@aerolite @Lessen here is a calculator to determine the correct FOV. When we had the race with the old Lotus and was forced to use cockpit view, this tool was handy, gave apx, as to what was needed. I use to race in chase cam, but after that race I now race in hood/roof cam.., the in car is just to tight for me. I can use in car with open wheel cars thats all.

SGETI, you are a wealth of information! I also used this, but ended up tweaking for taste. My taste keeps changing though. I did like Aero to start - moved my seat way up. I keep moving further back incorporating more and more dash into my view. I think it has helped the transition from bumper to interior.

:scared: No idea what you're talking about. Haha! I suppose I should use the time on more important matters anyways.
BitTorrents are what you DL from others. When you click on the file you want, for instance from the link that Flip put up, your BitTorrent client software will open that file and start the DL. You will be DL'ing bits of data from many different users or "seeders". With popular files, such as a recent F1 race, you can have a few hundred people seeding. You get to choose what quality of file you want as well, 720 or 1080 for example.
Of course, all this is illegal but only DL'ing very popular shows like Game of Thrones ect can maybe attract the attention of your provider. This is why a VPN service is good.
The amount of coverage I get just on one F1 weekend is amazing, you can DL all of SkySports coverage if you wanted, almost 12 hrs of it if you really wanted too!

@SGETI, you're amazing.

That was all.

Using my specs, my FOV would be 29.74* The game only allows down to 35. In helmet cam (w/o the helmet) That looks like this...

I typically have always set my FOV to max at 85. Putting the same car on nearly the same point of the track it looks like this...

The correct FOV looks more like bumper cam than an interior view except for seeing the drivers hands (which are amazingly quite scale if I reach out toward my t.v. The lower pic however seems more realistic because I can see things in the car that I expect to see in real life via my peripheral vision. I could prbably tighten it up slightly as I might not see that much headliner in the car, but I personally opt for the more "innacurate" FOV of 85.

Interestingly enough, the website's author has this to say in the disclaimer... "If your monitor is more than 3ft (~1M) away or you have only a single small monitor (<27" diagonal) or both, then FOV is not the first thing you should address to enhance your experience, immersion and enjoyment."

I wholeheartedly agree. I am currently using a 16:9 26" t.v. My eyes are almost exactly 24" away from the screen when I play.

I've been thinking of turning the helmet but in most cars I cannot see the tach, which drives me nuts. If I could affix my phone to the bottom of my t.v. screen somehow I could recreate that with Dash.

So who else doesn't use any apps or driver equipment? I still drive with just the wheel, the headset wire plugged into the DS4 controller and one TV screen.

It seems like a lot of you are using all these apps for extra info, multiple control and mapped buttons etc.

I am on the line of needing to stop using them and all that are getting the psvr should probably start as well. Since we won't be able to see any of these screens with it on.

Something like that would probably make me sick.

I'm with you, Joe. The most complicated thing I do is cycle through the steering wheel LCD in a couple of cars to get temps. I'd love to use PCars dash, but I'm afraid to go to wifi and then start getting DCed. Rather have a stable connection than a pit engineer...

What the psvr? It's "hopefully" designed not to do that to you. I watched an occulus rift video on Pcars and I'm really excited cause I don't like the fake rear mirror and I also mapped left and right to buttons on the wheel trying to see my side mirrors. I found I turn my head anyway when the helmet cam does. It takes a bit but it helps me see how far off the car is from straight.

This guy is my new hero.
Now you understand why so many people have a Kimi fetish...
He's been doing this for a while.
There's also this one, when he was kidnapped by some Chinese people and forced to read a ransom note:

They may say this is a commercial, but I'm still pretty sure this is a kidnapping.

Trust me Joe, gadgets are not helping me to go any faster. I kind of go overboard with hobbies, I've done it my whole life.

I love the immersion and real feeling of being in a race car. On Tuesday nights, I make very few adjustments during a race. I have a hard enough time focusing on the track. I love banging gears, flipping switches, and pushing buttons when I'm racing alone in career mode though. It's just fun. Hopefully I'll get the Dash and or Crew Chief apps. running this week. Another fun bit entertainment.

My TV is just over 3ft away from me. 3ft 6inches to be exact. Should I move the seat forward instead of tightening the FOV? I went down to 70 to remove move of the bottom of the steering wheel and the dash stuff. It really just needs to be tweaked per car to get exactly right depending on how much you want to see.

I think FOV should be a set it and forget it thing. It's all about re-creating line of sight, which doesn't change from car to car in real life. If you want to make slight adjustments to how much you see from car to car, the seat adjustments can be utilized without changing FOV all the time. I think it's a really bad idea to change FOV contantly because it has a significant affect on sense of speed and "distance". If you start changing that up all the time you're bound to get caught off guard in traffic situations. That's just my feelings on it.

Also, I generally feel the best immersion comes from getting as close to the screen as possible without seeing pixels. The closer you get, the "wider" your "view" becomes.

I agree. The calculation I got from Sgeti's link put me at 61 but that was to narrow, I have settled on 80 and will leave it at that. I tried a few different cars and just using the seat adjustments was all I needed to get the position I wanted. The drivers side mirror is not always visible but I have programmed left/right views back on my wheel and have been practicing using them as quickly as possible. Overall, views are definitely more restricted but I find the speed sensation to be much closer to reality. I'm also driving without the driver/wheel, I find the hands to be distracting and it takes away the realism. (I can see why the controller guys would want it though).
Thanks again guys for your input, appreciate it.
Will be interesting tomorrow night!
