3D3 racing is hosting and promoting a friendly challenge between the various current GTPlanet GT500 leagues. The idea is to have up to six individual GT500 leagues on GTPlanet send four drivers each to compete against drivers from other leagues in a bracket-style championship.

Event Summary

Title: GTP Inter-League SuperGT GT500 Challenge
Location: Public Lobbies (Watch this thread just prior to the event for the room #'s)
Date & Time: December 3, 18:00 GMT
Duration: ~3 hours
Track: Spa Francorchamps

Format:
Bracket style championship.

Bracket Assignment: 3D3 Racing will use http://www.random.org/lists/ to conduct a random draw on Saturday November 19th @ 18:00 GMT. This drawing will be streamed live* on the internet via http://www.livestream.com/3D3Racing to ensure the authenticity of the random draw. The names of all 6 leagues will be entered into the tool, a marshal will click randomize at *exacty* 18:01 GMT and let the site randomly rank teams 1-6. Ranks 1-3 will be assigned to semi-final lobby A and ranks #4-6 will be assigned to semi-final lobby B. The website output (with timestamp) and bracket assignments will be posted immediately on this thread.

*Log into the stream at least a couple minutes before the bracket selection as there is a required ad to view before you can view the stream.

Semi-Final: The first semi-final round includes two lobbies with each lobby consisting of 3 teams of 4 drivers. Lobby assignments for the 6 teams will be made randomly using http://www.random.org/lists/. The top 3 drivers from each league score points for their team in the semi-final. The top 2 teams from each semi-final advance to the final, but only the top 3 point scoring drivers from the teams advance.

Final: The second and final round will include the 4 advancing teams with their 3 point scoring drivers from the semi-final round. All 3 drivers will count toward the team points for the final round.

Consolation [Optional/TBD]: A consolation lobby could be set up simultaneous to the finals lobby for all drivers that do not advance.

Using this format each lobby is limited to 12 drivers which will help reduce network lag issues. Each lobby could also include one or two non participating marshals/observers.

  1. 18:00 to 18:15...Warm-up............Pre-race practice [optional*]
  2. 18:15 to 18:30...Drivers Meeting....Driver instructions & staging course entry
  3. 18:30 to 18:45...Qualification......Single stint 15 minute live quali for the semis
  4. 18:45 to 19:30...Semi Final Races...45 minute races in two lobbies simultaneous
  5. 19:30 to 20:00...Break..............Tally points, determine advancing drivers/teams
  6. 20:00 to 20:15...Qualification......Single stint 15 minute live quali for finals
  7. 20:15 to 21:00...Finals Race........45 minute race
  8. 20:15 to 21:00...Consolation Race...45 minute race [optional]

*Pre-race practice optional, but all drivers must be in their assigned lobby at least 5 minutes before the drivers meeting.
Registration

Reply to this thread and include the name of the league/series and optionally a list of potential drivers from your series that would be willing to participate in this single race event. You will be able to change the list of drivers that will represent your league up until 24 hours before the event at which point the grid becomes final. The only requirement is the driver must be active in your current season at the time of the event.

Vehicle Specifics:

The first four leagues to sign up will pick one of the four GT500 premium car from the list below and all drivers from that league must drive the same car. Cars will be crossed out once chosen. Team #5 and #6 will either choose from an alternate car specified below (SC430) or can pick a duplicate GT-R once their bracket assignment is complete.

Qualification Format/Procedures

  1. The lounge will be reset just prior to the start of the quali session to clear practice times and begin the quali session.
  2. After the reset participating drivers will be invited to enter the course and begin qualification.
  3. Once a driver enters the track after the reset he is NOT allowed to leave the track or make pit stops for any reason*.
  4. During their one stint a driver will: (i) warm up tires for a lap, (ii) run a few (3-5) hot laps until tire wear prevents improving, and (iii) park far from the racing line and observe.
  5. At 12, 13 and 14 minutes on the lobby clock a race marshall will announce a three, two and one minute warning via text message. The race countdown timer will be started exactly at the 15 minute mark.
*Anyone caught entering the pits after they begin their quali session will incur a 10 point penalty for their team. Not knowing the rules is not an excuse.

