After parity racing tonight?

Parity already lasts the full two hours. Why not just make this race one of our "wild card" races? Or even have it as the theme for next week's Parity Racing?

Also, if there aren't enough cars to go around, maybe we have teams of two per car? Just a thought.

I will stick around after the races tonight if anyone would like to try this with me you are more than welcome. If it's fun and well received mabye wild card is a good idea.

Yea I guess you guys are right, the chrome grill on this car isn't the same in the pic, but this car is cool:)

Plus you'd have to put a spoiler on the back of the 8C… which would be an utterly blasphemous, and completely logical, thing to do.

That car was made to be beautiful, that's it. Yes it may have a V8 engine, but that's like putting track spikes on a supermodel; she's still going to look good, but she's not going to go any faster.

I did put a spoiler on it and went to Tokyo to take the pics, and I didn't change the tires, that car is real nice to look at, but driving it, nah, lol, I'll leave that to you guys, was like driving on ice.

Speaking of wild card ideas... I have a couple that I'm not sure how to flesh out, and they could be merged...

One idea would be tuned cars. Ideally we would have about a dozen or more drivers. And not everyone would need to tune a car. They would just be the drivers. There would be another three or four people (and they could be drivers as well, but they don't have to be). They tune the cars. Then they draft drivers from the list to drive their cars. So there will be, hopefully, a dozen drivers driving only a handful of tuned cars. So we could have, not only driver's points, but "constructors" points, too.

Would have to be a bit of faith that you don't tweak the settings. You have to drive the car the way the constructor built it. And while I could see this being done with a single make, I think it would be a little more interesting to set some sort of common guidelines. Either a powertrain(engine size, drive wheels)/HP/weight limit, or a powertrain/PP limit.

I think it would also be more fun over a few weeks with longer (45 to 90 minute) races. But I don't know where we could schedule such a thing. The constructors don't have to be drivers, so it is a way for some people to participate even if they can't make it.

'Course, my mind starts to go wild at that point. I was thinking the constructors could draft the drivers (after all, they wouldn't want me to drive their car, but one of them has to draw a short straw). My mind starts going to "constructors" running the teams, trading/replacing drivers and whatnot. Maybe even giving directions before the race (pit every x laps). But that just gets kind of silly.

Aww, come on man. That car @ Suzuka has been my favorite combo thus far.

I'm not hating; I liked it too. I just feel like it could have been better. I mean, look at it!

nope not that pic it's the other side. the inside cover (open case).

as you can see the black car center, rear, looks like a tuned S2000 mabye, as for the car behind the Blitz you can just make out the roof and it is distinct but i can't place it.

Ahh, yes, it is. The little picture on the far left....I did say that was the one I was looking at.

I like the draft idea. To mix it up even more (or to add an element of parity), we could say that the points that all D3 drivers points would be worth triple the amount, D2 drivers points would be double the amount, and a D1 drivers points would not be multiplied at all.

Another way.. Each constructor can only "draft" on driver from each division.. Both of these measures would prevent only D1 drivers from getting drafted and would encourage participation by all.

I don't think that this would be an issue. Those who volunteer to be a constructor would obviously think they know how to tune. I think the majority of us would just as well assume to take an "expert's" tune over our own. Why mess with a tune if you have less tuning ability than the person who provided the tune to you and wants you to win?

If there's enough interest, how about we block out a few Thursday nights? Of course, there are a few other ideas that were presented first so those would get to go first (iceburgeson's 2 class semi-endurance comes to mind).

So the "constructors" would basically be playing B-spec, but with real drivers???

Awesome!

Since we're letting our minds go.. How many of you have access to Ventrilo? We could have our computers running next to our PS3's so that team members and their manager/constructor could communicate without letting the other team eavesdrop. Heck, we might be able to pull something like that off with Google+'s hangout feature..

Iceburgeson and I have been talking about doing the two-class race on Friday.

I don't know how I feel about people watching me race and vice-versa.

zer0, you have a marvelous imagination. I'm just trying to figure out how to make sure my PS3 headset doesn't pick up what is being said from Ventrilo.

Ahh.. I like that. Each constructor must recruit of team of three drivers, one from each division. If you do that, then don't worry about any difference in points. The only problem I see is... would there be enough interest in something like this such that there were a balanced number of drivers from each division?

