◆ SNAIL [Pack] Racing - Boost Racing - Where the excitement never ends!

I got DC's midrace so I just called it a night. Frickin ridiculous the amount of money I spend on "upgraded" internet and I still can't enjoy this stuff

Gentlemen....there has been an increased ammount of terminally stupid maneuvers viewed recently. We are supposed to be having fun..but apparently some of you really do not GET IT. We DO NOT keep score and really do not give a hoot who wins...so use this as passing 101...not a place to bull your way through ot try stupidly insane moves.

I have recieved two pms this weeks about the fun level decreasing as agressive no hoper attempts to pass have been increasing. Please chill thy jets....or proper action will be taken.

Here is a redacted message of the type I recieved.

Hi Nail, first off, Monday night is one of the best groups to race with, but lately I have noticed a lot of aggressive driving, guys taking advantage of this easy going series....I've worked really hard to have more patience and had to catch my self tonight from driving mad, this is supposed to be fun.
I'll send u the replay .....we all need a reminder on thread that we need to race clean and respect everyone's different skill levels, including aggressive blocking. Thx Nail wished u raced with us tonight.

Well...I liked the bit about missing me and loving the series....the rest not so much.

Chill please.

What did you guys think of the shade of blue I was using compared to the usual? Is it too dark and blends with the others are does it still pop enough so you know it's me?

I race 'colour blind' in this series for the most part, not so much in real racing, but if I see a few cars in my mirrors during a heated battle I could really care less as to who it is based off of the colour. That's just me though. I know Ned likes to use the colours to differentiate people so he knows who's coming up on him (or who he's leaving behind)

I was thinking more for when I'm in front of someone since you can see it better. I agree the rear view is not big enough to really tell who it is, that's why I use the driver's list on the right to get a quick idea of who I'm driving around.

For what it's worth:

I do not know what goes on behind the scenes so I can only look at what I see, which is a generalized reminder of the core values the league holds. This is solid and and necessary, but I also see that there is a possibility that management has been provided replays which may showcase said "terminally stupid maneuvers". Now I can't speak for everybody but if I am a guilty party then I think it would be helpful to know precisely what that/those maneuvers were. If a driver needs to work on something it would be helpful if they knew what that something was. That's all.

This is not Nazi Germany...there is no THEM....the people who contantly abuse the flavor of the series know who they are...you will know it wasn't you if it wasn't you. This is a general trend. We have lost good members who felt that it was no longer Fun. Consider this as a general wake up call. You are racing with your best friends...treat them that way.

Instead of "practicing door-to-door racing" within the Snail Code of Conduct, if you will, Monday nights have turned into "Monday Bumper Cars". Remember those County Fair rides? Where you bang into others, knock them out of the way, and then go look for someone else to bang into? Some folks are so intent in being first that they forget why the event was scheduled and advertised.

Disclaimer: I am also guilty of "less than stellar conduct". So let's set aside the "you did it too" comments.

My intent in offering an opinion:
To also speak up and try to regain the initial goal on Monday Nights - Drive close to other cars, in a racing environment, and learn how to pass cleanly having anticipated, planned and waited for the right moment to execute the pass. It also provides us the opportunities to maintain door-to-door practice thru tight corners without making errors.

The best feature of Monday night is that if a mistake is made, and a driver goes off track, the Boost is being used to draw that driver back into the group of cars to "try it again". Also, since everyone knows and understands that we are there to observe, learn, and practice - all drivers are aware that mistakes will happen.

Maybe we should consider a new approach:
How about the personal concept of "voluntarily", once a driver has achieved P-1, to stay there no more than one lap. Then moving to the side, at a convenient "wide spot in the road", and go to the back?
Of course there will be "What if this? What if that?" - each driver figure that out for himself/herself.
Working back up thru the pack is the best practice - so make use of those opportunities provided on Monday Nights.

I like this and have noticed some others doing it as well. It's fun to get to the front but once you do then what's the point? You're not learning anything. Slow down and try to do it again!

I like it... Not necessarily specific to the leader, But the concept of treating it more like a learning tool rather than a race.

