Tomica - Made In Japan

Sweet Camaro, and until I buy a case, I try to do it every time. So far I've had three blisters fall off, but only because the cardboard was waterdamaged or weak.
Thanks, man. Thanks for the tip, too. Worked out great. Much cleaner. 👍
That's why you should totally send them to me. Oh and feel free to throw in a TLV or twelve as well, thanks. :D
We can always do a trade, you know? I know you have some collector's choice type cars like that Convention Falcon XB, Tomica Gran Turismo Set, etc., etc., etc., etc.:embarrassed: Unfortunately, only party that would win in that scenario is the postal service.
That Initial D AE86 there costs 5000 Yen... and I didn't regret not buying it.
I saw both the silver one & Fujiwara(?) Tofu one in your previous picture, and been wondering what the prices were. That silver one was actually really cool.
So did you guys hear about the leaked $TH AE86 Trueno?

It looks kinda cool...

But my sought after $TH (though not highly-sought*) still remains to be the 240Z and 599XX. What about you guys?
Great Lamley post(props to you for linking it, too). 👍 I have the 2000GT, the Z, and just scored the Tundra for $12 on TTP(I picked up 4 packages today, I probably have it). Why do I think the last two(510 wagon + Hachiroku) will be the most expensive from that line up.
*I'd sooner drop $50+ on a rare E-Type, Land Cruiser or Defender 110S than I would on any $TH.
Let's agree to disagree.

But you wrong!

ACK! Curse you. I have always wanted one of these... but the price, omFg.
I've never even seen it before. KICK. ASS.

Thanks for that pic A6. Hopefully when my house is built and Im in it (hopefully late March) Ill be able to sort through all my cars, which are packed away in boxes and a photo of all my Vipers might be taken.
Sounds awesome Ben. 👍
Well...Thanks to a6m5, i have fallen completely inlove with あみあみ。。。
Right on! For TLVs, or other stuff they carry too? If you like the TLVs, also check out the Japan Booster link here(via Lamley), also if you like AmiAmi, you may like Plamoya. Awesome stores.
No, I have several vintage Tomicas, but not a single premium model had fallen in my hands.
Haha, limited & vintage Tomicas, but not Tomica Limited Vintage. That's some funny shiitake. :P
You know you don't have to fondle them to know what's inside, right?:P
Sounds like fundle to me, dude. I got that same Mini, and I did it the smart way........ but I feel shortchanged.
The mini that I got was at wall mart.
You work there now, right? Don't let your boss see how you are spelling their name. :D

Wow. I think I like 'em all. I'm probably adding a Legacy to my next AmiAmi order. Black, but it's dirt cheap.

Really? Well, I still want the TLV one, but that's good to know.

I believe you. Only because you own lot of TLVs.
To be honest the TLV one looks slightly off, like the greenhouse (as they call it) the windows/roof look too big.

That I don't own them doesn't mean I haven't been able to compare them. I have several friends that have loads of TLVs and even a guy who sells them for gold prices, and while they are extremely nice indeed, they're no Kyosho. By far.

You guys almost made me forget why I got on here. I picked up the blue & orange one of these online?(non-chase):

M2_Auto-Mods-Spread-2.jpg

Out of the four packages I had come in, one looked like they used it for ball in the World Cup, so I knew it was going to be these two cars in it. It was. :banghead:

Good news is, the seller packed the hell out of it, not a dent/scratch/mark on either cases. *phew*

I think Kyosho's are more accurate? I've mentioned this before, but with the TLVs, I like their interpretation or whatever you want to call it that translates to the casting. Not saying that this is the case with your Legacy but sort of like with Hot Wheels, HW casting can be the farthest from being realistic, but damn, they could be my favorite 1/64 of certain cars.

I was kidding bro, relax. ;) I'm sorry, I guess I just don't know what "by far" is. Like I was just about to reply to Jason about accuracy, I think Kyosho's do better. Having said that, like with Andy's 787, I've seen crappy assembly work like they can be the Japanese M2 Machines. I honestly don't think they are as superior as you, or your friends make it sound. I think they are both nice high-end castings, but I feel that there are pros & cons to both line of cars.

