I'll help you out with that... Haven't had a throwback Thursday in awhile, so my question to all of SNAIL is when was your first driving experience? Whether it be a track day, gokarting, autocross, or simply your very first time behind the wheel, I'd like to know about it!

First time behind a wheel was probably with my dad driving the family sedan around random side streets just learning the basics of how a car feels. Then driver's ed, then on my own. I'm a road master.

Does being 3 year old playing NFS Underground (with a wheel) count?

Not sitting on my dad's lap to pretend to drive down the road?

Dad (thought) he started teaching me when I was 13. We'd go out on logging roads in Central Oregon and practice. We sure didn't go fast, and the shifter was... interesting.

(Not our van below, I ran ours straight into a tree when I was 18 - the tree won)

My youngest uncle, 15 years younger than Dad, had already nudged me forward a bit in his roommate's car. This was a much less common experience, but memorable.

I don't know if it was a Bradley (pic below), but it was a kit car from some VW Bug. Not hugely fast, but for a 13 year old, I thought it was epic. Those doors - it must have been fast!
(It wasn't)

My first time driving a car with out sitting on my dad's lap I was 10 tried to run over my dog!

First vehicle I drove by myself was my snowmobile at 7.

My mom didn't want me taking it by myself. So she got on the back didn't feel the need to hold on (she didn't think I would gun it... she was wrong!). she flew off the back I did a lap around the field, stopped where my dad was laying on the ground gutting himself.

My mom cuffed me up side the head told me "I'm to young to handle the power that well". My dad still laughing like a hyena choked out "your right he shouldn't, you should get on the back to help him control it". She said screw that the kids crazy and told me to go away!". I threw snow at her and spent the afternoon doing laps around the fields.
she went in the house and drank a bucket of coffee to get the cold off.

Karting when I was 6. There was this really shabby track here in Rio, close to the F1 track, but not associated with it. It was "inspired" in the Interlagos infield part, but it had a long (for karts) backstraight that led into a high speed corner and then into the start/finish straight.

Many long hours were spent there... Learned how to drive, then how to drive faster with no regard for my own safety, then how to drive in the rain. Got into plenty of scraps, obviously, but also learned how to anticipate problems, how to pay attention to everything around me, not just what's in front, etc. Until I grew up a lot and weight became an issue for karts (which made me switch to basketball as main sport), it was basically anything I wanted to do.

Ah, I didn't realize you were in the PS4 crowd. I have something planned for all those missing out on that.

@Vitessekid - Yea, it will happen eventually but I want to wait for @FlipJ as long as I can. I might get impatient and get started but probably not. In the mean time, I need to find a way to tell if a lot of people are interested in this or not.

It will come to pass. Details being worked out, official announcement should be ready soon.
@DesertPenguin09 has patiently dealt with my delays due to real life shenanigans.

I was 13 years old, my aunt was dating a street racer. He had a 1967 Plymouth GTX with a 426 Hemi. He let me drive it around the block, once. I was stoked because all my friends saw me driving this hot rod and I was the man for about a week. I was a Mopar guy from that day on until i bought my first car, a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner (383 high performance package) in the fall of '75. Swapped the 383 for a 440 six pack which I bought off the owner of a salvage yard in White Plains, NY. Wow, brings back good memories.

Sep 6, 2015 Labor Day Endurance Race

I created a thread for the labor day endurance race here. (Bookmark this page for quick reference in future). I will need some voluteers to host and help with other stuff - believe it or not, but I might not be available to race that day myself. I have a good system where the two hosts can communicate with each other while they are in the two different rooms and also track how drivers are signing into the rooms on race day.

I will keep track of the sign-ups with this post. Make your way over to the Sep 6, 2015 Labor Day Endurance Race thread and start signing up

My Dad was stationed in Germany when I was 13. Him and my Mom would sleep in on Saturdays, I would swipe the keys to an old 1957 Mercedes sedan with three on the tree. I drove that car around the block for months before I got caught. My Mom was pissed but my Dad laughed it off. He used to let me drive when he was drinking, pretty cool for 13.

I loved to drive carts at the local amusement parks going way back to childhood (10 - 12yr old) but my 1st real driving experience was when I was 14 . My older (cooler) brother took me to Watkins Glen one weekend when the trans-am series was running there. I remember being all impressed that Paul Newman was a REAL race car driver and not a guy who just played one in movies.

Anyway my older, cooler brother drank too many brews and tossed me the keys to his 1983 Dodge Omni (standard)

I was so scared because of the clutch , having never used one, but I got it sorted out pretty quickly. I did so well he let me drive for him on several occasions even when he was sober !!:) In retrospect im glad that the first car i learned how to drive was a standard. I've owned several standard transmission cars ever since. IMHO standards are the only way to have fun driving !

