-around, I would only lose this mission by 2.5-3.0 secs. I don't know where I can gain another 3 secs in this unmerciful course.

P.S. 1: Do you pass this mission by using automatic transmission or mechanic? That is perhaps my trouble.

P.S. 2: Where I can find videos of this mission in the NTSC version and *.wmv mode. Can you give me tips of places where I can cut grass or wallride safely (I´m already cutting grass in the first sector, make a big grasscut before the third checkpoint, and wallride at the Karrousel).

I used manual transmission, but I don't know if there is an advantage or not. If you compare your split times with previous posts, you can see which section of the track to work on.

I found that buying the car and running in arcade mode was really helpful. Also running the course in a slower car with the same tire type - Sprorts Medium and no downforce really helps to learn the line without having to deal with the speed and instability of the SLR.

I haven't seen any NTSC videos, I did watch a PAL video and it was just disgusting how sloppy you can drive and still win ;)

You're right, I also watched Daan's video and it appeared that he won with ease.

I have seen a lot of split times, later on I can post my own split times, so everyone can compare them. I've seen that I need to pratice more in sectors 6-10. Also in sector 2 and 3 I'm a little behind.

The GT4 makers can save us a lot of torments, if the mission already starts with the cars well ahead of you, instead of waiting 123 seconds. They should think that in the next GT5.

one of the worst parts is waiting. ive probably spent a total of 5 hours waiting for the race to start :banghead:

what a waste of time 👎 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent 3 whole months on it!

I found a couple of shortcuts and still couldnt win. I eventually won with automatic transmittion! and i couldnt win with manual. (Probably because i concentrated too much on the RPM guage instead of what i was doing)

I tried to cut across the section at the end of the long straight, ran the 300sl into the wall and got a penalty but still won by a few seconds :)

I've been participating in an OLR Series...Nurburgring Race Series (NRS). I hadn't tried this Mission in a long long time. Had pretty much given up ever beating it. But tried it tonight and beat it...not clean or anywhere even close. Won by 0.216s. Used every shortcut (across grass, wall-riding the Karussell, etc). Driving in the NRS was definitely a plus.

I have been driving one-handed (one hand on the wheel, one hand on the shifter) basically because pf how my arms were getting twisted up on the hair-pins and how difficult it is to shift that way.

But for this mission I used AT and a two-handed driving technique.

Here's a site where you can find a NTSC replay
http://users.adelphia.net/~mickey4me/

Mr.Pot's replay should help you.

My PAL time is good enough to win with NTSC, but it wouldn't help you as much because the places where you overtake cars are different.

Very Nice driving Mick777 (clap clap clap!!) :0]
Nailing a 9:05 for Mission 34 is absolutely fantastic to say the least.
I studied both Mick777 and Mr. Pot's driving styles and in real life racing, Mick's is the most realistic. They both worked for the mission,, however,, Mr. Pots gear changes from 3rd to 2nd to slow it down from 125mph or so,, unfortunately would have sent the Benz engine to blown up heaven. Personally, (because I'm a gearhead at heart) I'm going to attemp emulating Micks approach.
That dosen't take anything away from Mr. Pots achieving Mission 34 success, because in my book - anyone who has put "Mission Complete" across this mission has accomplished the "almost" impossible. Cudos to those of you who have got it dun !! (2 thumbs UP !!)

Thank you.

My website has a whole heap of replays. There's quite a few missions in there so if you're after a replay for another mission check it out.

:) Your most Welcome bud,, and Thank You VERY MUCH for the link to your photo site. 👍 👍
The quality is a little better than the other site fer sure.

:sly: You beat that rascal with a "D" pad didn't you ??

For some reason my pad never has worked well with GT4 but the DF wheel works awsome. However,, the same wheel didn't work so good for GT3 tho and I got fairly proficient with the pad for that game. Go figure :dopey:

So far I've only managed to barely catch the #5 car just after the final turn,, but I'm a persistant 'ol bird and I know one of these days I'll get that "Mission Clear" on this one too.
By for now,, and Thanks again pard 👍

Wooohooo go dude. Keep at it.

Yes i did use the DS2 controller. I don't have the money to buy a DFP. I'd love to have one.

YES! I've finally passed mission 34! :dopey: :) 👍
During my winning run, I lost a bit too much time in the "technical" section of the 'ring. I cut the penultimate corner, and just edged out the 300sl by 0.18 seconds. Brilliant!
Now I just have that stupid sarthe enduro left to finish and that black FGT will be mine! :D

The penalties are ridiculous

I cant beleive i got a penalty when the 300sl turned into me so i lost the race 👎

those ai cars are so clumsy

lthiele
what's the black FGT?

Formula Gran Turismo. Essentially the F1 car of Gran Turismo- it has the most downforce of all cars in the game and is one of the lightest cars in the game.

Many colors can be won from the Nurburgring 24h.

You get the black one when you get 100% completion of the game.
