I am doing the week13 Legends. That means in reality, I have practiced a few times but I'm even too bad to do a time trial :)

It is super fun but I am nearly completely incompetent.

Jav: That sounds like a pretty fair evaluation.

I'm bummed my subscription goes away next week. I've already asked for a full year subscription for Christmas, so if my wife delivers I'll be back on for the long haul.
I just got this as an early birthday gift from mine:

:)

Gonna try the enduro in Spa tomorrow.

Awesome list of maps livemusic 👍

@SpecMiata-JSW, that sucks your sub is ending?! I jumped on the one year subscription plan myself which worked out great so check into it

Had a good race going finally at Spa in the MX5, then lost connection. Something must've happened to their servers cause now it says under maintenance which I don't believe was scheduled. Could be wrong, but have always been able to finish a race before it would go to the maintenance screen.

I started 27th in a 39 car field. I'm not qualifying for any of the races as I'm working on improving my racecraft. I was up to 4th overall and 2nd in the MX5 class catching the leader. It was an awesome race till that point. I missed about 5 wrecks and a few of those were really close calls. When the server comes back up we'll try it again.

Week 13= The loonies come out to play:lol: Its alot of fun, but thank the Lord that it doesn't count. A race I had a few hours ago there was a wreck on the straight after eau rouge in front of me. Smoke completely blocking all sight, 3 cars behind me, and didn't know to lift or slow down. So I played Days of Thunder and kept the foot down. Doesn't work like the movies. Aaahh, good times though.👍

In case no one has seen it, the site now says

It appears we suffered a partial power loss
in our data center.

We are experiencing a snow storm, but we do not
know if it is related

At this time, we are unsure why the redundant power
systems at the data center failed.

We are expecting that full recovery is going to require
braving the storm to physically be in the data center.

It is not uncommon for there to be hardware failures
when there is unexpected power loss. Such failures
might increase downtime.

We will keep you posted, but downtime could be multiple hours.

For some reason, I'm tempted to quote a Stephen King Movie I can't even remember the name of.

Guess the Snowstorm has gotten them too.

Ran the legends last night after the servers returned. I believe we started with a full grid of cars (30 is it?). Anyway it was down to a far less then full grid after turn 1. haha

Cars were everywhere on and off the track. I purposely held way back and picked my way through the wrecks. I got finally clear scrapping past the last wreck when someone rammed me from behind... sigh. Finished 13 of 30 mainly due to attrition but also maintained my position with the few on my lap.

But the race brought something up for me and I'd like some advice.

So I am going though the Okayama chicane when a lapper comes up on me. Coming out of the turn onto the straight I am not quite on-line and I see in my mirror the person behind is trying to squeeze by on my right (outside). I was fading out toward him so I lifted and pulled to the left.

Seemed like the right thing to do, but now I was far left, going slowly, with a left-hander coming up and suddenly several more lappers approaching fast. I was nearing the turn so I maintained my speed (slow) and hugged the inside line. I was at at the apex when the first lapper crashed into me and the second guy hit both of us too.

In my mind I expected that the approaching car would see me in the turn(?) and take the outside. On review, the guy who hit me ran the normal line through the turn as if I did not exist.

On reflection I think it would have been better if I just stayed on the line the whole time and let the faster drivers figure out a way around instead of trying to get out of the way. What do you think?

Haha, I didn't even know there was a snowstorm. Shows how much I pay attention to the weather. If thats the cause, which it very well could be I suppose. iRacing's servers are usually pretty solid and stable, which is one of the best things iRacing does to make this sim stand out from others.👍

No, I probably should tho. Thanks!

Btw, at least on Ovals, I usually stay up high when I see someone trying to pass and give them the inner lane. It seems to be working out ok. I think in my 2nd LEgends race someone discussed this before the race and I stuck to it ever since

Guys, give the legends at Laguna Seca a try before 8:00 pm eastern tomorrow night (when the series ends). The car and track combo is 100% win!

I had a perfect race going earlier running 2nd, less than 3 seconds off the leader when a back marker turned into me with 4 laps left. Tough ending to a great race, but the combo still put a smile on my face for sure!