First solo driving experience. At 14 years old I remember pushing my best buddy's parent's Chevy Cavalier down the driveway and out into the road. It was about 7:00 pm on a Friday and we could see the back of his Dad's head in the front picture window. (Can you say ballsy?) We pushed the car about three houses down the road, started it up and went to the local high school football !game. I drove because my buddy didn't know how (like I did!) After the game all of our friends wanted to go for a ride, because, none of our friends had cars or licenses. I think we had about eight people in that little Cavalier at one point, and I remember the underside scraping the ground at intersections. We put the car back in the garage long after his parents went to bed and they were never the wiser. This started a tradition that went on for another year, and we never got caught. When we were in our mid-twenties we finally told his parents what we used to do and they couldn't believe it. But his dad said, "so that's probably where all that bird seed in the back seat came from;" that's a whole other story though.

hahaha @TomMang_68 , my first car was a Citroen GS, hydropneumatic suspension, 3 levels, I drove it into the hill after 5 km of driving loooool, here DP's understeer reflection of TOM's would have been justified, French bull:censored:it, then I switched to Opel Kadett C, ahh, wise decision ;), drove 3 of that marvelous stuff

I'm sorry, but that ship has sailed. After going back and forth with you in a three month PM conversation about your series idea, you repay me by leaving me hanging for another two months and then suddenly deciding that your idea is back "on"? I feel I exhibited more than enough patience with you, often having to repeat the same things over and over in that conversation.

Simply put, my patience has run out. Time is a commodity to me, and I don't have time to work with a series director that I'm unable to communicate with efficiently. Good luck with your series, but it won't be SNAIL-sanctioned as you previously insisted on.

Dude, it's not my fault @FlipJ has a life to live. You were never left hanging, I was just waiting for him to write an introductory post. Otherwise everything is ready to get started.

If you wanted to communicate with me all you had to do was send a PM and I'd reply. I get them on my phone all day so I'd know as soon as you sent it and would reply within 24 hours. But you never messaged me. So where does that leave us? Still waiting for FlipJ. That's all.

If we can't be SNAIL just because we took too long then that just is mean :(

For the record, I'm also not a fan of anyone who would rather throw somebody else under the bus rather than to be held accountable for something. I last replied to you two months ago, and haven't heard a peep from you on the matter since. After forcing me to sink so much of my time into that conversation, the least you could do would be to let me know why hadn't replied in two months.

If we can't be SNAIL just because we took too long then that just is mean :(
This statement is a perfect example of why I think you're a poor communicator (and unfit to direct a SNAIL series). I say one thing and you hear something else. This happened over and over during the course of our three month long conversation. It's not that you took too long to create the event, it's that I banged my head against the wall for three months trying to communicate with you, and you failed to effectively communicate back to me.

As for @FlipJ, I have nothing but respect for him. I think he'd be a very capable series director because he's a good, if not great, communicator. In other words, he's someone I can see myself easily coordinating with. You? Not so much.

Whoow, been a busy day. Worked on some more upgrades to my man cave. feeling a bit more "feng shui" than the turned over cabinet. Got the desktop from a buddy who for some reason didn't have any of the bottom wood. So I threw something together and got it up and looking decent. A few more pieces need to be added here and there for functionality and support, but it is nice and solid as is. Check it out.
The old "desk." Spent a lot of hours gaming on this. I already have my monitor and a few other things pulled off, getting ready to put the new desk in.

And here is the new hotness.

All that said, I am getting up and getting set up, which should go much smoother tonight. Should be ready to start streaming Sunday as well. Good times. See ya guys shortly in the practice room.

No one is being thrown under the bus. Dude, chill out. You tried to communicate with me in the last three months? I don't have any message from you. Like I said, if I did I would reply. You didn't reach out to me at all in the last three months. FlipJ knows what's going on, maybe you should talk to him instead of just me. We're both part of this. Like I said, I'm waiting for him, and he has a lot going on in life right now. He's working on starting a new business from the ground up. That takes up a lot of time. Give him a break. I'm here if you need me. As always. Again, I'm sorry I caused such a fuss.

You said, "the least you could do would be to let me know why hadn't replied in two months."

I did. The PM that we started so long ago. The last things we were talking about was a welcome post and that FlipJ would write it as I'm not good at wording things well. I keep repeating myself here...

The point is you knew what was going on and if you wanted to reach out to me you could have. I've just been sitting here waiting for FlipJ because I'm being a nice guy and don't want to start the series without him. It is both of our ideas.

But nevermind anything I say. Go on with your day like I mean nothing and don't exist. :)
