A SNAIL Sanctioned event - Open to all

Welcome to the DriveTrain Challenge (DTC). We are a tuning prohibited event that requires all participants to use four different drivetrains and uses the Performance Point system in Gran Turismo as a limiter on the nights racing.

Here is how it works.

Each week a PP Limit is chosen. This weeks PP limit can be found by clicking on the Calendar image above.

You must choose 4 cars that the total combined PP value does not exceed the limit for the event. Each car can only be used in one race. Additionally you must use 1 of each of the following drivetrains in your lineup:

FF- Front Engined/Front Wheel Drive
4WD - 4 Wheel Drive (any engine position)
FR - Front Engined/Rear Wheel Drive
MR/RR - Mid Engine(or Rear Engined)/Rear Wheel Drive

When Calculating the PP total the value is for a un-tuned, non power limited car with an oil change. This is what is referred to as the Known PP* value for the car. The list of Known PP values can be found by clicking on the car image above.

The Event
Qualifying and the first race take place at a track chosen by last weeks runner up. This weeks qualifying track can be found by clicking on the Calendar image above.

The next three races will take place at tracks chosen by the winner of the previous race. The winner can pick from the eligible track list that can be found by clicking on the track image above. Additionally the list is broken up in to three groups. Each group can only have one track chosen from it in a nights event.

Additional rules and guidelines can be found here.

Thats it. I hope you come give it a try!

Joby

*Some cars have a modified PP Please refer to this list for more details.

This Series will be run using the Rules laid out by S.N.A.I.L. For anyone unfamiliar those rules please see the below info.

We expect all drivers to follow our OLR Rules at all times. If you're not sure what good racecraft is, watch this video. It can be summed up in one simple 'Golden Rule' of motorsports: It is the responsibility of the overtaking driver, meaning the car that is attempting to execute the pass, to make sure that the pass is made cleanly and incident free. If you don't agree with this rule or don't think it applies to you, this is not the league for you.

You can add me with my list of cars as for 02/18:

Here is my tentative car line up:
FF - VW Beetle Cup Car '00 424 PP
FR - Merc 190 E 2.5 - 16 Evolution '91 361 PP
MR - Lancia Statos '73 408 PP
4WD - Audi Quattro '82 (UrQuattro) 404 PP
Total 1597 PP

I can be back up host and the photo historian

I can help with the PP validation process. Since I restarted my account, I am only purchasing used cars with under 9k KM on them and rebuilding everything so the PP should be at it's maximum on all of my cars. I will be happy to share the numbers with you.

I do have a question though. What range should I look up and post? Is it necessary to post the PP of cars up to 550 or should I stop around 480 or so? I will start with what I have between 320 and 480 and if you need more let me know.

Thanks for offering to help. Will you be interested in participating on track? I feel most cars run will be in the 370-430 range. But there is nothing stoping someone from running a 240pp Honda Life Bus and then a RM NSX at 499pp;)

I think that 500pp should cover 99.9% of the time. Don't expect to see anything higher than this.

I've always been the kind to throw down the nuke, and assure myself a victory at first, even to just get on that board. So I wouldn't put it past me to run a GT500 or better car at somewhere like Spa or Daytona where there's a serious chance to pull away and cruise to 1st.

Just saying' ;)

By all means you can do that. However there is no prize for coming in first in one race. To win you must have the most points for the entire night. That is where the strategy comes in:)

…but you do get bonus points for setting the pole…

I assume we can use the same cars as other people? If not then a draft would be required. It's not really "fair" to have a first come first served basis here.

Also, I have to advocate for using sports tires on everything (even race cars) otherwise somebody who can sneak in a bunch of race cars will have a distinct advantage.

With that in mind, here's my *tentative* lineup:
Spoon Fit Race Car '03 (FF) 368PP on MyGT
Honda S800 Race Car '68 (FR) 380PP on MyGT
Renault Sport Clio Renault Sport Trophy Race Car '00 (MR) 480PP on MyGT
Daihatsu Sirion X4 (J) '00 (4WD) 363PP on MyGT
Total: 1591

I'll have to double-check the numbers on my game at some point. I have a feeling, for instance, that the Spoon on my game is about 374. Speaking of which, I CAN help verify numbers.

Wolf, have you improved your internet connection? I would be weary of making you a host, otherwise.

I knew someone would give that a go. This will be a test. I have no problem with someone doing this and run them on Racing Hard this week.

As for being unique. I hope that people do make a point of using cars that no one else does. While at this point it is not a requirement it is encouraged.

I feel that someone listing their cars is not getting an advantage. On the contrary they are showing there hand. That gives everyone a chance to adjust their lineup accordingly.

I figure we should probably say that you can not repeat a lineup you have used. That way you must always be adjusting the lineup.

I am also hesitant for Wolf or I to host. So hopefully we will get some volunteers with A+ speeds.

-edit- Ap, A quick look through my garage shows a bit of a discrepancy in the PP's you listed. I show your total as being 1616. I did a lot of looking through the cars and to get even 2 race cars means you will be taking a big hit on the other two cars.

I will race when I am availiable. The 18th doesn't work for me as I have youth basketball that night (when you're the president, you don't get to miss anything). That season and my term as president will be ending March 8th so my evenings will free up considerably after that and I will be able to participate in later events.

