NkPro has good physics no doubt but not superior in any way,

Osella is awsome but the old muscle car is way to easy to control.

all in all imo they are just as good with both having their ups and downs.

ir provides the best package though but that could be a manpower/money issue.

Wow bigbazz you don't hold back!

Depressing thing is even after you buy some tracks they switch them out the following season like one would expect. However, some of the tracks I purchased has been dropped from Skippy season (New Hampshire) for season 4 I just noticed and I really adore that map. However, it was just that one map though that a promo code would easily cover. I'm more disappointed my favorite track got booted for that new Oulton Park map. I admit I can't wait to drive on that track though

Problem with console racing games they suffer from lots of wreckers due to the lack of online organization. So you are pretty much forced into an online league if you want to have good clean racing. At least in GT5 you can have a Host that can remain dedicated by kicking out fools that is determined to ruin everyone's fun. GT5 is such an amazing console racing game but one most consider the average console game is nothing like GT5. Forza series (3 and 4) for instance has no online host architecture. But even GT5 lacks dedicated servers.... Only 16 players is not realistic. Granted in some of these IndyCar races I have seen only that many and half the field wrecks before Lap 13. But most racing series have much more then 16 competitors.

Also, don't get me wrong I consider GT5 an amazing 'driving' sim with good enough physics to get by the masses (like myself). However it is not a racing simulator in anyway. It is missing pace cars, cautions, etc. In Forza 4 I know they try to get a player to portray the role of the pace car (maybe in GT5 too). I guess that can work.... But you are still missing controlling your car in the pits, etc. This makes it so far away from being a 'racing' sim it is not funny.

Another big advantage iRacing has over console titles though is the mere fact it is on the PC. There is all sorts of wonderful gadgets we can use on the PC. For instance there is no way I could use these Clubsports with my racing wheel. Although hopefully one of these days I can get one of those new Fanatec wheels so I can try out my brakes on the consoles 👍

iRacing is so great for the money and very much unmatched. No other game is even remotely supported by so many racing professionals. And it is so awesome they use our 'names from our credit card'. This way if you run into a pro racer you'll most likely know it. I thought Forza 4 would have laser scanned tracks but it still seems iRacing is unchallenged here. C.A.R.S. says it will have some however so we will have to see.

Like as pointed earlier. iRacing just has the $$ to make you feel apart of something real. Anyway i still have not purchased nkPro because I was worried no one plays online (funny about how that works). But I know rFactor is amazing so there are much cheaper alternatives. But for racing online this is king because I can show up when I want to race and everything I do is tracked online and I can easily look up everyone else's stats. Just so many amazing features that no other game can offer.

I guess the prices are stiff if you are a good racer. But most of us are truthfully not super talented. I am sure I will hover around Class D / Rookie for awhile. Prices are a little bit better at that level since it's mixed with free content. And these tracks are so full of awesome it is worth some money for real

I should also add even though the console titles have many more cars one has to wonder how detailed the behavior is. I really don't want someone guessing. I'd much rather have a much shorter list where I know the dev is pouring out their heart to make it as real as they can get it. But more importantly, I don't know of any console game that has their sheer number of realistic tracks. When I watch a race on TV like watkins Glen it is so awesome to hop right on iRacing and do that same track with the Riley Prototype.

Even though iRacing has small number of cars it is indeed a shock to the console mindset (like myself at 1st). One can eventually appreciate they picked many cars that do not exist anywhere else which gives this sim it's own unique soul. Granted, rFactor has a Riley prototype mod but it did not behave like the real thing does in my eyes in comparison to TV. But I admit I am by no means a physics expert

Netkar physics and the driving experience is good, but iRacing is a much more complete package. And of course, it is all about the organized online racing AGAINST OTHER PEOPLE. People complain about netcode issues with iRacing, but people are racing from all over the world and nobody does it better. Where have you raced with 60 other PEOPLE on the grid at once?

Back to the organized racing, Pro Series schedule in the F1 car is below, starting next week. Every week, over 50 guys will try to qualify for grids of 30 cars. Some of the races will be broadcast live (with replays available after) and professional quality news articles posted every week. Cash prizes for the top finishers. Some great talent battling it out, all of whom had to compete just to get a Pro license. I think it is fantastic.

You don't get this in GT5 or NkP.

At first the thing that hooked me on iRacing was the physics - how a car reacts to a kerb or really getting a sense of weight transfer. how it feels to lift off in a corner etc. Add to that the difference between different cars, each one's personality really sets it apart from GT5.

In GT5 there are the 1000+ cars but between them there isn't as much of a difference than between any of the three cars (MX5, Legends, Lotus 79) I drive in iRacing (so far).

I also find that iRacing is making me a better GT5 driver. While GT5 does not seem to help me very much in iRacing. GT5 is so forgiving and numb to mistakes that would take you off the track in iRacing.

