Some dude knows for sure what's going to happen with MGS4 (so he claims, and the others don't disagree), but can't say for fear of 'blowing something' and a fear of a lawsuit. But, he hints at what happened with the past MGS titles. They were exclusive, for one year, then came out on either XBOX or Nintendo.

This guy hints that both are going to happen. He said, several times, "November 2008 is going to be and exciting time for XBox360 owners." Also, it would take a major effort to make MGS4 on the Wii, so he doesn't expect that to happen. Maybe something like Twin Snakes, or something.

He was also picking on PS3 fanboys who whine how they would HATE to see MGS4 come out on the 360. He then points out what Ryan Payton and Kojima said about sticking up for the XBox360, and how they would love to do a game for Nintendo, or bring MGS4 to the XBox360 etc. and suggested that these were hints at what Konami are planning on doing. Then, he points out valid reasons why the MGS franchise needs to go multi-platform.

So, basically, he says what we're all thinking. MGS4 is being designed and made for the PS3. Once released, it will come out for the XBox360 a year later with new or different content; just like MGS2: Sons Of Liberty.

He loses even more credibility by using one of the oldest and lamest excuses in the book for disguising pure speculation for some kind of "insider info". :lol:

Plenty of time for everyone to forget he ever made such claims, or for a miracle to happen, making his speculation appear like he actually knew something everyone else didn't know... maybe he is a comedian and this is a prank? ;)



Also, it would take a major effort to make MGS4 on the Wii, so he doesn't expect that to happen. Maybe something like Twin Snakes, or something.

Uh... and editing 25GB of data or more down to 7GB isn't a major effort in his mind? (OK clearly he is a comedian... or really bad at math) ;)

It wont be a small effort either if this non-linear game is released on four or more DVDs, nor if it requires you to have a HDD and spend a few hours downloading it.

Except the only thing Kojima actually said regarding the X360 was, "I do have strong interest in creating something for the Xbox 360." - and then to rub salt into the wounds of those wanting MGS4 for X360, he makes it clear that MGS4 is only coming out on PS3. But at least he ended that by also saying "so far", which is a wise choice of words as it leaves the door open to future possibilities.

However, Kojima also made it VERY clear that MGS4 was going to be huge, and that they already are needing more than 22GB of disc space, and that PS3 games will soon even use 50 GB.

Now it doesn't take a math genius to figure out that you are going to lose a lot by trimming a game from 50GB down to 7GB, and as has been discussed countless times already, there is very little indication that anyone will be releasing 7 disc games for the X360, and considering how few X360's have HDD's with an extra 50GB of space to spare, or the time and patience to try and download it and erase it every time you want to play the game and then play another large game off the HDD, that option is pretty much useless.



Once released, it will come out for the XBox360 a year later with new or different content; just like MGS2: Sons Of Liberty.

On the other hand, if Microsoft is working on the next Xbox that has support for games on HD-DVD or Blu-ray, and it is released by the end of 2008, then they could quite possibly get the same edition as the PS3.

Microsoft killed the Xbox in less than four years, and by November 2008, the X360 will be three years old... so it isn't completely out of the realm of possibilities, especially with the X360 missing such a key ingredient to longevity.

Well, it's what I got from it. I might have missed some details. I was half asleep while listening.

Again, I have no idea who this guy was, and why he would know so much. It sounds like he talks with Ryan Payton a lot, or knows him pretty well.

Again, he really doesn't say much that we already don't know. And, comes to same conclusions we all, or most of us, feel. MGS4 is exclusively made and released for the PS3, and then a special version will come out a year later for the 360. That only makes logical sense.

Microsoft isn't stupid enough to kill off the 360 after 3 years. Everyone would hate them, and the X720 would probably be DOA and bomb. Besides, they wouldn't have enough reason to. It'll probably still be selling strong. 360 games in fall '08 like Call of Duty 5, Need for Speed 12, and the next Gears of War will probably not need HD-DVD or Blu-ray. With games like the first two I mentioned, they'll most likely still be on a single disc, although it'd push the limits. The next GoW would probably use a second disc. Now, what about games like the next GTA and MGS4? Well, I see three options:
  • Put the game on a hard drive and ship it that way.
  • Use 5-6 DVDs.
  • Use the HD-DVD add-on for games.
1 and 2 won't happen because of feasibility issues. 3 however? It probably will. By fall '08, HD-DVD will probably have lost, not to mention next-gen players' prices would've dropped like rocks, so it wouldn't seem all that impossible to price the add-on at <$50, and let games use it. And have it built-in on new 360s. Yes, it'd separate the userbase and piss off users, but they've been doing that sort of stuff since Day 1 and it'd be a far better solution than introducing the X720.

