Well, some time ago I tried to pass the mission nearly 20 times, being 3rd, 2nd... I got tired of it and I quited... but 2 months after I got into it again... I beated it at the 2nd try :D With a time of 9'12.282, with relative ease, the only I needed was a bit more of exprerience to pass it...

Now I'm watching at the replay and I'm amazing myself xDDD

My times were:
+1,42.394
+1,33.323
+1,25.829
+1,13.498
+1,01,204 (Got 5th)
+0,50.202
+0,35.965 (Got 4th)
+0,27.093
+0,21.464 (Got 3rd)
+0,10.235 (Got 2nd)
+0,01.786 (Got 1st)
-0,05.127

I think I'd try this mission again....

If you are running down the stretch in 3rd place, but you know you don't have any hope of even catching the 1st place car, just barrel down to the end withou hardly turning and don't brake at all. Try to position you car when leaving the straight road so that you will go straight as possible over the curvy section. Chances are your car will pinball all over the place, but if you do it enough, you can get it straight enough to rocket to the end and knock the expletive out of the first place car. Of course you will get a 5 second penalty for this, but you will have sent the other car into orbit. All you have to worry about is getting in front of the other car coming behind and hog the road.

Like I said, the chances are slim, but if you know you aren't going to win anyhow, you might as well try this method. Eventually you will get a lucky and drive through the end and get knocked back in the right place. Its cheating, but once you got it done, you can beat the 'nurb the right way afterwards with no stress. :sly:

i just keep trying and trying. i feel like im gonna slide off each corner but dont let up.,,my best time was 3.6 sec. off and .........well just read my sig. 🤬

I think I'd try this mission again....
what was your 1st cp time. it should me iin the 1,50.xx's

I ran the Nurburgring 4 hour endurance yesterday as practice for this mission. I'm getting closer to beating that 300SL and posted my best time ever, coming in second place by 1.993 seconds. So close! Is the ASM turned off, but TCS on in this mission? I can't quite simulate the understeer outside of the mission when practicing.

I finally did it!!! I read all the way throught to the end of this thread :)
The sheer number of post here shows how hard this mission is.
I think the main problem is that it is so hard to find a car that handles like the McLarren does in this mission. I 've made plenty of test runs in the SLR, with different sets of tires and setups but I cant really imitate the handling. So the only way I can really practice is by doing the mission itself. That means waiting for 2 minutes, flying of in the second corner and getting a penalty and wait another 2 minutes before I can try again.
Anyway, I've (re)done all licence tests which take place on the Nurnbergring. Got Gold on A-7, A-14, A-16(must have tried that one about 1000 times as well) and IB-2; silver on IA-13, IA-15 ( F:censored: ing Pacecar!) and S-16.
I think the licence tests really learn you a lot. Especially A-16, taking place in the "technical" section and IA-13 can learn you a great deal about braking points and racing lines. If you havent had much practice on the Nurb, you might want to try there.
The closest I've come so far is about 9s. off (PAL) and I loose most of my time in the section after the end of A-16 untill the start of the long straight.
I'm gonna keep trying to find a setup that matches the SLR in this mission cause waiting for 2 minutes every time is just too timeconsuming. Maybe I'll try the SLR in arcade mode with Hard Sports tyres.

I found out why the mission car feels so different...
if you want to get the same handling; you have to be in a race, with the default arcade mode car, with asm and tcs on.
the problem is, from my race vs practice experiences, ALL cars feel different in a race vs practice.
My hypothesis is that when you toss in tire wear + AI logic (even though they are stupid they still eat processor time) + 5 more cars to do physics for, the ps2 doesn't have the horsepower.
So I'm willing to bet the sample rate for the physics engine is turned down in race conditions by a few samples per second. Even if its a very minor ammount, it still makes a huge difference in situations like this; where you have a car that has a pornographic ammount of horspower and very limited grip.
example: if you're the only one on the track and its doing 100 more samples per second, when you hit the edge of adhision, the car starts to slide, you lift and correct, the car bites and you go round the corner.
If the sample rate is reduced, the gap between when the car would stop sliding and when the engine actually notices and returns grip is wider.
this is probably not really noticeable in a slower car or on racing tires, because the car isn't going to have as much of a grip issue, and not going nearly as fast.
an easy number to work with is 120mph.
@ 120, you go 176ft. every second (if the brake deceleration is calculated less per second you can easily see how a lower sample rate would make the brake distances longer in a hurry)
getting back to grip, in .01 seconds you've gone almost two feet, thats a pretty significant ammount of track to slush accross when you're tring to clip an apex and exit with as much speed as possible, on a thin bumpy track like the ring.
throw in the TCS and ASM also trying to juggle the grip, eating more computing power, and having their corrections delayed etc... recovery times from bumps are slowed, suspension response... well, you can see where the ramble is going.
I think gt4's physics are slightly dialed back in race conditions, which makes delecate situations, extremely erratic and much more difficult than practice.
the SLR is not a bad car, if you take the training wheels off and head to the ring on default S2 rubber, it will easily eat almost any other street car in the game. (i havn't tested the pagani yet, but i also havn't found another car that rolls off the production line and can effortlessly crank out 6'50s all day)

