Dav11 you can see it using telemetry. I loaded a telemetry file into Atlas and created a waveform with throttle position.

Being able to compare telemetry is amazing. Its one thing to read track notes or watch a lap video and quite another when you can see every element of the controls and reactions.

Now don't get me wrong I am no where near fast but I do know what I need to change now.

It isn't that easy to get going with Atlas/telemetry and I am only just a beginner. Everything I know I've learned via the iRacing forums and the links I found there. iRacing has the software a quickstart guide that is ok under resources. Lapfaster has a great guide that can help you know what to look for.

do you have a 58 time from a person you know is smooth?

its not as important for slower cars but F1 cars it's very important due to the narrow operating window on the limit.
the tire model we have now on the F1 is pretty unrealistic in certain areas.
Hopefully the NTM will fix this un the same philosophy as driving the lmp2 and GT2 Ford.

I am guessing that a :58 is near limits of what is possible based on what iRacing forum members have to say. That lap was from Jan Coomans "My best time is nearly 2 tenths off my optimal (58.475-58.307)". So I don't know if he is smooth but I guess he knows what he is doing :)

yea i did not imply you cant go fast with some thottle play, just that being smooth and only plant the thottle if you know you don't have to lift is the absolute quickest way, especially in extreme cars like the F1 :)

can anyone here maybe help me out please?

got a fanatec gt3 rs v2 with csp's and every ******g time i run iracing my FFB seems to disconnect cause i hear the typical windows 7 "bong" when a USB device disconnects.

Wether i connect my pedals via usb or attached to my wheel via ps2 - it always disconnects after a while in game.

i reinstalled iracing, reinstalled the fanatec software, even got a new usb cable to connect the wheel, but still, always with iracing i loose the FFB in game.

I play occasionally DIRT 3, and the wheel works like a charm.
Spend alot of time on GT5, and the wheel works flawless!

Just ran a Mustang race at spa, and after 6 laps i heared the bong, and lost FFB!:yuck: (managed to finish the race though)

Great link, thanks.

It seems you're not the only one:

Maybe try some of the suggestions there to see if they help even if they didn't for others.

I have a similar problem (although it's not as common for me now) and I seemed to have improved it by plugging the USB lead into a 3.0 card and not the on-board USB ports. It's frustrating as hell when it happens so I feel your pain!

Also, watch out for static electricity. This was also a factor for me; I ended up earthing my cockpit and seat which improved it ten-fold... :)

mmm, i now downloaded and installed the latest driver and the latest firmware and so far so good, ran 10 laps at spa in the mustang and not a single DC from the FFB. will check in tomorrow again and report. hopefully the firmware flash has solved the problem.

regarding your static electricty suggestion... that cant be possible that thats the case cause then i would have to loose FFB while playing dirt 3 on pc and GT5 on ps3 :)

Did a few races earlier today without qualifying. Bad, bad, bad, bad idea.:ouch: I always qualify for whatever race I'm heading into and didn't have time today, but wanted to do a few races anyway. Now I know to always qualify. Not that this is 100% fool proof, but it has worked out pretty good for the last 4 months I've been on iracing.

Just curious, but who is excited for the McLaren thats coming next year? I watched the few vids iracing has of it on the website and wow. That thing is awesome and sounds amazing.👍

Being smooth and hitting the gas only once is the fastest way out of a turn.

I agree 100%, but if you know that when you put your foot down you won't have to lift back off then you're not pushing the limit.

I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't be smooth, I'm just saying you need to try and put the throttle on earlier and earlier to go fast. Don't rely on what you know works, push harder and harder. Find a new limit.

Yes but thats the key. if you feel that you could have planted it earlier you keep that in mind for the next lap.

its still faster though then someone that has to lift slightly out of the corner.

I think we all are :) i already have a gp2 style league set up for it :)

I am! And hoping they make a car that can be driven without killing your SR like the Ford GT does!

Wow is the Ford GT that awful? Was wondering why no one ever seems to want to drive it

Was wondering was anyone planning on doing that Indy car race in honor of Dan? I would totally do it but I havent purchased that content yet. Dont want to burn my credits on a car I cant even use

Time to play devil's advocate

Although this is most often the case, this doesn't always apply to a turbocharged car (especially one that has a big turbo with a lot of lag and traction issues) where throttle input vs. power output is far from linear, and more importantly, instantaneous. Actually I know this first hand from driving my turbocharged Mustang in real life :mischievous:

Also, on very tight courses (particularly with tight back to back hairpin corners) if you have a car that has a natural tendency to understeer, a quick stab of the throttle can be beneficial to get the car to free up in order to rotate a bit quicker.

On another note, IMO being alien quick in iRacing is mostly about being able to roll the car into and out of the corner while keeping the car at the available grip/slip angle threshold. This is something that is quite hard to master (particularly in say the FW31), especially when trail braking is neccesary. This is where you need to be really in tune with the game, while having great visual/imaginary feel and of course great accuracy with your inputs to keep things balanced just perfectly.

Grr, wish I could figure out where the Week 13 events are. Did that end already?

Like the Week 13 Street Stock Challenge for example

Week 13, oddly enough, is every 13 weeks....

I don't mean that to sound nasty, but it marks an end of the 12 week series calendar. Once the 12 week season is over, the 13th week allows iRacing to split the year up into 4 quarters.

Yeah but what confused me when I looked at that guy's profile it appeared he was already doing week 13 events (click on the link you'll see what I mean)

If you look at the dates he has on his profile, he has done the Dan Wheldon special, three iRacing Legends races (which is standard racing), and then the rest are Week 13 events, from the last time it was running (the 28th July 2011). He hasn't ran iRacing for three months. I can understand why you made the mistake though.

After doing a lot of testing and getting used to iRacing I finally did my first race. I achieved my goals of not wrecking and not wrecking anyone else but I was so hyper conservative I did not do well.

For example I started at the back of the grid but somehow managed to pass a few people. Early in the race there was a multi-car incident where 3 cars ended up stopped in the middle of a corner all pointing the wrong way. I could have easily gone inside around them but I was not sure how the following car would react. I just stopped and let the spun cars get going again. Needless to say this didn't do wonders for my race results lol.

Anyway it was a lot of fun but pretty confusing the first time out. There is a mysterious quality to iRacing in its lack of hand-holding that actually makes it feel like real racing must.

Anyway, all this for a question. In the F3 screen what do the colors represent?

I am guessing yellow just means me? Can I be different colors?
Red means someone lapping me?
What is blue?
Are there other colors I should know about?

Red is someone lapping you, or has already lapped you. Blue is someone you are about to lap or have lapped.

And yes, you're always in yellow/orange. White means that those drivers are on the same lap as you :)

@DG_Silva, Yeah I was so turned around. This will be my 1st week 13 so really looking forward to it

I wouldn't look forward to it too much, Week 13 is when all the idiots come out to play, and you can end up losing a lot of SR if you're not careful...

In some series there is. I think I'll stay out of iRacing during Week 13 too, got my MPR to Class B already and my SR is above 3.0 (Road). Maybe I'll have a go in some oval races, don't know.