I definitely will! Need to get that SR up to get to A license!!

I had some fun in Spa on saturday. I tried a race with the MX-5 first, got fourth place overall and second place between MX-5s. I had the lead in the MX-5 most of the race but I was using the baseline setup and there was a driver with a pretty good setup, there was no way I could've held him.

After that I tried the SRF since I'll be racing it in a private league championship starting next week. Man am I glad this didn't count SR or iRating. Tried four races, in the first three I started in the middle of the grid and couldn't get passed Eau Rouge without ruining the car. It seemed some people were crashing on purpose. On the fourth race I started in third place, so I finally had a clean start but I ended up spinning a few times and had to pit to fix the car. I got bored and left. :P

I was just looking at the Season 4 calendar and realized I still don't have enough tracks to get some credits on the Star Mazda series, at least two more would be necessary. So I scrolled down to the Lotus schedule and I have 8 tracks they'll use. Figure it's cheaper to buy one car than two tracks so I'll be trying it this week. Plus it seems like a cool car to run, with a good community.

The Lotus is an awsome car to drive, but unfourtunately there's no many people racing in that series, you'll have a better chance of finding official races with the Star Mazda on wich almost all races go official!

Does anyone here use a wireless connection for iracing?

I know it's not ideal, but I may have to do this as I don't want to set up my system where the modem is.

I use wireless for iRacing and haven't had any problem with it. My ping is a solid 133ms from England (which seems to be about right for this location) and I haven't had any reports of me blinking (or problems with everyone else blinking!). However the distance between the wireless router and my PC is only about 5 metres through a floor (basically from downstairs in the house to upstairs) which no doubt helps.

OK, my ping using wireless is 289ms

However my mate from Aus has a ping of over 300ms and that works fine. Another option is to run a cable through the roof...

Ping of 289ms to a US server is pretty good for us mate. 👍

I'm the mate I think, but my ping is between 310ms to 350ms to US servers on iRacing and i'm wired connection. As long as your connection is stable you should be alright.

I use wireless with no troubles. I am not sure that a cable will make a difference in your ping. The latency almost for sure in the connection to the server outside of your house not inside. That said am inconsistent or weak signal could be a big problem.

You just have to know the times of the races that are guaranteed to go official. The first Friday race always goes official, and if you want a split, the Sunday morning race just about always splits. Just use the race planner. It looks like participation is going to pick up this season.

It's a shame not every race goes official. I was not familiar with this concept really til I hit Road Class C. I suspect I'll be fine though cause being in the US when I logon it's no doubt peak hours. But I feel for others

Sweet! Hopefully I'll get a new loadcell for my pedals soon!

To race or not to race the Riley Mkxx? That is the question..... :ouch:

I am like 7 seconds slower than the leading times on Daytona Speedway. There is a great chance I will get my doors blown off. Trying to figure out what I am going to do.... I want for my Road iRating to improve....

Good news is my Oval iRating is hovering above 1400 so far which was a nice surprise. My last race during 13th week in the street stocks did not go so well. Didn't get a chance to practice a whole lot and committed ultimate stupidity by plowing into the back of a guy I had already lapped at the finish line :ill:

Man this sim can be very forgiving of my nobbery at times. I'd expected to loose much more SR then just -6 for that race. And I do not think they deducted much from my iRating for that loss

I don't know the Riley car so I'm not sure if 7 seconds is too off pace or not, but in the Lotus this is pretty common. Top times are 1:22/1:23 at Silverstone but some people run 1:31s. I couldn't get lower than 1:26 so far but the two races I did yesterday were great fun. Here's a video of the second one:

I actually managed to shave off a bunch of seconds and now I can hit 1.44s :dopey:

The leaders can hit 1.41s so I'm still a little off. I am now more concerned with being more consistent. Planning on hitting a Grand Am Rolex race 1st opportunity I get. Can't wait

Going to watch the vid here in a bit

Good luck with it. 👍

When I get home iRacing will be offline because of the updates. When it comes back I'll start practicing with the SRF for the private league championship I'll be running starting next tuesday night.
