Welcome to the Weekly Hot Hatch Series!

Now, as far as cars go:
  • Division into 2 classes.
  • Class 1 would be any hatchback with an engine capacity of exactly 2.0l or above. This would include bigger, more powerful cars (Golf R32, etc.).
  • Class 2 would be any hatchback with an engine capacity below 2.0l. This would include hot hatches such as the Lupo GTi, etc.
Regulations:
  • Cars may be modified in any way, other than Race Modified.
  • No race cars allowed. This includes tuner cars and rally cars. (No HPA Stage II R32, Delta S4 Rally Car, WRC cars, etc.)
  • Any tires, including slicks, may be used.
  • Drivers may change their car from week to week, as long as they enter the same car for the entire week.
  • No regulation on driver aids.
  • The car must have a vertically opening rear tailgate (No station wagons though!). Above all else, the car must be classified as a hatchback in real life.
To enter:
  • Complete your best lap in Time Trial/Practice mode. Take a picture of your result at the end of the session. As long as it shows the car (in words), time and track it’s sufficient.
  • Submit your lap by sending the picture, along with the exact name you want to race as to gtmag@hotmail.com.
  • I will place your lap in the correct class and sort everything out from there.
Please note: The reason I'm keeping the submissions through e-mail is so as not to clutter up this thread. Especially since you’re bound to submit more than one time, as you improve. Feel free, though, to discuss lap times in here (as well as any queries you may have).

It's a cool idea 👍

One suggestion though, there is one car that might mean a subtle tweak of your rules. The HPA twin turbo R32 is available in the game, this is substantially faster than most of the other road going hatchbacks. You might want to amend the rules slighty so this car doesn't either have an advantage or becomes the obvious, or normal choice, for most people.

The HPA twin turbo has more power in standard tune than a fully modded R32, if people fully mod a HPA R32 it might just be too quick for everything else.

I haven't tested this, this is just a presumption after a quick, initial look at your rules. Also, I do not mean to be picky or pedantic, but I think the Intergrale is under 2.0ltrs CC, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm in and was just daydreaming about powering the HPA to victory.

Maybe, just for clarification, you could post a list of eligible cars for each division so everyone's clear about what's what.

Great, as I'm sure you'll agree, let's give this some time to attract more attention (hopefully). With any luck we'll be able to kick off soon.

Thanks, you're right on both counts! I've amended the rules accordingly:tup:

Would it not be better to save replays instead? Replays save all the data you need, and you can watch it to look for corner cutters, cheaters, etc.

I'd certainly be up for this if you'd have me as a newbie to the forum :P (thread stalker but only just signed up haha)

Okay, all the details are up for the 1st week. The new series has officially kicked off! Start submitting those times. Good luck and have fun!

Finally a good excuse for me to buy the V6 Clio :P always had a soft spot for that monster haha.

that or I hope the Renault 5 appears in UCD for me again!

Also, by Eiger Nordwand Normal you mean Eiger Nordwand Short right? i cant find any other version in practice mode =|

That's the one. I've made the info a little more specific, thanks.

Couple questions.. does the M Coupe count as a hatch? I'm speaking of the older, 1998 model. And five door hatches, like the Golf Mk IV count, just as long as it's not an estate/wagon right?
Will you be posting the times as they come in? I think that'd be really helpful to know if we should keep pushing for a faster time.

Basically, if the car is categorized as a hatchback IRL, then it's good to go. Unless it's a race car, of course. I've had a look around, and it seems that the BMW M-Coupe is firmly classified as a coupe, so it cannot be used unfortunately. Yes, cars like the Golf Mk IV are perfectly suitable.

I've posted the first submission, sent in earlier.

I would assume that the race car rule applies to the Lupo cup car?
I love driving that little bugger around

Well, yeah unfortunately it has to apply to the Lupo aswell. Although, if this Series does pick up, I'll probably consider a Class X, specifically for Race Hatchbacks.

Booo... Thanks for the response though. I'll dig something up and see what I can I can do. Thanks for setting this up.

I like your idea of maybe adding another class for race/tuner cars if this gets enough people.

I found a Peugeot 106 on the UCD, tuned it up and its going like a bat out of hell, i might have to push the V6 Clio to one side to give this one a blast xD

No problem, it's the first week, so feel free to change cars. Just let me know via e-mail, when you submit your first time.

The lancia delta is 1995cc

yes but would it come under the banned categories since its mostly a rally car?

its a bit like a Peugeot 205 Turbo I have in the garage, its the road going version of the 205 rallycar =| its even 4WD and massively turbocharged as stock!

The one at the new dealer should be legal under the rules as I understand it. The S4 with the Martini livery though, is not.
Same would go for the STi, it's legal, but the WRC version is not.

The stock Lancia Integrale is perfectly legal. Not so the S4 Rally Car. The series will take place on mostly tight, technical circuits that are more dependant on driver skill and handling. Therefore, the power advantage of cars like these will not impact the grid too badly. However, like I said before, if this attracts enough people, I'll definitely be adding a Open/Unlimited class next season.

Guys, please note that I've altered the rules. Cars with exactly 2.0l will now be in Class 1. I've realised that it simply isn't fair to have cars like the Integrale and the STi going up against cars like the Lupo and 500.

haha tight and twisty tracks, sounds good.

the speed of this Peugeot 106 is truely amazing so i think i'm going to go with that tbh. but i wont be able to submit a time till Monday... oh well!

this 850kg thing gets like 280hp when i stick a turbo in! haha!

so far at Eiger its around 1:10 after half a dozen laps and no setup with the 106, the V6 Clio has 1:05.7 ish so hmm.

I'm thinking you are going to end up creating a list of eligable cars for each class. Otherwise people are going to be completely on your case about what is acceptable and what is not.

Technically speaking the road going Integrale with its 1995cc engine is eligible to race in the slower class, but you are right, it would stomp all over most of those cars, especially when modded.

I look forward to this series. I like old hot hatchs from the 80's- 90's.
