Yesterday afternoon I jotted down everyone's best lap at Laguna and the car they were in from Monday's race. I was able to match or beat the lap in offline practice (so add maybe a second or two for being in the online lounge) when running the same car as them. I am getting a few things nailed down that is making me faster, I now need to work on consistency and racecraft to improve.

This afternoon I'll be on after work and I am going to run a few cars in the 500pp range at some of our tracks with different compounds. I will post what my best times are and you guys can judge if the compounds make it closer. I was thinking of using the NSX RM, RUF RGT and Trial Celica since they are overdogs that seem to be used a lot. I'll test a few more too.

Stop practicing off line. Just got into your own lounge and set the room up with the same settings we race with. There is just enough of a difference between offline and online that you won't be able to build any consistency if you do your practicing offline.

Handlebar,
I have been thinking about our in-game conversations in the past as well as reviewing replays. Early on it was suggested that the bottom finishers get more PP to work with...but you said you didn't need a faster car, you needed more grip. +1 tires apparently was not enough...then I propose trying +6 tire points to use however you want. And you offer a snarky response.

I understand your frustration. I suggest +2 tires. The problem, from watching replays, is spininning or going off track due to a loss of control. Usually after this happened once or twice, the common thing was to bail or pull off track.

Consistency and staying on track will give higher finishes. This can be obtained by having more grip and turning on Aids. I have a feeling that the purists, like yourself, would not use Aids. So we are back to grip.

How about just a general +2 tires all the time? Or +3? I know Koszak has been frustrated too but I don't think he has tried using anything to give him a leg up. Koszak should try a +1 tire just to help stay consistent.

The common theme, I will reiterate, is staying on the track and running laps. Will more power help, more grip or Aids? Aids being used, while it may keep you on the track, will render slower lap times because it takes away horsepower from the car.

I'm kinda done talking now...I put forth some ideas. I will await the decisions of THE DUDE, JobyOne :)

I did some testing using the same line up I had last week and found at +1 I was still running similar lap times, maybe .3 faster, but they were more consistent and didn't waiver as much. I like the idea. Of having +2/+3 for the night and having to do one race on the same tires. I like grip..

The Dude is not happy (more on that later).

As for the tires. I do think giving more grip is key. However here is my one issue that I know someone else briefly mentioned (not sure who) the braking. Since many of our racers are so used to doing spec races where braking is the same for all the cars I fear that the people on +1 tires are not taking full advantage of the additional braking. Since the SNAIL leagues work hard to prevent dive bombing are people on +1 tires being hesitant to out brake people?

I'm uncomfortable trying to out break unless I know for a fact I can completely clear the car in front. Coming from someone who is all ways in the back I would use the +1 tires just to follow the fast guys around to learn line, braking points, etc.

^ I'm with Fox. I would use a softer tire to hang with the leaders, not ruin their race.

Thanks for the tip Bowler. I'll be on around 4pm today, so if anyone wants to practice I can use D3.

Edit:
Twin Ring Road Course

When it was a choice of Grip or PP, I still think Grip is better, if the only entertained theory is A or B.

Having tried +4 tires for four races, and then coming in 30+ seconds behind the same model car, or even a much lower PP car, who was running worse tires... I had thought other ideas worth considering and tried to contribute to a conversation of ideas.

My 'snarkiness' as you put it, came from frustration. To be equally on point, I thought your previous responses to the ideas that others, including myself, suggested to some situations was similar to my post, if not more snarky and dismissive, than what seems to have offended you in my post. Going forward, I will try to avoid following that path. Please join me.

I do appreciate your suggestion of more grip. Others have noted a change of +1-2 seconds per lap depending on compound, track, car, etc. I will see if it makes much difference at some point.

School should settle in after next week, I may have some time then.

I have never been snarky in this tbread that I am aware of. This series is fun for me and I definitely care about how this series is perceived. I was reluctant to call you out because I do not want negativity in this thread...unlike the main thread.

I am not the guy who runs this joint...I just host the room and do the scoring. I only try to steer us towards simple solutions...unlike the crazy formulas used in the Sunday series. The old team series was packed full of rules as was the parity series.

When people start mentioning adding formulas for PP handicaps depending on previous weeks finish or tire/PP formulas it just scares thd crap out of my simple mind. It may also keep new people from joining.

My suggestions are just that. And I will always try to keep it simple.

If I sounded snarky or dismissive in this thread then it was not my intention. This series is about fun. If I ever sound snarky or dismissive in tbe Sunday thread then it is probably intentional...

Sorry I got distracted after running that first car yesterday, but I did wind up winning my first ever shuffle race against at least 13 other cars last night. The race was at Daytona Road, which I recall us running at almost every race early in this series and I even saved the replay.

Why isn't "the dude" happy? As for Joe and Handlebar, I didn't mean to start anything in this thread, I simply felt that I was in the way of the faster drivers and needed some time to get better on my own before rejoining the group.

In my opinion, the only feasible handicap we could apply would be a softer compound tire. I used to use a +20pp handicap, so I really only had +5pp over anyone in a particular race. My goal is to not use anything, so when I come back I am expecting to not need better tires or more pp.

I am not 'unhappy,' as far as I am concerned. Joe and I both said what we thought, and that's that. No additional drama was meant, I think, by either Joe or myself.

Just got home from a soccer tourney in DC, and once my allergy relief kicks in from the hellacious ragweed around here, I will be running some practice, both for Sunday Combos, and for general Cap Racing. I can't run this Monday, but I am hopeful of returning after Back To School Night duties.

For my birthday present, my brother in law gave me two tickets to a Rays game Monday night so I will miss the race unfortunately.

As always...Ken has the keys to my garage :)

I am in the same position. I will not be on Monday night as I will be at the rays game also.. New gf bought them for me tho..

Long story short is my commitments have changed and I will no longer be able to race Monday nights:(

Looks like the only night I will be able to run will be Tuesday. I might try to run a sprint/practice session Tuesday while open wheel racing is on hold and before the oval racing unless anyone objects.

I will keep doing everything going as normal. I will try to post the new tire/ handicap regs in a few days.

I would like to Start a Trans Am series but there is no free day.

I just realized I never updated the post for his weeks race. Should take about 5 to 10 minutes:)