Should I just post what I have for numbers or should I PM them to you Joby?

PM is great. Thanks for doing that:)

I thought that things were going to be a secret until race day, then I saw people listing their cars so I thought that was the norm… As for repeats, there are certain cars out there that are obviously misrepresented by their PP. Giving one person (whoever calls it first, I guess) that car when we're not doing something somewhat "fair" like a draft is putting those others at a clear disadvantage.

I figured there would be. Like I said, I took these numbers from MyGT and will look at my real ones later. I wasn't married to the Sirion, anyway. ;) Looks like I may be the man in the minivan.

We had better remember to set the finish delay to max.

Tentative line up - total PP of 1600

FF - Renault Megane 2.0 IDE Coupe '00 (372PP with 1,400 miles)
FR - Nismo GT-R LM Road Going Version '95 (418PP with 24 miles)
MR/RR - Toyota MR2 1600G '86 (356PP with 54,000 miles)
4WD - Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo '95 (454PP with 8,600 miles)

They're all standards and have had their oil changed.

Edit; dang, I see joby has the MR2 as well. I might need a rethink during the week then

Glad to see that we are getting some momentum.

One of the Lancias with 20K is at 404PP after oil change and does not let me rebuilt the engine.
The current Lancia at 408PP with 44K gets up to 415PP if I rebuild the engine; have not done so.

No gain with the Merc - Evo at 361 PP even after rebuild with 19K miles.
No gain with VW Beetle Cup Car at 424 pp after rebuild with 1,700 miles.
No gain with Audi Quattro '82 at 404PP after rebuild with 36K miles.
........................................................................................................
Merc SL 500(R129) '98 currently at 382PP after oil change; 389PP after engine rebuild with 15K miles.
Opel Speedster Turbo - current at 420PP after oil change; 428PP after engine rebuild with 20K miles.

OK I finally found the post the details PP. Engine break-in, wear, overhaul, and oil change.

It is a long read but basically it boils down to this:

Oil Stays fresh for 200km then starts to cause a PP drop
An Engine Overhaul last 5000km then starts to cause a PP drop
An Engine lasts 15000km then starts to cause a PP drop. Once an engine passes 15,000km an Overhaul will not return it to the max HP. The Max HP (and thus PP) of an engine will slowly deteriorate with added miles.

So if you want to figure out the Maximum PP of a car it must have less than 15,000km, have an engine overhaul and clean oil.

So for you wolf the Merc, Lancia and Audi will not be at there max. However I have checked my Merc has 4,000 mile and also has a PP of 361 so the drop is a slow one. My Lancia is a 200 mile example so I know that PP is accurate at 417.

At this point I do not want people to fret too much about this. Once we compile a list we will be a bit more strict. Until then just take in to account the mileage of the car when factoring your PP. If the Mileage is over 15,000km just assume yours may actually be down a few PP.

Tez, feel free to run the MR2. After this weeks races we can let people vote on whether cars should be unique:)

-edit-
Wolf. I just sent you a 0 mile Audi Quattro. It was bought from the OCD so does not need breaking in. It has fresh oil and a PP of 406. I also have a 0 mile not bought from the OCD Quattro with fresh oil and it shows 401PP. With break in that one will show 406 also.

Revamp!

With that in mind, here's my *tentative* lineup:
Spoon Fit Race Car '03 (FF) 374PP (437 miles)
Honda S800 Race Car '68 (FR) 380PP on MyGT – this is probably close to accurate. Mine has 375PP but only 4.3 miles. This was a prize car, I believe.
Renault Sport Clio Renault Sport Trophy Race Car '00 (MR) 487PP (Previously broken in for SNAIL)
Daihatsu Move Custom RS Limited '02 (4WD) 294PP (19,989 miles)
Total: 1598

Cool I think:confused:

That means your total PP is 1540 but hey if it works for you.

Two notes. The S800 maxes out at 383 (I have a 0 Mile OCD with oil change) and my Spoon with 7xx miles and clean oil shows 376. Are you sure you want to leave 60PP on the table? When Wolf and I raced the other night drGreen was in with us an he raced the Dodge SR4 Neon on 420PP on comfort soft and he gave us a run for our money he beat me in my Civic Racecar and only barely got beat buy Wolf in the VW Beetle Cup and we had Racing hard tires:crazy:

Regardless I am looking forward to this:) I will try to spread the word during Wankel Monday which I should be able to take part in at least some of it.

Whoa. I'm apparently bad at math. I guess I can pick something quicker than the Move.

sheesh

Edit: I'll bet I added one car's miles instead of its PP. I guess I'll replace the Daihatsu with the:

Suzuki Alto Works RS-Z '97. Mine shows 332 but 47k miles.

Meh. I'll probably change my mind by race night, anyway. ;)

.

that was Dr.Greenthumb not DFGA...

Quick question, how many days before race day should we commit our car line up? I think I am going to need to tweak my line up a little bit.

On another note, I guess this series has already taught me that I should not buy cars with more than 15K or so miles in them. 👍

At this point you it is up to you whether you want to post your lineup before hand. I think it is fun seeing the lineups. We can discuss what everyone would like to do next Monday.

Yea getting the PP right is hard. On a positive note I have been trying to get low mileage examples of cars do if you need a car or just the PP value let me know.