  • Pit Stops: Allowed and as often as you need to but not required. When exiting the pit lane, remember to stay within pit lane exit boundaries and yield to approaching drivers. No pit road speed limit, but not a worry at Spa anyway.

Standard Clean OLR Rules Apply:

All participants are required to follow the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines.
  • 2 wheels on (or vertically in line with) the track at all times
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track
  • Limit your contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • No cheating of any kind
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • Passing and Blocking: Aggressive blocking is not permitted, but the driver in front has the right to choose his/her line and braking point and drivers behind should respect that line.

Infractions and Penalites
3D3 Racing will keep the penalty system as simple and clear cut as possible. We have to count on the participants being fair and honest in order for this event to be a success. All the drivers on the list have reputations here at GTPlanet as do the series they are representing and we're confident blatant cheating or dirty driving will not be an issue.

However, it's still prudent to have ground rules and deterrents. Therefore 3D3 Racing reserves the right to apply penalties for clear and obvious infractions as determined by appointed race marshals. Those penalties could include anything from minor point deductions to driver disqualification to full team disqualification.

Semi-Final: The scoring system for the semi-final round only counts points from the top 3 drivers for each team. However, to deter any unfair tactics by the 4th driver on each team, penalties from all four drivers will be deducted from the team total for that round.

We have a very short window of time between rounds so we will not have a chance to perform a thorough review of the semi-final replay before deciding which teams advance. However, marshals will make an effort to review major reported incidents that had a substantial impact on the outcome. After the event 3D3 Racing will perform a full review and any clear and obvious cheating or dirty tactics will result in a team's result being invalidated after the event.

Final: 3D3 Racing will publish the preliminary results immediately following the final round, but those results will not be considered final until there has been a full review of all replays and an investigation of any reported incidents by race marshals. All reviews will be complete and the results final by Friday December 9th. Teams should each save their own replays and report any obvious incidents to 3D3 Racing within 24 hours of the event. Only obvious infractions will be reviewed and considered.

3D3 Racing will be finalizing race marshals in the week prior to the event. The initial plan is to have two race marshals observe the racing live from each lobby which will give them the ability to save the replay for immediate review (if necessary):

That time may be tough given we may have several EU drivers. Once we have an idea who is considering participating we can start throwing out some specific date/time options.

Scheduling is going to be the toughest part of this event, but hopefully since it's only a one time thing we can pull something together that works.

We've just received a verbal commitment via PM from PURE JGTS that they are interested. Just sent them the formal invite and wanted to reserve a spot for them so I've updated the OP. 👍

I've also sent out invites to WSGTC, MRC and ICGTC. If all three express interest we will run two events of 12 drivers each with one race in an EU friendly spot (8:00 PM GMT) and one in an NA friendly time slot (9:30 PM EST). In that case each League would be reserved two driving slots in each grid and then could trade/negotiate switching spots with other leagues drivers so you could end up with 3/1 or 2/2 or even 4/0, but those trades would have to be agreed upon. No single driver can race in multiple events however.

It's likely one grid will end up a little stronger than the other but hopefully by giving each league rights to 2 slots in each we'll make it somewhat fair and then they can trade if it works best for them.

In that case League champion would be the team with most points across both events with the top 3 points receiving drivers across both events counting toward their team.

PS> We'll also have to homologate two additional cars in that case, but we'll cross that bridge after we get reaction from the remaining invited series.

EDIT 2: If we're doing 2 rooms, would'nt it be cool if each room acts like a kind of semi final.. So top 8 drivers from ech room form a final 16 car grid at a later date?

