Possibly... i scored it at a dollar store while killing time, i hadnt found one myself so i snagged it... dunno what i did with the package or i'd tell ya when it was from... its got a 2011tm on the chassis but i dunno how often they update the basemolds

No one bothered me when I go through bins. I did ask a employee when I got the c case cars if they were from the day I got them but the employee said they were from a few days ago.

Hello everyone :)

I always liked HWs but never really got into collecting them. 5~6 yrs ago I bought a few cars but then just became an afterthought...

But now that I don't play GT6 as much as I used to, I needed to fill the void with something, and lord behold I find this thread. Going thru some of the recent pages I saw the hakosuka, kenmeri and the RX3 and suddenly I had an obsession to get them.

So I went to 3 targets, 1 Walmart, 1 TRU and a few supermarkets and no luck (obviously...), but I ended up finding these:

As I mentioned a few I got a while back but the rest are from 1 week of hunting... But still no skylines or RX3 (now I do realize I won't find them anywhere except eBay :guilty:

I have a question: how often I should I hit up the stores for new arrivals? Or is there a place to find out when new stuff is released?

Thanks for reading, happy hunting all

As often as possible, but you still need good location & much luck. I check while grocery shopping, on the way home, etc., but I still rely a lot on the secondary market(eBay, the toy peddler).

I'm not really a volume collector. As you can see I'll take all of them out the box regardless of market value

I don't mind making the rounds to find a few cars I like, but in the case of Japanese cars, is it safe to say I can save the trip to the store and just look for it online? (since the store workers take the highly prized ones and keep them off shelf as it has been mentioned by a few people here)

Yes, but again, location & luck. If you are skeptical about the availability locally, yes, I'd shop online for the best price. In my neighborhood, it's a hit & miss at best. Mostly misses.

Edit: Is that Macross in your avatar? It's driving me crazy. lol

Yea I'm in LA so I figure scalpers are all over around here...

My avatar is Robotech, when I was a teen I used to watch cartoons and always loved them since :)

JDM stuff's popular, so I think the cars like Skyline, RX-3, 2000GT with real riders are guaranteed to sell out fast. Me personally, I'm kinda on the fence, but if I see a reasonable offer online, I'd probably take it.

I think Macross is the JDM Robotech, though I don't know much about them. Your avatar was throwing me off, because the style of the artwork was bit different from the anime(looks like A-6 Intruder, too lol). 👍

You may be right, I haven't followed this genre in a real long time as I was I Brazil when I was watching it on TV (please don't kill me fans of this series)

How does one know wether or not they should keep their HW in the pack? I only have 4 currently(when I was a child I had a collection of over 400, I was obsessed with cars) and I'm not sure wether or not zi should open them. I know for a fact off the top of my head I have a Porsche That the bottom is not connected snugly with the car.

I should post a car:

More pics here if anybody's interested.

eBay search might be in order. If it's valuable, keep it carded. If not, who cares?

Hmm, that Publica seems to be lacking something... The detail feels as if it's rather "Plastic-y" (if that makes any sense). I don't know, perhaps the Toyopet Crowns have made me skeptical about any other old TLV car that isn't relatively new in terms of release date, maybe I've joined the dark side a long time ago.

Nevertheless, good purchases as always, @a6m5. As for Micromachines, if they retain that immense character and large-sized folding cars that can reveal an entire city, like the one I have somewhere in my attic, I'll be more than eager to buy a few more for my children. Yes, for my children, whenever I get them, not for me... :P

The Publica isn't too bad for an early casting. The thing that lets it down the most is the grille pattern is simplified and oversized compared to the real thing.
As far as the early Skylines, they look fine until you see pictures of the actual cars and realize how much detail was left out of the TLV versions for cost reasons or ease of manufacturing. Things like the gold P R I N C E block lettering that should be at the bottom of the grille.

Thank you, contributors.

I was able to rearrange my K'nex shelves and now it is completely filled at 103% capacity after taking out a few cars.

Edit: Found perfectly-sized boxes thanks to my packaging certifications. Quotes will be available tomorrow.

While it doesn't look quite right to me, I also find it difficult to put a finger on the problem. Yes, the grille seems wide, and the body I think could be sharper/more defined. I don't know, I'm really tired & I'm hoping I'm making sense. :D

P.S. I'm not at all familiar with the Prince Skyline, so I'm gonna have to look that up sometime. Thanks for the input guys. 👍
Had a Datsun 1000 on my TLV wishlist, but then I discovered AUTOart's big boy version.
I need a pic.

Not the grille itself, the mesh. The TLV pattern is way too big. I think they would have done a better job if it was a current release.

Talk about your camber right there, Tomica must've taken a page from the Morohoshi book of Lamborghini tuning...👍

Also, I side with @GroupB on the Toyota TLV condrum; the grill is thinner and bigger than the real-life counterpart, which definitely makes the Tomica look somewhat awkward by comparison... If Tomica ever gets around to re-release the car in 1:64 form, that's one thing they should definitely fix.

@GroupB @Niku Driver HC I do see what GB is saying about the mesh, but yeah, at least in those photos, TLV grille also do seem shorter in height & wider. It could be the angle of the photos too though, I need too see more pics.

Yeah, that's it, shorter and wider, I feel the exact same way about that. I don't think it's just the picture angle, to be duly honest, but it may have some influence. But in my view, the grille is simply shorter than the real-life counterpart.

Also, the ride height seems to be a bit lower, but eh, let's not pick the poor car apart any more than what we have done already...

May I ask, are scale models smaller than 1:64 size allowed in here? Just wondering...

I'm just one member, but I don't see any problems with it. I still refer to it as the hot wheels thread.

Well, I'll wait for more answers for now, but I'll also take your word for it regardless. Don't want to start another war over what defines this thread again, lord knows how wild that would get...
