It is time for my weekly update (anyone notice I usually update sat. or sun.?)

I wasn't planning on buying anything, but I found a subaru impreza!
It brings my rally car tally to 8

Yep majorette have outdone themselves with the racing series

Is it just me or is that just a better painted Hot Wheels car? The body mold looks alot like it.

After closer inspection... No
The spoiler is different, the indicator lights are differently placed, the front is a bit different, the edges are different, the scoop is different the windows look more rounded on HW (it could just be me)... Its different
And I prefer majorette for the boncyness. Can't have a stiff rally car.

I've got mine right on my disk as I type this and I'm telling you, they look very alike (aside from the paint job and slightly longer tail pipe.

Here's a picture of a Hot wheels released one just for comparison:

Yeah I saw that picture, but trust me. Just look at the front end. They are quite different

I do notice the front end now. I just found the similarities on these two very interesting. This makes me wonder if Hot wheels and Majorette basically use the same body molds with slight differences and assuming thats the case, if I can possibly gauge what next cars are coming. For instance, Compare the Focus WRC car from both and other then the Majorette one having a much lower front end, They basically share the same body. Assuming my theory is correct, then the Citroen C4 WRC that I've been searching for could basically (minus whatever different color Hot Wheels gives it) look alot like this:

I wish there still was Majorettes here in the US as the quality on their cars have improved quite alot over the years.

It is possible, but I doubt it. In that case we would probably see more similar cars in the livery of both makers. Also the differences seem strange to me.The body itself has some strange differences. For example right at the back the corners seem much more pointy than in hot wheels. The more I look at it, the more different it looks.

Simple wheel changes work wonders.

Best thing is, I didn't have to modify the axles in any way. Pulled them out of the donor car, snapped them into the Ecto and put it back together. 👍

pretty good. Now detail all the stuff that's over the car and you're set.

and no, Hot Wheels and Majorette do not use the same molds at all.

I don't believe that one will be out until the end of the year sometime. Nobody has found one yet, and the "sneak previews" on the HWC site have not shown it yet either.

it wont appear until the end of the year, the poster doesn't even show it. It's always like that, when a car does not show up in the poster, it will appear untill end of the year.

now on to something pretty cool:

The other day talking to a friend from work I told him I collected cars and he told me "Imma bring you two I have lying around, a Mustang and a Bug", I said "Ok, I'll take good care of them".

By next day I had even forgotten about it when he just puts these over my desk:

I was absolutely overwhelmed. They are Taiyo tin cars from Japan, the Mustang must be around 1974, the VW is from the mid 60s, both are like the size of a 1:18 car. Both are in great GREAT shape considering their age, the mechanism that made them work doesn't work anymore but no one's complaining! I had already seen the Mustang several times, but it was always pretty rough and quite expensive, I had never seen the VW.

He told me that the VW belonged to his dad and the Mustang to him and his brother, but he wanted to give them to me because his daughter was in full destroyer mode and she had already ripped to pieces another similar car, so he tells me "take good care of them, they are like a little family history", and gives them to me as a gift!!! man that made my day, I had alkways wanted a japanese tin car, and nw I have two, in great shape, as gifts!!!

Sounds like me about 6 years ago :ouch:

I have a some-what steady hand. I did realize I messed up at the end of that green tank. I'll have to fix that.

Yeah I see it. The best thing about making something is that only you know all the flaws ;)

HEY, VERY GOOD!!! I's been a while since I last saw such good detailing in a HW custom. What paint did you use? The in-blister version is stunnning, it really lets you see how well it was all replicated. Heck, I'm gonna post it in the Hot Wheels Mexico Club webpage so people see how good detailing is done (:

Thanks. I just use regular Testors model paints. Usually with a fine tip paint brush or some round toothpicks. I also found some really nice photos of the car on someone's flickr page that were a nice size to get details from.

bump to say that R1600's custom Ecto has received nothing but praise in the HW Mexico Club webpage, everyone umped off their rockers when they saw it inside the blister again, some even tought it was a special edition. Congratulations from many people in Mexico, dude (:

PM me the link? I tried to find it with no luck. :P

I envy some of the cars in this thread! That Ecto looks awesome, nice detailing!

well now, each of those cost me about usd 5, really chreap for some of those cars. Like I said, I should be smiling from here to Germany and back, but I'm in fact devastated. You see, this is but the tip of the iceberg of a small 80-car collection a guy brought in to the flea market I regularly attend looking for vintage die-cast. I was walking around and immediately noticed the cars, but as I got closer I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES. row upon row upon row of vintage incredible Sikus, black-wheel Majorettes, Norevs, Auroras, redline Toppers, redline Hot Wheels, Pennys and Lesney/Matchbox, along with some european makers that I have never in my life even heard of, most of them absolutely pristine or near so. It was unreal because the flea market is no high-end deal, but there it was, stretched out upon me.