Homologation: The STEALTH GT500 GT-R fits in nicely at 607 pp, 1130 kg with the use of the powerlimiter. 👍
You also have the Lexus cars which can be brought up to par by allowing them turbo stage 2, Power Limited to around 95%, and at 1130 kg.. Thay are at 609 pp at those specs and are close to identical to the GT-R's in terms of pace.

RE: EU vs NA. I think several series are predominantly made up of NA drivers so I'm sure you'd get a slot or two in the EU event via trade if we end up with two grids. It would be nice if each series had at least one driver in each grid however.

If interest is there after that we can invite the top 6 from each grid (regardless of team) to compete in a final event at a later date to crown the individual driver champion. I'll strongly consider your homologation recommendations. I guess the proof is in the pudding... would you be willing to trade your Calsonic for either of these at those specs for a race at Spa if one of the other series is dubious? You guys have done more testing than just about anyone and I trust your findings. Note: I hope you don't mind if I copied your setup for the Stealth GT-R and Lexus from the PURE JGTS thread to the OP here given you basically offered up those options.

Anyway, I appreciate your interest and input. 👍

Time to start working on details re: time / date!

Still waiting to hear from the MRC and ICGTC leagues. From all discussions on their threads it seems like they are interested. If they both send 4 drivers then we'll for sure go with two grids / time slots which will actually be better as individual drivers has a couple options to make a race.

Let's wait about 24 hours for an official response from them and then we'll throw out a few options. My preference is to run the event between Nov 28 and Dec 7th. Assuming we do two grids (EU and NA) they don't even have to be on the same day.

That timing will also give us a little time to set up a few tests to identify any driver network issues and work out any kinks with the lounge setup and staged entry, etc. Maybe a short practice session and 15 minute test race for each time slot at a similar time to the events. Participation in the test sessions is optional of course, but it would be good to know about "invisible" driver issues ahead of time even if there's nothing we can do about them.

Well, I don't like the Lexus as much as the GT-R.. And others feel the other way around. So I would personally don't want to switch cars.

What we might need to concider is that the Lexus is euqal with the GT-R over an entire season. Which meens that it will be a tad faster on certain tracks, and a tad slower on others. So I think we need to run those 2 cars against eachother to determine the difference in pace on this specific track before comming to a final specs for this spot race.. Not that I think we need to tweak the Lexus at all, but the possibility is there, so we should do some testing just to make sure.
The Powerband separates the cars caracter quite a lot. The Lexus got a much wider Power Bnad compared to the GT-R's, while the GT-R's got more peak Power. So there will be differences between the cars no matter what you do.. But it's the pace over the entire Spa lap that is interesting.
But as a bottom line, the specs you've posted in the OP are spot on. 👍

Ofc I don't mind if you "borrow" our specs. 👍

I could also help out with some testing as well if this series will have more entrants.

3D3 has always used the "standard" race quality setting, but we're willing to try/test "high". Our typical 3D3 events (WRS combos) are typically quite social in nature, being competitions between WRS drivers of widely varied skill levels and we enable mics, but with mics disabled for this event there would be extra bandwidth available to use "high" quality.

Assuming we end up with two race time slots there will definitely be room for you to stream the event. In an ideal world we'll have 6 leagues of 4 drivers so two lobbies of 12 drivers. There should be room for an observer for sure.
 
I was thinking we could do it ladder tournament style. Draw teams to match up the first six teams and split them into two rooms. I found it too hard to try and split four teams of four so I'm thinking three drivers per team just makes a lot more sense. It's easier for each league to find three good drivers more than four, it's be more of a best of "podium winners" thing, there's that much less traffic, it should be even more better for network performance and the most important thing:
once the two rooms have their race (which I think should be set to 125km for both races) then two teams are eliminated and the twelve drivers in four teams left will have their race finale proper.

That way's not complicated and would make for an epic, almost tournament style, night of racing.