I do have one car that I own both the Kyosho & TLV version: First gen CR-X. Maybe I should check them out side-by-side, too, just for heck of it! :D

I have yet to see a badly assembled Kyosho myself. At least in personal experience. I'll ask Ahmed, lol.

Also, of course both brands have their pros and cons. Specially when one sees their lineup of cars. Kyosho has a much better selection, specially race cars, while TLV is only for the japanese oddball fan. But in detail and quality, Kyosho is much better.

Blacklisted the CRX, but honestly, the case with the Cool Classics CRX was the last thing I'd ever expect to see locally. So I grabbed it anyway.

Casting ain't so cool, but here's a really cool one:

Mercedes%2BSL65%2BBlack%2BSeries%2B(AMG%2BMinicar%2BCollection%3ASilver).jpg

$12.50 shipped on AliExpress. brap. Screw eBay sellers. I've got all 3 SL65s now. You got some catchin' up to do, Kakashi! :P

If I may chime in on the TLV v Kyosho argument, I am a fan of both, but from my experience TLV is more consistent in quality than Kyosho. There have been some TLV duds, but Kyosho has had a really bad run of late. The last batch of Lamborghini was a disaster, so much so that many dealers returned the sets to Kyosho, and a few of the Subaru batch suffer from the "too large wheels" syndrome that has plagued many Kyosho models lately. When Kyosho nails it, they NAIL it, but when they whiff, it is pretty bad.

All that said, the Hako and Kenmeri Kyoshos are among my favorite models, as are some of the BMW's. But I would take TLV over Kyosho in almost all cases. Of course, they rarely produce the same car, so comparing can be hard.

Hmmmmmm.... with the silver being the coolest one among the three, I say I'll pass. I won't mind not getting the white and black ones. :P

Moving on, I'm very happy with Majorette returning to the local toy stores. I finally got that Renault-Alpine A110-50 race car a while ago.

Next might be the lime green Mustang Boss 302.

I have to agree in that I've seen less faults on TLVs than Kyoshos....That R205 Impreza, my lord, it doesn't even look like a Subaru at times.

I will give you guys that, that Mercedes is a "10".

I think I worded it wrong. Not pros & cons, strengths & weaknesses. To TLV fans like myself, I'm tired of exotics. Since I was a toddler, there's been plenty of exotics toy cars. I have to concede with the 'oddball' labeling though, as I do find the TLV selection so refreshing, and while that's the weakness of the TLVs to you, that's their strength to me. Of course though, my impression is also: Kyosho following > TLV following. For me, neither's right or wrong, superior or inferior. They are both awesome.

But back on topic, the "quality". What makes them so superior to TLVs? Yes, Kyosho's impressive, but when I hold my Ferraris, or race cars, there isn't anything that make me automatically go "OMG, these are the bestest 1/64 EVER!". Thanks to @jtl46 for chiming in with his insight. 👍

You are the BIGGEST Kyosho fan & you are staying out of it. You are smarter boy than I originally thought.

Sounds like Kyosho is a Japanese equivalent to M2.
Maybe, but we still love both, don't we? :D

As a Kyosho collector, here are some castings to avoid:

Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera - rear spoiler looks totally off.

Subaru Impreza R205 - weird lines

Subaru Impreza STi NBR Challenge Package - rear spoiler looks odd, also headlights look like they are going to fall off.

Lamborghini Countach LP500R - Stripes can be easily erased.

Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG - Windshield has an erroneous (and hilariously-looking) angle, and too big.

Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 - Wheels are too big.

Most Ferrari convertibles - windshields can get loose.

Will add more to that list... :P

^ Non-RM Shelby Cobras have massive windshields, Murcielago R-GTs have front grills that are too tall in height, some cars don't have level ride-heights so they're slanted (like my SLR McLaren), and any race cars with rear wings are almost always crooked. :P

I will give you guys that, that Mercedes is a "10".