I don't think letting people watch would really work out. The room only holds 16, so each person watching is a spot someone could use for driving.

Still, the three drivers could talk amongst themselves without everyone else listening in. Planning pit stops together or drafting or whatever.

Zero, on the evening that you want to run Ventrilo/Google+/TeamSpeak, reconfigure the lounge to turn off voice chat there. You don't need two voice clients hogging everyone's bandwidth. I really imagine that the voice client in GT5 takes more bandwidth than the game does.

I have Google+'s , and I use hangout often. I do not have access to Venterilo

Here's a crazy thought, I was wondering why nobody really goes into the S.N.A.I.L. Rooms for fun. I mean I'm sure there are people from this group in the game at most times, wouldn't it be great to jump in D3 or whatever and there be 3 or 4 people there, and jump in a have a few fun races? I'd love that, just fun, instead of getting screwed in an online room, have some fun clean short races with the people here. The events are great, don't get me wrong, but sometimes it would be cool just to have fun without there being an agenda. I don't know, just a thought.

Google Hangout is what I'm talking about. Ostensibly you would leave it connected while racing which would make things interesting.

I'm about to use the D1 lounge to practice for the challenge. Anyone is welcome to join.

I'm hopping in the D2 lounge now for Parity Tuesday! :) Impreza RMs!

They look a little high though. I imagine they are tuned for rally.

Iceburgeson and I have been talking about doing the two-class race on Friday.

Do you mean this Friday or an upcoming Friday? Either way, please let your plans be known well in advance so that everyone can plan for it (especially dylansan who's been hosting the last few Fridays).

As we've discussed, there are simply too many good ideas being thrown out and not enough days in the week. We're going to have to coordinate with each other and "share" some of the days.

As I said before, I'd be willing to start doing the Magic Lap Racing on Saturdays if it would fit better into the schedule.

I can move this week's race to that day if you'd like.

Not this week, in the future!

Just a heads up, I won't be here to race this Sunday. Cousin's wedding in Colorado. I miiiiight be back in time, but I'm not holding my breath!

Well if we used something like Vent, TeamSpeak, or G+Hangouts, we would probably do as Vol suggested and disable voice chat withing the PS3 lounge. Not doing so would mean every driver racing would be dedicating twice the amount of bandwidth to voice that they normally would be. 👎

However, doing this would also mean that everyone would need to have a pair of headsets that works with their computer (which most of us probably already have).

Ahh.. I like that. Each constructor must recruit of team of three drivers, one from each division. If you do that, then don't worry about any difference in points. The only problem I see is... would there be enough interest in something like this such that there were a balanced number of drivers from each division?

That's correct. Mandating only one driver from each division would mean that all drivers would earn equal points. What I like most about this idea is that it would make many D2 and D3 drivers more valuable than D1 drivers. Just like in fantasy sports, you don't always draft the players who will score the most touchdowns (or in this case the most race wins), you draft the players that are the best at their position (or in this case best in their division) so that you fill have a roster of players (drivers). The goal is to have a roster of drivers that can outperform their counterparts at the same position (from the same division).

For example, even though I'm classified as a D1 driver, I should be drafted after most D2 and D3 drivers since I would have a hard time beating other D1 drivers on the grid. And that's a big deal because each team can only get one driver from each division. Am I making sense here?

I don't think letting people watch would really work out. The room only holds 16, so each person watching is a spot someone could use for driving.

Then again, with some of everyone's bandwidth saddled with Ventrilo/TeamSpeak/G+Hangout, would we want 16 drivers on the track at once? What if we just had four teams of four? Each team would consist of three drivers (one from each division) and one constructor/manager. Therefore, only 12 drivers would be on the track (still plenty) and the other 4 would just watch so that they could manage their teams determine pit strategy (more on that below), while not taking up the bandwidth that would be used up by them being in the actual race as well.

Still, the three drivers could talk amongst themselves without everyone else listening in. Planning pit stops together or drafting or whatever.

Speaking of pit stops, I like the idea of pretending that each team has to share the same pit crew. Therefore, no more than one driver from any given team can be at the pits at the same time. Accidentally sending two cars from the same team into the pits at the same time would mean that the second car in would have to wait for their pit crew to finish working on the first car. If this happened, we could simulate this backlog at the team's pit stall by issuing a 30 second penalty to the second driver at the time he exits the pits.

👍

What do you guys think of these ideas?