A good "happy medium" time I'm thinking right now is 20:00

I read your post in MRC and saw that you were considering using the NSX.

Our specs were designed with our full race schedule in mind; actually, our whole schedule order was based around "GTR/Lexus track then NSX/Supra track then GTR. then NSX, etc."

So the NSX at our spec allows it to keep up better at twistier tracks but it tends to dominate at the faster tracks, although that aspect of its character's been watered down in PURE compared to how much it was in WSGTC.

So we would need a day in order to bring it down to just the right spec. I'd say with just a small decrease in power. Other wise it's too much of a hassle and shouldn't be used :)

A ladder tournament style will be awesome but i think we should first race in Spa to iron out any kinks and also to measure interest. 8pm GMT is a very good time for many drivers since its in the afternoon for the North american drivers while at the same time its just after dinner for the Europeans.
Before going anywhere and doing anything at all, we should all sort out a time and date.....
 
If it's Saturday, morning for U.S. is best, hopefully early afternoon for others. This way U.S. can go about their day and GMT their night.
 
Hi Guys and thanks for the input.

In order to prevent this from turning into chaos I think we should set a little more structure up front.

Preface: Ultimately this is a 3D3 event and 3D3 stewards have the final say on the rules and structure although believe me when I say we will take any good well thought out suggestions into consideration and our first priority is to have a fun and fair event. Personally, I would sacrifice my own participation as a driver in order to make the event run better if it was necessary, but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.

We're proposing that each participating league elect a team captain and that captain can represent their league in this thread at least until the rules, cars, date and time are finalized. The captain can field requests ideas from their own drivers in there own threads or PMs and then bring those ideas to this thread if and only if they "approve" them. I've changed the OP above and listed the team captain based on who contacted me about participation in the first place. Feel free to let me know if you want a different captain. Note: The captain does not have to be a participating driver.

As far Wardez's idea on formats and time, those are good suggestions and we have some ideas on slight tweaks, but the single day "bracket" style event will depend on every league committing to a single date/time. If that happens we're totally in favor of the bracket championship format. If not, the 2 event structure was proposed to allow two time slots and a better chance of participation from drivers. I've laid out the two options below.

Option #1:

We run a singe day two stage "ladder" event as Wardez describes above. Assuming we have a commitment from 6 leagues I suggest we still allow 4 drivers per team with teams split randomly between the two lobbies. That means each grid has 12 drivers and only the top 3 from each team count toward the team points. The top 2 teams from each lobby advance to the finals, but only with their top 3 finishing drivers so we have 12 drivers in the final event. If interest is there we can have the remaining drivers (lowest performing driver from each of the 4 advancing series and drivers from the eliminated leagues) compete in their own consolation race. The idea being *all* drivers can block off the entire time and know they are in for a full slot of good racing.

This option depends completely on everyone league agreeing on a single date time. I would also propose Dec 3 at 8:00 PM GMT, but the league captains need to come to agreement on that time.​

Option #2

The original multi-grid idea with each team getting 2 spots in a NA friendly timeslot and 2 spots in an EU friendly timeslot. Both races could be run on different days/times to provide some flexibility for individual drivers and leagues. Allow time-slot trades between leagues and tally points across both lobbies to determine team order. We could follow up at a later date to pit either the top finishing drivers from both time slots and/or the top teams, but the points for the two races would decide the league champion for the individual event.​

I would agree that Option #1 is better in many ways and it was considered by 3D3 initially, but based on our experience with hosting multi-time zone WRS events we know it's hard to get everyone to commit to a single time. If we can pull that off we're 100% in support of option #1.

One other weakness of Option #1 and moving straight into the final after the semi-final are procedures for reviewing any incidents. If we do two separate events (Option #2) we have ample time to review any incidents before assigning points. If we use option #1 then we just won't have much/any time for that review. We may have to come up with pretty strict rules for the semi-final and eliminate a driver (or both involved) if an incident appears malicious (or cheating suspected). Another reason to have 4 drivers with only 3 earning points for the semifinal. For the final event we can do a more thorough review. We really hope it doesn't go down this road, but we have to consider the structure to handle it.

