Motor City Hamiltons Rally and Street Tuner Challenge
Rally cars are so ignored in Gran Turismo 5. It is time to dig the rally cars out from the backs of our garages, give them a bath and put them to work in this months F.I.T.T. Tuner Challenge. Rally cars sounded fun to me, but then I started thinking about the core of the rally car. Rally cars start life as production street versions and are built into the wild dirt/snow going machines that get raced. So why not tune both; a rally car of your choosing and the street version from which it was born. For this event, tuners must choose a pairing of cars from the list below. You must use the rally car and the street version, no mixing and matching no Subaru rally car and a Ford Focus street car. For a few of the rally cars in GT5 there is not the equivalent street version available. These cars will not be allowed in the competition.
Tracks: For this challenge we will be heading to Mount Eiger in the Bernese Alps in Switzerland. The Nordwand, German for "north wall" or "north face," is the spectacular north (or, more precisely, northwest) face of the Eiger. The Eiger racing circuits featured in GT5 are fictional, but give PD credit for their imagination. The elevation changes for the dirt trails will provide quite a challenge for both tuners and testers. I will post a track tutorial for those who havent driven the dirt trails before. We will use two tracks at Eiger; the dirt Nordwand G Trail Reverse and the tarmac Nordwand Short Track.
Eiger Nordwand G Trail Reverse Dirt 2.25 miles for rally cars.
Eiger Nordwand Short Track Tarmac 1.5 miles for street cars.

Tuning:
Rally cars will tune to 500 PP, dirt tires, power limiter restricted to 75% and open use of ballast.
Street cars will tune to 450 PP, sport hard tires, power limiter restricted to 85% and open use of ballast.
All cars must have a full engine break in of 200 miles (322 kilometers).
Cars are not required to have a fresh oil change, engine rebuild or a car wash.
I have built all of the eligible cars and believe that they will all fit within the PP levels and the power limiter restrictions. A handful of cars may require use of ballast or a reduction in down force to get down to the PP level. The PP levels were chosen in an effort to make all car choices competitive. Only three cars are unable to achieve the PP levels. First is the Lancer 1600 GSR Rally car 74 as it can only achieve 481 PP. The others are the Nissan Bluebird Rally Car (510) 69 at 406 PP and the Bluebird 1600 Deluxe (510) 69 at 434 PP. There will be a special incentive offered to encourage the brave among us to choose these lower PP cars (see scoring bonus points).
Scoring:
I will score this event on four elements; rally lap time, street lap time, drivers choice and bonus points. This is going to sound complicated at first, but it will make for a very close competition. Achieving only the fastest lap times may not win this competition. Drivers choice and bonus point should make this very competitive.
Fastest lap calculations rally: Tunes will be able to earn a maximum of 100 points from their rally times. The tune with the fastest average lap time across all testers will earn 100 points. All other tunes will earn their score based upon how close their average lap time is to the fastest tune. For example, if the fastest tune earned the average lap time of 1:21.688 and the 2nd fastest tune equates to 1:21.832, the 2nd place tune receives 99.9 points (121.688 divided by 121.832 = 99.9). Another example, if the fastest tune earned the average lap time of 1:21.688 and the slowest tune equates to 1:27.271, the slowest tune receives 95.6 points (121.688 divided by 127.271 = 95.6). This method of scoring rewards tunes for being very close to the front and will keep the lap time portion of the competition very close. Drivers choice and bonus points can make a big difference. See the scoring example below for additional understanding.
Fastest lap calculations street: Same scoring system as for rally.
Drivers choice: Each tester will choose their top three drivers choice tunes. Drivers choice rankings should be based on how much you enjoyed driving the tune. Drivers choice scores will be averaged across testers then added to the track lap time scores. Drivers choice will apply individually to rally cars and street cars. In other words, there will be a top three selection for each track.
Photo mode: This will be winner take all. A photo voting thread will be opened to the GT Planet community. Each tuner can submit one photo. The winner of the photo poll will earn 1 bonus point.
The Clueless Rule: As an incentive to enter the older or below PP car pairings, I have created the Clueless Rule. Enter the Nissan 69 Bluebirds or the Lancer 1600 GSR '74s and get an automatic two bonus points for being that crazy. The only way to make these two cars competitive in this challenge is to make it worth taking the risk. Four other car pairings will also present a tough tuning challenge so these four will receive one bonus point from the start; Lancia Stratos Rally/Stratos 73, Mitsubishi Starion/Lancer EX 1800, Nissan 240RS/Silvia 240RS and the Renault 5 Maxi/5 Turbo 80.
Car Sharing:
All Tuners are responsible for placing their car on share as written up in their tune, or making arrangements with one of the F.I.T.T. car hosts to place it on share. Friend requests are the responsibility of the tuners.
Testers:
Volunteers - Anyone can volunteer as a test driver. For all volunteer test drivers (non-tuners), you will receive any car under one million credits, five paints and five museum cars.
Tuner/Tester As GT5 has become a mature game, volunteer test drivers have diminished. In an effort to increase the number of testers, all tuners must also either test drive or find a fill-in test driver to drive for them. If a tuner (or tuner substitute) does not submit testing results by the deadline, their tune will be removed from the final results. Depending upon the number of entries, I will try to keep testing to around seven (between 5 and 10 cars to test). I have also chosen shorter tracks to keep tester time down.
Tester skills assessment For the points system to work with only one round of testing, it is important to have an accurate rank of test driver skill. Test drivers will be placed into two (or more) groups, each with equal distribution of good drivers and elite drivers. Each tester will need to run a minimum of five laps in Arcade mode on each of the tracks in the competition and submit a fast lap time for each. Please use the car from Arcade mode (no tuning) and not a tune from your garage. Send a PM to me with your lap times.
Eiger Nordwand G Trail Reverse Ford Focus RS WRC 07
Eiger Nordwand Short Track Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione '91
Test Settings - Offline in A-Spec Free Run, TCS off, Skid Force Recovery off, ASM off, ABS 1, tire wear/fuel consumption off, grip reduction low, mechanical damage none.
Results - Test Drivers results should all be placed in one post here with notifications posted when that results are updated. All Test Drivers must submit the fastest lap time for each car/track combination and a Drivers Choice ranking for all cars in each group they test.