Not always true. I know (because I've heard some say it) some guys enjoy the challenge of learning how to hold off a faster driver. With the boost on, it's more realistic at the front of the pack where the boost affect is lessened.

Part of this series also teaches how to fend off other drivers in a legal and clean manner. Once I get up to the front, I plan to stay there unless I'm considerably slower than those who are chasing me. In which case I let them by and tuck in behind them to learn the lines. While you might be on to something with falling back and trying to catch up, there is the flip side of it in staying calm and fending off the ravenous pack of snarling miatas behind you.

I try to defend as best I can but I notice I can't hold them all off and usually the higher Division guys get ahead first. I accept that and don't fight too hard. Then I go back and have fun with Lobban or someone because I know we can go back and forth a lot.

I like the idea of the leader going to the back after a lap up front. Truth be told, I am having more fun back there. I don't care where I finish unless I am in first, then I will fight tooth and nail to keep it.
We all get bumped around a bit, how can you avoid it? In this type of close racing, there is bound to be some contact. I hope I am not that guy who has to bash someone to win. Side by side racing is hard, but it can be done, I had some great battles the other night. This is the most fun series in Snail, so let's keep it that way.

Ok guys....when Tex says we have lost our way....we indeed have lost our way.
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER....

Everybody...if you know someone who is being too pushy or who seems too intent on winning...pm them and chat about it.

I do not want to import some Stewards to "Bring order". Lets go back to the part where this is fun.... We have forgotten why we do this...

As a last resort we will make this a "by invitation only" series....and some of you would not be invited at this moment. I have checked with Jordan and he has no problem with this.

As the Germans would say....you WILL have fun....OR ELSE.

Edit:This is the toned down version of my rant. Drive nicely unless you want to see the unredacted version.

One thing I noticed last week was almost no talking during the race. I know most of us have mics. You can have them on in Pack Racing and it really helps to be the spotter for the guy you're trying to overtake, letting him know where you are and vice versa. It's a great tool that we can utilize for cleaner racing.

Great catch...if someone is doing you wrong the favorite comment is Really????

also SORRY lets us all know you screwed up....

If you screw the pooch go to the back of the grid...its not like you arn't going to catch up a'ready.

and...if you go off track...you may NOT re-enter until after the main pack has passed AND there is a usable gap....this has been a long standing problem that I just dredged up from the well of unrelated junk in my failing memory

The course creator has been out for a little while now. Tracks are starting to get reviews. What have you downloaded and kept? Which do you really like? What have you driven in general?

Fortunately many F1 tracks are relatively flat so they work. I have these tracks:

-Serres Circuit
-Sebring
-Road America
-Singapore Circuit
-Malaysian GP (Sepang International Circuit)
-Fuji Speedway 1970
-Hungaroring
-Miller Motorsports Park
-Circuit de Catalunya
-Sebring Short
-Sebring Short Modified (with Chicane on back straight)
-Oscersleben
-Mission Raceway

They are all really fun and have a great rhythm. They give the general feel of the real track but obviously the environment around is different.

here is the reprint of my Monday Pack notice on the SNAIL main thread.

Monday Night pack racing was created to be a pleasant, tight racing, place to learn the intricacies of door to door racing without the penalty of being LAST when you screw it up. The emphasis is on fun with Mikes open and chatter constantly letting you know who is where....and also to comment REALLY??? when someone is a bit over enthusiastic and thumps you.

Recently however it has gotten very quiet and very intense and way to "chippy". The Riot act has been read to all. If you plan to come race with us on Monday nights ...bring your smile:) and your laughs . Leave your fangs :mad:at home...oh... and we do not keep score so no one...and I mean NO ONE cares if you win. Not even us.

Given the recent discussion I must say, if I recall correctly, the last Monday I raced I was more aggressive than I should have been. And tried moves that in hindsight, were overly ambitious and for that I apologize. I always try to race as cleanly as possible while still going door to door with others. However, I think recently I have gone past the limits. I'm hoping to race for a couple races tonight, and I will do my best to race as cleanly and sensibly as possible. I hope I have not rubbed anyone the wrong way; it is not my intention to win races, I just enjoy a good hard fought race. If anyone has any issues with my driving in the future please message me about it. I'm sorry if I've been part of the problem recently.