Now that I have spent some time actually racing it kind of hit me the other day, I'm in a real racing series. Racing in my GT5 league is great fun and a nice social event. It has some of what iRacing has but it is limited in scope.

I cant wait to race at Spa tonight. I should be in the 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 races.

Hm, wonder if I should pony up for Spa... I'm having quite a time adjusting to the street stock races this week. I did some practice sessions but I did not hit my goal times (at least 0.5s behind the leader) :banghead:

I'm about to buy six tracks for Season 4, including Spa, and I'd love to join in the fun with the MX-5 but the Star Mazda calendar is holding me back. The original PDF lists Suzuka for week 7, but on the thread there's an edit saying that week 7 was a typo and it will actually be Oulton Park.

But the thing is week 8 has the Centripetal Circuit listed. That can't be right, can it? So I'm thinking Oulton Park is actually happening on week 8 and Suzuka is indeed on week 7. But I need a clarification on this before I can purchase the tracks.

could be oulton on week 7 and suzuka on week 8, either way, you get one awsome track and the other, the best drivers track in the world.

Ah, no problem by me about the week each one will be used, I just wanted to be sure both will actually be used.

I´m pretty sure they will,

News: "We just wrapped up our weekly engineering meeting and we have made the decision that we have one last item that we want to get into our next release but it will not be finished until next week. With the first pro series race taking place on Tuesday night we will not release the build until Wednesday at the earliest but it will be out by the end of the week.

A quick update on the new tire model which is improved over our August release.

Legends, MX-5 Cup car and Roadster, SRF, Street Stock and Late Model will all be on the new tire model. The Skip Barber car, 3 NASCAR vehicles, HPD and Ford GT will be updated to the current iteration of the new tire model. All of the cars being released on the new tire model have also been tweaked in other areas to adapt them to the new model. We have also made a lot of progress on the other vehicles but these are the vehicles we have been focused on and are most comfortable with right now.

Obviously there is much more coming in the next release some of which can be seen in the current episode of iRacingTV. We will plan to post the full release notes next week.

Steve"

Thanks for posting that.

I am so interested to see how the MX5 will be since I know that car by far the best. I can't wait to find out what all the complaining is about :dopey:

How will they affect current records if the new tyre model is slower? Ie Jan Coomans 58.4xx on lime rock in the mx5 otm, just say it's only possible for a 58.6xx with the NTM?
Would they clear the records and make everyone start fresh or would they maintain these old unobtainable records?

I believe the Skippy times are still there.

Otherwise you would have clean records for several seasons etc.
Best is to always look for the season you are in to know where you stack up as it´s the same for everyone, aliens included.

They could keep the old records but call them the old records and have a list of the new records beside it?

Can't believe I'm missing out on the week 13 fun thank's to my pedals taking a crap on me! anyone have a Fanatec loadcell for sale?

Anyone do a comparison of the new GT5 Spa to iRacing Spa?

I've only run a handful of laps in the Lotus 79 on it and now a few in the new Challenger tc on GT5. I'm not sure that is a fair comparison, but honestly there wasn't any comparison. iRacing completely kills it.

I know where you're coming from; my GPU has gone pop in my gaming PC :yuck:

Haha I can't really race either, internets capped. Just going to do test runs on the first circuit of the few series I plan to run.

It's good for me though, have exams and being capped means I won't spend multiple hours just sitting there racing.

Cool! I was able to compare the Laguna Seca track and Suzuka track in iRacing and GT5 after joining iRacing this summer. The iRacing track seems to have a much better representation level on elevation changes. Now when I go back to the GT5 tracks they all seem so flat! (imho)

The iRacing crew had some bureaucratic problems with the customs over here the first time they came to scan Interlagos, so it never happened, but a staff member said they still haven't given up on the track and they'll try to scan it next year. :)

I would call it "correct" instead of better as it´s basically a carbon copy of the real thing. :)

I was not even thinking of it on that level. I was just thinking on the "how much fun is it to race on this?" level. But I am sure you are right, iRacing obviously puts a lot of time/pride into creating tracks.

I'd also agree the perception of elevation change is a significant difference. Going over the corkscrew in iracing is intimidating.

GT5's version is pretty good, but it's the lack of bumps and road imperfections that kills it, it feels like runing on glass all the time... Add to that the superhero strenght race tires and all the challenge the track presents goes away, so it's a combination of a perfectly smooth surface and inferior physics that puts this track in second place.
On top of that the lack of concecuneses from going off or putting a tire off takes so much from the experience, you take eaurouge flatout anyways, if you're all over the place it really doesn't matter you loose nothing, same goes for every other corner there's just no challenge.

Anyone doing any of the Legends races for week 13? I did one last night at Summit Point and it was crazy fun. Those cars are wicked to drive!!!

I'm bummed my subscription goes away next week. I've already asked for a full year subscription for Christmas, so if my wife delivers I'll be back on for the long haul.

Until then GT5.
