Suzuka International Racing Course, Suzuka Circuit for short, is a motorsport race track located in Ion, Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, Japan. Suzuka is believed to be among the most challenging and dangerous circuits in the world, having claimed the lives of 17 drivers and riders in it’s 48 year history. It is one of the most pain in the neck circuits in GT6, it is 5.8 Km (3.6mi) long and has 17 turns. Designed as a Honda test track in 1962 by Dutchman John “hans” Hugenholtz, Suzuka is one of the few circuits in the world to have a “figure 8” layout, with the 1.2Km back straight passing over the front section by means of an overpass.
Suzuka is made up of 3 sectors:
Sector one is the most technical and has 9 corners to navigate!
Sector two has the slowest corner (the hairpin), and two of the highest speed corners on the track.
Sector three has the only chicane and the most deadliest corner on the track.
SECTOR 1
Pit Straight
Race down the long straight away and prepare to brake!
First Curve (turns 1 & 2)
simple enough, just brake and turn in, watch you speed entering or you will find yourself drifting wide on exit of one or both turns! Just slow down and roll the car through this section and onto the short straight.
Essex or Snake curves (turns 3, 4 & 5)
Find your rhythm here and you will be rewarded with a fast lap, bang off of the curves or run wide and watch you competition run past you. Turn 3 leads directly into 4 so you must get your turn in and exit set up early on to make it through to the easy turn 5 leading uphill into 6.
Gyaku Bank (turn 6)
This funny named turn goes over the rise and will send you car wide if you do not slow down. It is very tight and off camber, be careful not to run wide or you will spin out here.
Dunlop Curve (turn 7)
the strange curve is actually a double apex that seams unusually long in nature to get through, the entry is slow, tight and uphill but opens out so nail the entry apex and let the car accelerate out into the next turn.
Denger (turn 8)
This crazy tight fast right hander will catch many out. The approach speed is impossibly quick in any car, break, downshift and turn in are all early in this turn. Get it right or suffer the sand trap or spin out into the grass!
Turn 9 (no name)
after a short straight this corner is fairly easy just break and turn in. Don’t run wide or you will end up in the sand or worse you will spin out into the wall!
SECTOR 2
Turn 10 (Bend?)
This long narrow right kink before the Hairpin is known as turn 10. Fast and off camber leading into turn 11, get this wrong while breaking and you will be in the grass faster than you can say oh $&#* !
Hairpin (tun 11)
Break and slow down you car before turning in sharply into this fairly wide 180° left hander. Be careful not to carry too much speed into it, the corner tightens on exit and if you enter to fast you will have to wait until your car is pointed in the right direction before accelerating out of it. Stay off of the inside/outside curb and grass or you will end up doing a very fast spin!
200R (turn 12)
This is an extremely fast long long never-ending right hander that goes first downhill then uphill. The turn eventually tightens on exit so get you passing done early or you will be banging door handles down the next straight.
Spoon (turn 13)
This corner is one of the most technical on the track, it is a constricting double apex curve. You will be approaching this corner at high speed. Brake early and turn the car in hugging the inside curb (don’t touch it!) and do not let your car run wide on exit so you can set it up for the next tight Left apex on exit of Spoon to get a good launch down the long back stretch.
SECTOR 3
130 R (turn 14)
The most dangerous corner on the track. Believe it or not it is a double apex with two radii put together (a 85m/279ft and a 340m/1115ft radius) leading into the chicane. This high speed left turn is more like a flick in and hang onto the exit corner. Watch your entry speed and downshift and lift if you must, just don’t run wide or you will spin out on the grass or kiss the outside wall at high speed.
Casino Triangle (turns 15, 16 & 17)
This trio of corners leads onto the main straightaway and getting a good exit here is crucial to a good lap time. Brake hard into the chicane flick the car right then immediately flick it left and set up the final downhill right hander then on to the straightaway. Accelerate onto the finish line, there you made it around Suzuka!
