Weekly Hot Hatch Series

I have to say, I'm struggling to understand how an underpowered FWD could compare to the 400bhp 4WD of the Peugeot without SRF. Once this week's competition is over it'd be good to see your replays, to see where you make the time up.

Still, I'm happy to accept that you're ahead - it gives me something to do this evening.

No idea how to upload a replay, I don't have a capture card, but I will be happy to show you if I work it out. I could always send the replay save if anyone has any doubts.
I might try go quicker tonight, I know there's more time but the throttle on the DS3 is such a pain, I don't know why they didn't make it more linear.

Good luck:)👍

I'm finished with this week now - have just spent 4 hours non-stop this evening - I've come out of the first sector as much as a second up on my previous best, but every time I did I messed up the second sector's corner.

My hand is bleeding (not much, but a little) from rubbing against the wheel during play.

Ouch! That's good point about the DS3.
I think the second sector corner is a weird one, you can take it so many ways and still be around the same speed, but then some times you think you took it the same as any other time and your way quicker! It's hard to know the perfect line for that corner.

Absolutely. I still don't know why I managed it better on my good lap, but I only managed to replicate it once or twice in hundreds of attempts. I would usually lose .2/.3 of a second against my ghost there. My fastest line certainly isn't the one I'd pick on paper, either.

The first sector is odd too - so many ways to come out of it in the same time. I've had laps where I've been careful and kept steady, and laps where I've been throwing it into corners and clipping walls here and there, and still tend to come out of it at the exact same time.

It's not so much about power on this track, if you spent enough time setting up the suspension and gearbox, you can make up a crap load of time. I had a problem with the minis brakes locking up on a couple corners, so I pushed the abs up to 3 and that dropped my lap time by about half a second.

As for the civic, it's quite capable if you can control the wheel spin.

And as for 4wd I find it harder to set them up, as you don't get enough traction on the front wheels around the corner (maybe it's just my driving style), I feel like front wheel drives pull your steering around the corners. yesterday I thought I'd try a class one car and I'm using the focus, after changing a couple settting I was getting 1:3.xxx and I recon I can go slightly faster :P

I think we can all agree that the first week has been an excellent success. Looking forward to your Week 2 performances!

Please note that you are allowed to change to a different car for the coming week. If you haven't entered the Series yet, you are more than welcome to do so.

Format: Position-Points-Time-Driver-Car

FYI: I moved the thread to the appropriate section.

I have put my 2 in to get started...

Class 1
Clio Renault Sport V6 24V '00
1.17.692

Class 2
Honda CR-Z '10
1.20.798

I'm having a blast with this...

Class 1 - Impreza WRX STi '07 - 1:15.821

Class 2 - 205 Turbo 16 '85 - 1:19.168

I'm not submitting them yet though, I'm sure there is more time to be found out there!

Is there a mix of wheel and pad users? I'm using a six-axis controller.

I just found a 205 turbo 16 in the UCD, it's heavier and it has less power than the civic, but it handles well.

Notice nobody has entered times yet - is this because we're all holding back until the last minute? I set a time on Sunday and while I could see improvement in it if I tried, without a set goal I think I'm going to just enter it as-is.

I've submitted my times - could just be the organiser has too much on to update. As much as it is a competition, it's more of a personal challenge as well, hence I sent in one relatively early on this week.

That's true, but personally I find it hard to push harder if I don't know there's definitely more time to be had. I liked having to come back to it a few times last week, to improve my time - the satisfaction at the end was immense. This week I've just driven until I set a lap I didn't beat within 10 more laps, and thought 'meh - good enough'.

Thought I'd hold off on this week in case someone else felt motivated by my time and set a better one, but it's not really been as enjoyable.

I didn't bother sending in times for this week as I suspected there was something wrong, when people were sending in times and the OP was not updated. I just did about 5 or 6 laps in each car and didn't really bother with anymore after that. Half the fun is having a goal to beat for me.

Let's keep it going amongst us then. Is someone wants to copy the idea or name a map for this week, I'd be well up for it.

Good morning all. Firstly, I apologise for making this announcement so late. It is with great regret that I say that I am unable to continue running the series. Right now, there is simply too much pressure from real life time constraints. Thank you very much for the support. I really don't mind if you keep up the competition amongst yourselves. Maybe I could even send in the occasional entry! Please PM me if you would like the password for the e-mail address (I created it specifically for the series). Again, I apologise for announcing this so late, and I am sorry for letting you down.

P.S I've edited the OP in such a way that one of you guys can announce a new track every week.

If we call week two off, would everyone like to keep going? I know i would. I'd be happy to help "run" it, but it would be good if it could be a group effort too.