...Then again, we're talking about Microsoft here. The add-on could just as easily be $100+, and we'd be angry all the same.
 
Excellent post Duck, all very good points worthy of consideration.

As for the current HD-DVD add on, it isn't capable of reading game data, and would require additional hardware, so even if MS ever came out out with a firmware update, it wouldn't help. However, presumably they could come out with a new HD-DVD add-on player that would be able to read games off HD-DVD ROMs.

Where and when did you read Konami was coming to E3?

Last week's episode of the Ryan Report, Ryan said, "We're undecided." This week's episode ain't out yet.

So, the new trailer will be in English with English subtitles, it will be shown in HD, so I hope the download will also be in HD and will be at E3. Also, a "playable presentation of a popular game" will be at the party on the 24.

I just watched the new trailer. Awesome stuff. Worldwide release on the same day. Great! The last MGS game, ever. SUCKS! I wanted more! I can handle the delay, so long it's spent to good use.

Well, I finished watching the trailer from the web link I gave earlier. I finished watching the movie trailer aired on G4. And right now, I'm about to watch it in HD from the PSN. It's up, folks!

Wow! Even more unbelievable in HD! About time! I felt there was too much motion blur. What did you think? It was nice to see Hideo included micturating, yet again. I heard the name 'Johnathan' from Meryl when the crap started to fly. And I mean that literally. Those PMC soldiers were not only pissing, but crapping in their pants, too. Oh that wacky Kojima. But, who could Johnathan be? I say it's Raiden. He had bright blond hair under that mask.

Gonna go watch it again. Bye.
 
Watched the MGS4 vid too. First time in English? Snake sounds particularly dessicated. And the choreographed scene with Vamp (with scar on forehead) and Raiden was pretty cool.
You can see some limitations in the graphics. Liquid Ocelots ears were a bit odd and Meryls hair seemed somewhat fixed (too much hairspray) but you can't really knock it. I think it's just that there are a few games now that I like the look of, not just MGS4.
Anyway, simultaneous launch worldwide early 2008. Hmm..March perhaps?
 
Would someone please update me on the whole story going on in MGS4?

And why these giant robots sound like cows kicking people? Very confused. It's been a long time since I played a MGS game. :indiff:

I actually had a hair brained idea that possibly it's another clone of snake (like liquid, with blonde hair). Then possibly later in the game, the clone dye's his hair brown, which would be the young snake?`

Probably an obvious an answer but I barely even recognize who they are.

With Kojima, anything is possible. It could even be Raiden before he became a cyborg. I doubt that, though. I don't think he would like calling Meryl "commander" like this character does in the latest video. He also has a keyboard on one of his wrists, and a large pack on his back. Possibly and super computer of some kind? Oh, and many people think he's the one called 'Johnathan' but that was the mohawk guy he was talking at.

I remember the past trailer where we see this same character at the end with blond hair sticking out from a octocam mask. And when he removes the mask, he has dark hair and a young Snake face. I still think that's a joke. But, hey, it's Kojima.

1. PMCs (Private Military Companies) are the global economy, passing oil as the global economy. Countries would collapse if the 'war machine' was stopped, but one PMC is getting out of control and everybody is afraid to stop it of fear destroying the global economy. Snake, Colonel, FOXHOUND under the command of Meryl, Raiden and Otacon are going to put a stop to the biggest PMC under control of Outer Heaven which is controlled by Revolver Ocelot/Liquid Snake 'Liqelot.' Or, somebody else. :sly:

Of course, there's a 'method,' 'message' or 'central thyme' to this game. Genes for MGS, Memes for MGS2 and Scenes for MGS4. To further understand this, you need to read up on MGS series at Wikipedia.

2. They're called Gekkou. They are mini-Metal Gear machines. Typical bi-pedal Japanese mech robot machines under control of Outer Heaven. They have half mechanical half real flesh legs. They make moo sounds recorded from real cows and they use this sound to intimidate the ones they attack. They also make cicada hissing sounds just before appearing. It's all Kojima's idea to use sound to cause fear, panic and control, a form of psychological warfare used on the battlefield. Awesome stuff.

3. We don't know. Could be a young Snake clone like JR suggests, or could be a new character with a mask of a young Snake, or could be nobody at all.

