Most folks seem to dread driving on dirt in GT5 because they go in with a rally car and find it sliding all over in a cloud of dirt and dust. I enjoyed rally in GT3 but found GT5 to be difficult to get used to because I'd always end up pointing where I came from with any car that I tried off road.

The Dust Devil seeks to tame the car for a more user friendly experience. It still needs to be driven as if it is on a slippery surface (because it is) but the rear should be less likely to come around as fast making it more manageable for those not used to dirt.

NOTE: still need to adjust final numbers on the power limiter as I'm sure with full break in and an oil change I will need to use it. Will edit it in as soon as I put it up for share.

I've wanted to tune this one for a long time. I just like the way it looks, plus I'm a sucker for 90s sports cars in general.

Driving this around Eiger shouldn't be a tough task. The rear will come around in the low speed first sector when you mash the loud pedal on exit. The front should pull it through with minimal effort on the driver's part.

Oooooh, lots of new toys to play with..!! Out of curiosity, has anyone else taken their rally cars online..?? I can't quite believe it, but apparently there are those loopy enough to want to run these things online..!!

Updated again, only Trackripper's cars left to test, along with setting some times for my own car...

{Cy}
Very nice job there Cy.👍👍

Here I was afraid someone might find the street cars brakes to soft and instead you say they are to heavy. Just goes to show the difference in driving styles and helps reinforce my opinion that brake settings are one of the most subjective parts of a tune fitting more to a drivers style, control type and preferences.

Anyways thanks again for the tests and great times.

Cy, I'll try and get to my PS3 ASAP to send that FR, been really busy recently.

You're alright, Sir. I was saving yours for last anyway. I fancy back-to-backing them with my own :mischievous:

My pleasure, Sir. If you took a couple of clicks from the rear and gave them to the front, it would suit me just about right 👍

NEWDRIVER2 have you posted your tune somewhere? I only have a link to the post where you chose your cars. Your cars are obviously on share already because Cykosis already tested.

Can you post soon or do you need help from one of us to post them?

Because I am probably the worst test-driver in the world! That means my results are from another dimension! lol

It's probably because it's the fastest up the long hill, that gets you the extra time. Only one I got consistently over 80mph on the hill

Oh my it's close. Cheers for the feedback, I know what you mean by it not being extremely thrilling, but I feared if I'd left it exciting it would be too much of a handful to get consistent times with.

Bit surprised that you say you weren't able to get most of these over 80mph consistently going up the hill. I drive using an automatic transmission with a DS3 and think that pretty much all of the 4wd rally cars I tried out while deciding on my choice of entry were running 84-88mph. I'm not a great driver and I use the driving line, but on this course and rally driving in general you have to learn which braking indicators to ignore completely. On the hill you should be able to maintain full or nearly full throttle the entire way up as long as you take the proper lines. Momentum is critically important so the brakes are your enemies, the hill is steep enough that most often all you'll need is to back off the throttle slightly to get your speed adjusted.

Anyways great job testing and glad you liked my Rally car.👍👍

Oh, I have learned which ones to ignore, but my lines aren't perfect on gravel. I only got a few to tap 80-82 sometimes.

I also couldn't get them up too high on the speedo up the hill. Granted the only car I used at all was the Celica (I decided to use it before the shootout even started :D) but I think 82 was about the fastest I could ever get it consistently. I tried running faster through that critical corner before the uphill starts but I kept hitting the fence if I went too fast. After getting the car settled I tried to get a good feel through there because it's probably the most important on the whole course but I just couldn't get it as dialed in there as I wanted.

Getting good speed over that bump near the bottom that wants to throw you into the outside barrier will go a long way towards helping your overall speed. As I mentioned before its all about keeping your momentum up.
During my testing I got both the '86 Pug 205 and the Toyota RSC to hit over 90mph. If I recall correctly the 205 was the fastest car up the hill, requiring me to adjust my gears so it didn't bounce off the rev limiter while climbing. Unfortunately the car was a serious handful to drive and seemed more intent on trying to kill me than in providing good lap times.

Test results

Rally:

Krenkme: 2:16.037
Keep her rear in line an the car's able to produce good times. Feels like a Yellowbird.

JTQmopar: 2:05.702 DC: 3
I think I might have a new go-to rally tune. Very intuitive control, but that might be because I own a Subaru irl. This car pulls through a corner with no problem rotating.

DigitalBaka: 2:03.140
Excellent grip. It has no problem staying on the line as long as I stay calm. Breaking distance isn't ill- proportionate. I have a problem rotating around the tighter corners but the high speed low angle corners more than make up for it.

CyKosis: 2:03.273 / DC: 2
As comfortable at a low angle drift as most cars are driving straight on tarmac. Counter-steering out if a drift is intuitive and is as easy or easier than initiating the drift in the first place. Excellent grip on the straights, allowing for great top speed. The wonderfully easy to control drifts makes taking the slaloming straight quicker than any other car so far. And it rotates around tight corners well too. How it has great low angle drift and great rotation I couldn't tell ya, but I'm enjoying it.