Cars: We are only running Spa so we should be able to homologate the cars for that one track. We know 100% that the four GT-Rs are in the mix. I'm willing to consider other cars that would be of very close performance at Spa (which is all that matters for this event). Maybe the Nismo Z is an option at relevant specs? We'd look for input and some testing from the team captains or their leagues to come up with a couple more cars to match the GT-Rs. The Stealth GT-R was a good idea, but not everyone has it so probably has to be eliminated. If we can't all agree on cars then we may have to get 6 cars as close as possible and randomize the assignment to teams to be fair.

Time: Let's shoot for option #1 above and see if a time can be agreed upon. Dec 3 at 8:00 PM GMT would seem to be a very good first option. Let's make it the first order of business to have the team captains pick a time slot.

I would recommend we block off 3 hours just to be safe. That would include:

  1. 30 minute pre-race practice session (two lobbies / optional)
  2. 15 minute live quali for the semi-finals
  3. 45 minute semi-final races (simultaneous)
  4. 30 minute break to tally points*, assign drivers to the 2nd lobby and reorganize
  5. 15 minute live quali for the finals
  6. 45 minute final race (and optionally a simultaneous consolation race)

*We may want to allocate more time for the break between stages in case there are any race incidents to quickly review before the final. We won't have a week to review replays so we are counting on clean, fair driving.
 
This is a great idea and it looks very well organised, we have some interest within our league to enter this so please sign us up, we're gonna have a race next week to help determine our top drivers. We'd prefer to run in a GT-R but if the Lexus will perform equally with the specs it's given I guess there shouldn't be a problem.

👍 Glad to have your interest. What is your initial reaction to holding this event on Dec 3 at something close to 18:00 GMT.

I've gotten some good ideas via PM. Seems like everyone wants the GT-Rs which is no surprise. I'm thinking if we split the teams into two rooms by team (and not 2 drivers per team per room) we may just allow cars to be duplicated so that every series can drive one of the 4 GT-Rs originally listed in the OP.

We can just have teams #5 and #6 rank the GT-Rs in order of preference and assign them when we make the random room split. This will guarantee the semi-finals all have unique cars, but there most likely will be overlap for the finals. We'll do this unless some team volunteers to take a Lexus or another GT500 car homologized to the specs of the GT-Rs. We really don't want this to be about car choice.

I was thinking about using this site (http://www.random.org/lists/) to randomize the room selection. I'll enter in the names of all 6 leagues, click randomize and let the site randomize them in order 1-6. Rank 1-3 will be in room #1 and Rank #4-6 will be in room #2. If we could figure out a way for someone to observe the randomization I'm fine with that also. I'd be willing to share my screen online during the process using gotomeeting or something.

I tested a quick randomization and here were the results:

Consolation Lobby: Bottom team from each semi and lowest driver from four advancing teams

Car Choice:

ICGTC picks between the Nissan Calsonic IMPUL GT-R 08 and Nissan Xanavi NISMO GT-R 08.
MRC picks between the Nissan YellowHat YMS TOMICA GT-R 08 and Nissan AUTECH MOTUL GT-R.​

Of course this is not official and we haven't even gotten a commitment from ICGTC yet.

Now, how does a driver of more then one series involved sort which to run under the tag of?
For example, I'm in WSGTC and Pure, and Nepalli's in WSGTC, Gamsta's, and Pure.

Is the STEALTH GT500 GT-R slower?? What do you base that on if I may ask you?

For example, I'm in WSGTC and Pure, and Nepalli's in WSGTC, Gamsta's, and Pure.

The league picks you to represent them. If you get nominated by multiple leagues then you have to decide which one you'll represent. Obviously you can't represent more than one.