4. It's Vamp, a character from MGS2 who was 'killed' but came back to life at the end of MGS2. (He's seen in a cab on the streets of NY at the very end of the game when Raiden, Rose and Snake are walking down a street.) He's fighting the 'new' cyborg Raiden. It's not clear how Raiden became a cyborg. But, my theory is, that new character could be Raiden who gets severely injured while trying to stop Liqelot. He then becomes a cyborg with only his head and spine, leaving the rest of his body up to the duties of a cyborg. That's how he can stab himself with the cherry-hot katana and not die and why he said, "I just dont' fear death." He cannot die like a typical human. They are fighting because one, Vamp, is a 'Dead Cell' member on the side of Liqelot and the other, Raiden, is on the side of Solid Snake.

Yeah, that definately clears things up. So I take it Vamp is also something like Raiden since he is uninjured by the katana as well.

Vamp is short for Vampire, of sorts. He's the walking dead. He cannot be killed. Well, he can, there are ways, but you notice the scar on his forehead? Raiden (you) did that to him in MGS2. He came back to life.

Personally, I don't think he was 'uninjured' by the katana. I think he can really be effected by it. However, he wont die, unless Raided cuts his head off and keeps it. Then, Vamp cannot come back to life. We'll have to wait and see if that happens.

Raiden can also be killed. His head and his spine are his, and everything else is cyborg. Cyborg parts can be replaced when damaged. His head, obviously, cannot.
 
Ok ok... wait. I was watching the E3 coverage on G4 tv and there was this MGS4 trailer. About 3:41 in it shows someone other than snake. WTF is this!? If this is what will be in this game I might have to entertain getting it. It's like a part in Appleseed and I loved that stuff! :drool:

 
I've been waiting for a video clip that was promised for the following below, but it looks like that's not going to happen for a while. So, here are the details to MGS4 demo, that might be available to us on the 24th (MGS anniversary party).



TOKYO--At Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Premiere 2007 press conference in the massive Roppongi Hills complex today, most in attendance were expecting to see reruns of trailers shown at the E3 Media and Business Summit. So they were taken by surprise during Konami's presentation, when director Hideo Kojima gave the first-ever Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots gameplay demonstration.

The demo, which lasted a full 20 minutes, began in the same unnamed Middle Eastern locale as previous MGS4 game trailers. Snake started out on the second floor of a ruined building. Looking down, he saw tons of rubble from the remnants of buildings obliterated by warfare. The landscape was particularly detailed, with walls broken into various shapes and surrounding buildings uniquely damaged. When Snake zoomed in on the walls using a scope named Solid Eye (after the 3D glasses from Metal Gear Acid 2), they showed a high level of detail with little or no pixelation up close.

While previous installments in the MGS series had Snake infiltrating areas that were guarded by a single superpower or army, the situation is vastly different in MGS4. The demo shows two different factions--professional PMC (Private Military Company) mercenaries, and civilian guerrillas, who were losing because they were less experienced. The demo started out quietly, with both sides just patrolling. By the end, though, there were explosions all over the place.

During the demo, Kojima had Snake side with the civilian army to help take out the PMC soldiers. Given that the PMC soldiers were wearing beige camouflage, it was difficult to spot them in the sandy fields and grayish walls. Kojima had Snake switch to thermal goggles to detect them, and then return to the normal scope to zoom in.

Hopping down the building from where Snake started, the aged soldier approached a set of familiar bronze statues last seen in the Tokyo Game Show trailer. Here, Kojima went to the menu screen and selected the active camouflage option, where players can access disguises for Snake's face and body. Snake normally wears an all-purpose "Octo-Cam" camouflage suit, which lets him blend into his surroundings. However, apparently there are other selectable camouflage patterns in the game, one of which is called the "Statue-Cam." Kojima selected the Statue-Cam and an appropriate face mask, and--voila!--Snake's camouflage suit displayed a bronze finish. The PMC soldiers then walked by, mistaking the grizzled commando for a statue.

Kojima then showed off how the Octo-Cam camouflage will help Snake blend into his surroundings--semiautomatically. Whenever Snake performs an action, like hugging a wall or hitting the floor, the suit automatically changes its pattern to match that of the surface Snake is touching. Kojima demonstrated this action by having Snake evade a PMC soldier by lying in wait on the ground and blending in with the tiles of a nearby building. Snake then stood up and dashed to the shadows by a wall, waiting for the soldier to walk past. Then, he took the soldier from behind by using close-quarter combat, which made the soldier drop his gun--a new element in MGS4. Snake finally wrestled the soldier down, choking him until he was knocked out.

