Hey chris, i appreciate your honest self analysis But driving without aids is really just about being disciplined with the throttle and steering and being smooth. I would practice in go karts since they exaggerate the effects. Some keys, try not to brake and turn, brake then turn. I end up coasting through most turns and getting back on throttle slowly to maintain traction. And since i use a ds3, i also end up feathering the throttle a lot mid corner to try to straighten the car up for the exit if i have over driven the entry.

To me, your best opportunity to get better is racing here. Drop back, follow and learn. Thats how i got good, following guys like coach and longbow. You'll pick it up quick and besides, gt6 comes out in a couple weeks and we'll all be at square one anyway.

Very good points, but if you want to get really really fast, spend $150 max and get a Logitech Driving Force GT Steering Wheel. You'll never go back.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna be around for all of the races today. The Formula 1 race is today and at 2pm live, so I kind of wanna watch that live. If it's a boring race I will join you guys in GT5. I didn't want to do the first race anyway cuz it's such a handful, so if I join late I'll just show up for the last 2 or just the last race theme.

How are the pedals? To me that's what makes the wheel any good. I have a cheap wheel and the pedals are too fake, unreal to me.

I actually have a Logitech G27 wheel, which should be comparable. This was my first GT game ever except for high school when I'd smoke with my friends then goto the arcade with a roll of quarters:). So, I took the license tests with aids on but I'm going to do them again this week with the aids off and that should be a good start. I'll definitely be racing with you guys soon enough. Thanks for all the advice!

Hey chris, when I joined Turtles I had to start racing w/o Aids. You don't really notice the difference your too busy try not to brake or accelerate during turns lol. Believe it or not I've gotten way faster than I was I actually win races when I troll the lobbies or shuffling. In league races I'm still very slow comparatively and spend most of my time in the back racing by myself but it doesn't stop me from racing with and learning from faster racers. You should just give it that old college try and worst case scenario If you feel your not up for it just pullover and park com'on buddy we all started somewhere.
I won't comment about the wheel as DS3 user I'm ignorant of its joys and advantages.

I got to try a Driving Force GT wheel (this was some time after I had gotten my G25) and was very disappointed with the pedals. Perhaps because I had been spoiled by the G25's. I'm sure just like anything though, you adapt to what you do have, I just know it was a rough ride for me trying to relearn!

I used a DS3 in GT5: Prologue. I was comparatively as quick with a DS3 (perhaps even moreso), so I know it's not impossible to compete with wheel users. But it cannot compete with the joy of using a wheel. It was a tough slog for a while, to get competitive with the wheel. However the first close race I had with a wheel was absolutely thrilling, like nothing else. No going back from that. That excitement still occasionally happens, where the concentration you have to apply makes you perspire.

I hope you do enjoy yourself when you do join Chris, and take it easy on yourself while you learn. It's easy to get discouraged, I know I have many times - and still do.

And come join Ph1sher, at least for the spec races. I'm sure it will be a good time.

Gentlemen, I'm thinking we should take this Sunday off for Thanksgiving weekend. My thought is two fold. One is that a lot a family will be visiting or guys will be doing the traveling. The second is we can use this week to recruit and get firm numbers for the next week. If we get 16+ confirmed (we had 16 at two races this week) we can run 2 divisions. If we do that, then I need to get TTs from a few more"regulars" + "new" drivers.
Thoughts? ??

Fair enough. And I think we should already be doing two divisions. This bunched up field is a real handful.
I personally like the fields to be 12+. That's just me. With this break it will give me time to go thru the field since we started and see who the regulars are + the rest and also work on groupings/divisions to see what it looks like.

I'd like to be in the amateur division lol. I know I can't run with the big league-ers but I'm not total crap (when I'm not frustrated lol). I notice I'm always in the bottom half, so maybe I would be near the top of the amateur division?

I'm gonna go thru all the previous weeks and yesterday the avg finishes and split in middle. Or use TT depending on who's I have compared to regulars. Idk right now. Just going to have to look at all the data. I think you will be where you want though. Just based on my memory and what you said DP

Probably an amalgamation of data could provide the best result (however I think the "tuned" race can skew the results based on driver alone).

Maybe we could consider running a "For those who don't celebrate Thanksgiving (or already had it!)" Special S.T.a.R. event for next Sunday instead, for the international members (any anyone else who wants to join in).

I'm going to look at both, TTs & results (with n without R2). If it's too hairy I'll ask for help but being a math guy I hope to be able to make divisions fair.

Thanksgiving race for internationals and the dont's sounds good. If you want to organize that go for it Long. That's a good idea and maybe they will invite others. May turn into a promotional event or not, it's your baby, I don't want to intrude.

Math is good, I have confidence in math. :P

I will ask around with the people I know, if they're interested. It was just a thought.