My gun metal SL65 would've been a 12. Would've.

Shinji
There isn't anything in Kyoshos that make me automatically go "OMG, these are the bestest 1/64 EVER!". Thanks to @jtl46 for chiming in with his insight. 👍

Maybe if I showed you a disassembled TLV....

Mmhh... it's been a while since I last grabbed a newish Kyosho, the last batch I bought were all race cars from years ago, and it has been like that for a while since the newer series they've put out hasn't interested me. I think Ahmed bought a Subaru or two, I'll tell him to show them to me once he's back. And indeed it's true that they rarely produce the same car so comparing them can be hard sometimes, but I've still found Kyosho detailing to be superior to Tomica in stuff like tampoing, of even the little ribs that run across some of the headlamps. It takes a real nut to put that level of detail in a 1:64 car. Kyosho is the only one I've seen doing it. Eh, maybe Autoart, but their selection is incredibly lame.

I think I worded it wrong. Not pros & cons, strengths & weaknesses. To TLV fans like myself, I'm tired of exotics. Since I was a toddler, there's been plenty of exotics toy cars. I never said it was a weakness, I indeed find it refreshing, but it absolutely is an acquired taste. Half of the cars you have bought I would laugh at if I saw them in a store and then drop them behind me cartoon-style, but I'd immediately grab the other half. Without even thinking. With Kyosho is the same, mind you. The modern Ferrari sets are incredibly lame, not even the $6 price tag on some can call me on them.

I think the race cars is what make me errr to the Kyosho side, even if the like 5 TLV has put out are absolutely awesome.

White = TLV, Red = Kyosho.

OK, first the CR-X comparison..... You have to take my word for it. When you have these two cars in your hands, they are not that close, considering. TLV looks like a miniaturized version of the real life car. It's almost lifelike. Kyosho, it looks like a really neat toy car.

First of all, let me say this. It's just one car, and to be fair, this CR-X makes most TLVs look stupid. As for TLV CR-X versus Kyosho CR-X, only one advantage I observed from Kyosho was the headlight lens Cano noted. He wasn't joking about the ribs, or lines in the lens. That was freaky. Even so, overall, TLV headlights looks correct & Kyosho lights, not so much. The worst Kyosho feature were the side mirrors. Pics won't do justice, but they are dumbo huge. I didn't realize it until I was uploading the pic, but TLV does have crooked black line on the far left corner of the taillight. :(

Anywho, again, I do suspicion that TLV put crazy effort into this particular model, and for Kyosho, it was probably just another car. I've no doubt that good Kyosho compared to mediocre TLV would produce similar results in Kyosho's favor. In fact, Jason's Legacy comparison will probably balance it out.

My cars today:

At Walmart, "I'm not getting any mainlines", I said.

I couldn't resist. Also in the mail:

ERTL 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I

Do you miss your Super Nova @R1600Turbo ? :P

M2 Camaros. Package was all smashed, but good packing saved these two.

Maybe if I showed you a disassembled TLV....
What are you, made out of money!?

acquired taste
wait-what-did-you-said.jpg

Japanese guy says, "what acquired taste?"

I totally agree with you though. Totally acquired taste.👍
Touche. Also I hope one of four packages you received had the Autobacs Bluebird silhouette in it. :embarrassed:

That Legacy and Galant (hadn't seen one in that colour before). Very cool. Curse you. 👍
It sat at the Customs for roughly one week(Thanks again, L.A. :irked:). L.A. Post Office just shipped it out today I think? It'll arrive this week barring late Hawaii vaca....

I think the TLV is also helped a looooooot by the awesome wheels they chose to put in it, whereas the Kyosho model has the ugly steelies.

ERTL Shelby Mustang

If the guy that sold this to you told you this was a Shelby, welcome to scamville, population: you. It's a standard 1969 Mach 1. Cool car though.