MCH: 2:02.148 / DC: 1
This cars average time is faster than the other cars hot lap. Consistently easy to drive. I'm not hot lapping so much as I'm pushing the sporting limit of the car. Most good rally cars (like some of the ones above) I angle into a corner and try to maintain an even drift till I can aim out. I usually angle in and have to adjust the car and then continue to adjust as I drift around the corner and hope I hit my line. With this car it behaves precisely as I expect. I don't have to adjust my angle once I enter the corner (usually), my expectations and the cars performance are in harmony.

NewDriver2: 2:16.324
Very difficult to control compared to some of the other entries. Most of my laps were red. The back end isn't as active as the Maxi 5 but it's a close second. Sporting around is fun and easy but hot lapping is suicidal.

TrackRipper: 2:04.499
Easy to control with alot of grip. In someone else's hands with a different driving style this car could really produce, but even more than tarmac a driver must adapt himself to the car and this one is too... off... for me.

Despy: 2:02.704
My first though, just after the start line was of a batter up to the plate pointing into the stands.
My second thought was how happy I was that this car didn't handle like the Holy Hand Grenade.
Once I learned that, like all his cars, I need to stay on the throttle as much as possible my times dropped.

Street:

Krenkme: 1:15.440
About what I expected after the rally version. Great fun, but half my laps didn't count. It takes a real fine sense of touch to know when and how much coil and un-coil and counter-steering when that fails. A very active back end. At least rotating around the tighter corners is no problem.

JTQmopar: 1:13.919 / DC: 3
Just like his rally tune this car was very intuitive to control. I knew before the first corner just how much steering and gas to give it, and improved with every lap.

DigitalBaka: 1:14.799
It was hard to control the consistent rotation of this car through the tighter corners. It had over-steer but the front had too much slip fir my taste. The braking distance felt a little long.

CyKosis: 1:14.261
It's been awhile since I had as hard a time describing a car. It has poor front grip. No, wait, it has excellent front grip. It has poor brakes. No, wait, the brakes are the best yet. It's hard to keep on the line. No, wait, it's easy to stay on the line. It's easy to rotate. No, wait, nevermind, that's totally true. Every lap I improved my time. Not one red lap. Admittedly my fifth lap I only improved by 0.001, but thats still an improvement. With this car it's all up to the driver.

NewDeiver2: 1:14.603
It took me several laps just to understand how to tame the rotation. Once I did it took me several more to fine tune my inputs so that the car could be pushed to its limit. Then I realized that the car did much better if I slowed down and kept the car restrained. The car is scary fast and always on the verge of chaos.

TrackRipper: 1:14.097
Once I came to an understanding with the under-steer it was a smooth ride. I never felt like I got the long corner before the tunnel correctly. So at least one of your cars fits my driving style apparently.

Despy: 1:13.807 /DC: 2
Excellent balance at the limit. An easy car to push to the limit but it takes a few corners to understand its attitude. It feels like ice skating but in a good way. Not out if control, but gliding. It still has the heart of a Wallbanger tune.

MCH: 1:13.075 / DC: 1
The most intuitive car I have ever driven (virtually). By the end I could have taken my hands and feet off the controls and just thought where I wanted to go ("You must think in Russian.")
Some cars (like the stock RUF RGT) I spend most of my effort keeping the car on the track, forget the line. Other cars, the vast majority, I spend my effort on keeping the car on the line. A rare few, like Despys and JTQmpoars, I rarely leave my chosen line and spend my effort on choosing the best line. With this car zero effort went into controlling it and keeping it on the line. All my effort was on prediction.
Beyond amazing. Borderline perfect.

Per Mr. Ronald I need to check on my cars. Apparently I have the street Celica shared twice and the rally was at 511PP. I hope you guys that tested them did a quick fact check so you don't need to re-run. :nervous: I will take them down and reshare in an hour or so. In the mean time do a quick check to make sure if you are going to run them.

Edit: cars down and reshared, hopefully without any bugs this time. :banghead:

I'll admit I didn't check the rally car, but I did see that there were two street cars shared. This is a 'feature' in GT5, I've seen it many times and it's nothing to worry about. Your street car was certainly at 450PP, that I did check.

I'll re-run your rally Celica later, it won't be a chore :mischievous:

That's a wicked bump that one, I worked hard to eliminate the magnetic effects of the barriers..!!

Interestingly, it is possible to get the car side-ways in the very bottom of the trough and keep it sideways until you start heading up the hill. Not time effective, but it does make you feel like a Richard Hammond Driving God. Krenkme's Renault was particularly good for that sort of sideways action :sly:

Thank you Mopar 👍. I know its fishy tall and also the brake on it very bad you need to brake very very early to manage the corner entery .
