That's the car I picked...and sometimes others find something quicker so there is a separate prize if you take the car i picked and get it faster than me. Shouldn't be too difficult to get a better time. I know I left at least 1-2 seconds on the track, which means there is probably 5-10 seconds to be had with the right setup. I may take another crack at it once I see some more times on the board.

I tried...but i just can't do dirt courses without banging into walls or spinning out...it's fun to play online though...one time me and about 6 friends did the Trans Cams on dirt, it was very funny lol...it was like a demolition derby

I'm hating the PSN being down but I'm loving these kinds of threads showing how people are getting so creative! When everybody complains about there "not being enough to do in the game" this is the kind of stuff that pops into my mind. If you have a good imagination and truly enjoy driving then there are all kinds of things like this you can do in GT5. The network outage has brought our creative juices to the fore-front! 👍

Sounds like fun. Could be called the Dukes of Hazard Challenge. I'll give a try this afternoon (I'm bored too).

Demolition Derby was basically my scheduled event for last week (until the PSN outage). I have some tri-oval courses ready to go but I wanted to spend some time dialing things in. I really don't know where to begin when it comes to tuning for the dirt. I stole the damper/rollbar settings from the rally cars in the game. They all have high compression and rollbar settings so I figured it would be safe to use them.

The LSD I think is the secret to fast times. Locking it up like I did has its pros and cons. it is great for powering out of sharp turns because it reduces the oversteer. However it induces understeer on the sweeping turns. The one thing I found must be avoided is drifting at high speeds. Too much angle on the car causes the front tires to act as brakes and the rear end just spins around. You cannot power out of a slide with the throttle like you can in an AWD rally car.

OMG, I love that. If you don't mind, I'm going to change it to that name! 👍

Hmm, I may have to pick up a Charger though and make that the founder's car.

Permission granted! 👍 I just wish I had a Black Trans Am to powerslide...

If we get a strong following, I can make this weekly with different tracks. I just made the special reward for the Charger instead of the Camaro. I'll run some laps with the Charger tonight if I have it and/or find it in the UCD.

The reason I put separate rewards for one lap vs 3 laps is that I found it very difficult to lay down consistent laps. It took me an hour to get these laps in succession but during that time my lap times dropped from low 2s to high 1s. It can get tiresome with a force feedback wheel though.

I have a Charger, and I painted it orange just like The General. Huge Duke's fan here, I grew up on that and Knight Rider!

If PSN ever comes back online, I will gift the prize car to the winners. They will pick the model and color (provided it is under the award value) and i will send it to them.

Ah I see. I'll give it a crack, i've got a slightly modded Charger I could use (the General Lee was modified!) For some reason it handles better on grass than tarmac :)

Just make sure you dial it back to 500pp or less by removing any parts that might put you over.

I´m a bit confused.I thought tuner cars are not allowed ( suspension, lsd , tranny ?).
Only Power add/reduce ,weight reduce to meet the 500 PP.

To be clear: With Power add I mean only a oilchange ;)

The tuner specific cars are not allowed. That includes the following
Grand Touring Garage - 1970 Ford Mustang Trans-Cammer
Shelby - GT350R '65
Art Morrison - Corvette'60

These cars are a) too light and b) better tuned than the other options even when parts are added. It is clear from other racing series that tuner garage cars have a slight edge even when placed at the same performance points.

So to be clear, you can install any parts on the models listed in the OP as long as the performance points do not exceed 500 and the weight does not drop below 1400kg. The weight restriction again is there to keep things fair among different cars.

Looks fun, i might try this. I think the shelby mustang should be involved somewhere though, because the 00 (double nought) car that beat the general Lee was a shelby mustang.

This sounds like fun. I have an orange charger even. I made it for regular muscle car night.

One question though, why no ballast? I know one of my muscle cars was just under, so I added like 15kg to get it there.

Had a quick try with a stock (uhmmm.. nearly stock , power was limited to 92.7% , dunno why , maybe online limit I used the car and didn´t changed it back) "CUDA 440" 355bhp , 1576 kg , 469 PP and did a 2:06.xxx.
Car is nice to drive but lacks a bit acceleration.

I want part of the challenge to be learning to drive these cars as they were built. Tossing Uncle Jesse in the trunk to increase rear traction defeats the purpose of driving a classic muscle car in the first place.

If you want to drive the Mustang, be my guest, but i won't include it on the leaderboard. Perhaps the reason it beat the General Lee is that it weighs 400kg less...but i'm not sure what you are talking about. Was that an episode I missed?

Anyway, this isn't so much about picking the right car as it is about learning to drive it. Unless one of these cars turns out to be magic, it is going to be a driver's challenge no matter what car you pick.

After J. Chan is done grinding dream car for me, i'm hittin up the dodge dealer and buying a Challenger, just 'cause I like it! :sly:
Very cool idea, gonna be fun to try out!
BTW someone should try a blue Shelby GT350, make it the General's main race rival, the 'Double Zero Mustang'!

If I remember correctly, the General Lee was originally purchased to be entered in a NASCAR race? I know Bo and Luke went away to race in NASCAR for a while when Coy and Vance :( took their place. They came back though. :)

I had a go and the best I could do with a 500pp, 1410kg GTO was 2.02.xxx

I was a little disappointed, but then again I haven't rallied since the driving challenges...