Kojima revealed that Snake can take his enemy's weapons in MGS4, and CQC isn't the only way to get them--holdups can also be effective. When Snake put a gun against an unaware soldier, the grunt raised both of his hands in the air, dropping his weapon to the ground and shivering. The holdup in MGS4 looks a lot more realistic than in the previous games. While keeping his gun pointed at the enemy, Snake used his other hand to frisk for items all over the soldier's body. He also seems to have gained a new move that involves delivering a death grip to an enemy's crotch, rendering that person unconscious in an instant.

After taking out two soldiers (one through CQC and the other by holdup and grabbing his nether regions), Snake spotted a huge hole in the wall that was big enough for him to fit though. However, he then noticed PMC soldiers in other abandoned buildings that could easily spot Snake and shoot him down. Kojima had Snake switch to his Mosin Nagant stun rifle to take them out. This was done by way of the same sniper view the rifle had in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Snake then made his way down the building onto the ground and took out another PMC soldier, this time using a stun knife that can discharge electricity. Kojima showed how the knife can be used to just zap the enemy and knock them unconscious, though it can also be used for fatal slashing as well.

Seeing that yet another PMC soldier was nearby, Kojima showed off Snake's new prop--the oil barrel. The oil barrel in MGS4 has as much a camouflage effect as the series' traditional cardboard box, except it's a bit more resistant to bullet shots because it's made of metal. Unfortunately, it didn't seem as stealthy, because we heard Snake's knees banging into it as he walked. Kojima showed that the barrel could also be an effective weapon when Snake rolls on the ground inside it, attacking any soldiers in his path. Naturally, though, Snake was dizzy once he got back up, and we saw him throwing up.

Kojima went on to confirm that gamers would be able to play through the whole game in a first-person view, and showed how the Sixaxis' motion-sensing can be used to duck and peek around corners.

Snake then went into a nearby building and talked to his friend Otacon via his Metal Gear MKII robot, re-creating part of the first MGS4 trailer. Eventually a battle between PMC and guerrilla forces erupted outdoors. The PMC soldiers were obviously getting the upper hand, as they had more firepower and cutting-edge technology on their side, including flying biomechanical creatures that would drop bombs.

To help fight off one of the PMC soldiers, Kojima showed Snake's new best friend, the Metal Gear MKII. By selecting MKII from the item inventory, the player can take control of it and move around in either first- or third-person view. (Snake is seen crouching on the ground with his hands on the MKII's remote controller--which is an exact replica of a Sixaxis gamepad.) And while the stealthy MKII may seem small and harmless, it can knock out enemies with a powerful knock of electricity.

Turning back to Snake, Kojima showed that the protagonist can throw grenades backward like in the previous trailer. The grenade's trajectory is shown onscreen, Gears of War-style, as Snake is preparing to throw his grenade.

As the demo neared its end, Kojima showed off some more weapons that can be used in Guns of the Patriots. He used an RPG-7 to explode a tank, an AK-102 rifle to shoot some enemies on the roof, and a P90 to take out remaining soldiers on the ground.

Kojima pointed out that while he had been attacking PMC soldiers and helping out the civilian guerrillas in the demo, it's really up to the player to decide which side to be on--or to not side with either of them.

Overall, Guns of the Patriots defaults to the same kind of third-person view as previous MGS installments. The basic interface has been kept intact as well, with the item itinerary on the bottom left side of the screen and the weapons itinerary on the bottom right.

One addition to the heads-up display that wasn't in previous installments was a semitransparent, illustrated icon on the bottom of the screen that appeared whenever Snake was near an object that he could interact with, such as a wall, an unconscious enemy, or a ledge. Another such object was a dumpster in an alley, which Snake hid in until enemy soldiers cleared out. But since it's full of garbage, Kojima noted that Snake would start to smell if he stayed inside the dumpster too long, making himself more obvious to enemies. As he came out of hiding, Snake was surrounded by a swarm of buzzing flies, though shaking the Sixaxis controller seemed to swat them away.

Look at GTHD. Came out December 23. When's GT5P coming out? About nine months later.

Knowing Kazunori Yamauchi and Hideo Kojima like I do, I know both are perfectionists and both rely heavily on fan feedback and opinion. That's the main reason for the Prologue games, if you ask me.

Releasing a MGS4 demo now would give Hideo Kojima enough time to make some changes before the final version. Plus, Hideo has provided demos for the last two big MGS series games. He did for MGS2 and MGS3.