first thing that jumped on me was the Hot Pink redline so I secured it, along with the Mexico-only Paddy Wagon... but as I examined them more and more it became obvious that this was too good to be true. I let it out: "How much for all of them?" The guy loooked at me in slight disbelief, took out an old cell phone and told me "give me 3,000 pesos (more or less like 250 usd), it's like 3.5 usd for each car. Cheap, dude"

I could not believe my luck. "Put them away -I told him- I'll head to the (what is it? I dont think i've ever used the word in english... well, you know, the machine that gives you money, dammnit... automatic cashier? well you get the idea) to get the money". He smiled and strarted to put them in a plastic bag, haha, and I ran away to get the money. That was my mistake.

On the way, I was thinking about what I had just done. From a quick judgement, I was estimating about usd 1,500 to 2,000 worth of cars in there. TWO-THOUSAND DOLLARS, PEOPLE, IN 80 CARS. Just so you can imagine the kind of stuff that was in there. I got there, took the money out and headed back. It must have been... what? 5 to 7 minutes. When I came back, he told me "dude, some guy got some of them" -"what???!!"

Yeah. Norevs, Auroras, Pennys, redlines, and the freaking Sikus. All gone. the guy that bought them mut have offered him more than what he had told me, and he took the most intresting cars. He certainly knew what he was buying.

I almost fell in my knees crying. It was the chance of a freaking lifetime fellas, I will NEVER EVER EVER see those cars all together again, at those prices, in that condition. It was SO ***CKING FRUSTRATING. I got what you saw up there and left, absolutely devastated. The collection of a lifetime had been in my hands for a minute... the mint Siku VW Bug, the mint Siku Ferrari 250 GTO from the 60s, the black-wheels Maorette Peugeot with two dogs, the Penny Ferrari P4, the Redline King Kuda in plum, the Norev Mercedes Benz C111 with working up-opening door, the minty Topper Custom Ferrari... all gone.

so yeah, what you see here is... erm, the leftovers of one of the most amazing and awesome conglomeration of euro die cast makers I have ever seen. Cars like those are almost UNHEARD OF in Mexico... and they were gonna be mine. Yeah, I grabbed some AWESOME cars, but alas, I look at them and I can't even enjoy them. They make me remember right away what I just lost. It's just horrible.

so yeah, I had one of my best days as a collector, indeed. But I also had the worst, by far.

how was your day?

:(

Sorry to hear about you missing that chance, Cano. You've still picked up some pretty good stuff though, nice one 👍

Is your Fiat "Punto" not a Fiat Ritmo/Strada though? Or was the Strada called the Punto in Mexico?

There's a local market every week near to me, and a couple of people are selling old matchbox-type cars there. I'm very tempted to go along with a handful of cash and buy a bunch of them. There was a VW Type 2 and a Citroen DS last time I went along, I should definitely have a closer look next time.

I got three cars today.
Anyone remember me whining about the shop NEVER restocking? Well everyone does that anyway, but they RESTOCKED hurray!
Sadly it was just more hot wheels cars, but I found 2 cars I liked.

First up is a jaguar XK 120SE from matchbox
I have been wanting it for some time now.

JaguarXK120se1.jpg

Second is a Hot Wheels. Its a buick grand national. I bought it, btecause I bought one a long time ago and the detailing was bat.... well there wasnt any detailing actually. But this one is a whole lot better. I do suspect, that the front removable end is the wrong color like the other one I have, albeit a very small difference.
Decided I'll keep it in the blister.

And the best buy of all ( it was 4,10€)
The siku citroen traction avant.
Its awesome! Especially, because we don't see many cars from this time period.

Citroentractionavant4.jpg

Citroentractionavant5.jpg

And you know the best part of it?
The doors open :dopey:

Citroentractionavant2.jpg

Citroentractionavant1.jpg

But since I have the worst luck ever the left side of the car has had some paint scratched off on the door. I should really take a better look at these before buying. Really

Dude, go and buy them. Be careful tough, general paint chipping can be repaired by a simple resto, but missing pieces or borken glass is a no-no. and watch for the prices, some people are off their rocker when pricing old diecast, even if it's almost destroyed.

I got a nice siku porsche 911 carrera S
yellow + black rims are a nice combination