I still havent completed it but I've gotten a lot closer. The closest I got now is about - 2s and I can get to -3s pretty consistantly.
I improved a huge amount by practicing with the SLR in arcade mode with hard sports tires and ASM and TCS both turned off. This makes the car slightly harder to handle than in the mission. So when you get to the mission the car will actually feel like it handle ok.
I'm guessing it's still gonna cost me some time before I complete this mission. I still need some practice on that last section, just before the long straight. But I don't mind. Mission 34 is supposed to be like the crowning achievement for every GT4 player, so if I would be able to do it in just a few tries I'd probably be disappointed.

I tried Mission 34 numerous times today. Here are some of the checkpoint time gaps between me and the lead car during my best attempt:
1'50.2 Quiddelbacher-Hohe
1'41.6 After Aremberg
1'34.0 After Fuchshrore
1'21.5 Before Ex-Muhle
1'09.0 After Bergwerk
58.03 Before Karussel
44.5 After Hohe-Acht
35.78 Before Pflanzgarten
29.93 After Pflanzgarten
20.39 Start of long straight
11.96 End of long straight
5.6 Finish
This is for the American version of Mission 34. Sooner or later, I will accomplish this mission!

I noticed you're defenately losing time between Aremburg and Fuchshore. If you work on that, you'll be able to get it. You're off by 2 to 3 seconds in that section.

there are some big chunks of time he can get from a couple of places...
here's a comparison:

Code:
you	me gap
1'50.2	1'49.815	0.385
1'41.6	1'40.297	1.303
1'34.0	1'32.431	1.569
1'21.5	1'19.448	2.052
1'09.0	1'06.507	2.493
58.03	55.066 2.964
44.5	40.078 4.422
35.78	31.097 4.683
29.93	24.437 5.493
20.39	12.632 7.758
11.96	4.213 7.747
5.6	-2.105 7.705

Mr. Boy:
you lose a full second in sector 2, that seems to be a major problem area.
everything else, is a couple tenths here and there... until sector 7
where you lose another 1.5 seconds.. which is huge... but thats probably where you're passing the 600, so something could have happend there, if not.. thats another definate area you can gain alot of time in.

but the big chunk is the 3.1 you lose from T8 @ Eschbach to Döttinger Höhe Straight @ T10

if you know of any problems in these areas, feel free to ask for tips.
also the .max replay of my 9'11 is here

keep at it... you're pretty close 👍

Hey all, have been misguided lately, but eventually got back to gt4 the finest of the greatest series of games, by the way and started doing the missions this week. Am currently at about 56% complete and managed to go through all the missions up to 34 in one sitting. Have now tried this seemingly famed mission and boy is it irritating, i like the driving bit its just the waiting!!!

Well anyways my best has been 0.3!!!! of a second off but that included one 5sec penalty so hopefully( fingers crossed) will get it tonight!

Have been watching the videos and they seem very smooth my plan with the last few attempts has been to get up over the kerbs, F1 style and use them to drag the car around, main issue has been the double apex left hander a rew corners away from the karussel(spelling?) can anyone suggest a good corner entry speed as balancing the brakes to get the weight over the front, without locking, has proved to be slightly difficult in this section for me, thought lately that approach has led to improved grip speed and tyre conservation, its always nice to harness a new skill!!

Any help would be much appreciated and as this is my first post since prob gt2/gt3 a spec days hello to all from Northern Ireland!!

I still can't believe I really did it!!!

I never thought I could so I never really tried it. After the Nordschleife became more and more interesting to me I tested a lot of cars trying to achieve good lap times for comparison I suddenly had the idea to give it a try. All that practice lead me to success! It's the knowledge of how to fly through the blind corners that made the difference (almost all important corners are blind!).

Well, I have to admit that I cut at Adenauer Forst... and had a collision with the 300SL in the final corner.
By the way: I have PAL and used the Dual Shock 1 (from PS1!!!).

Happy practicing!

Hey all am glad to say it is now complete beat the 300SL by 3.872 seconds! no sauber tho :(

what were you expecting?
the prize car for the 30's is the Nissan R89C

I downloaded the replay, but it won't work. What is .max and how do I get it to play?

its a file for the AR Max / max drive
if you have one, you can transfer playstation save data from pc to mem-card and vice versa.
the .max file is the gt4 replay data, you use the AR max to transfer it to your memory card and then watch it in replay theatre like any other replay.
