Cool thread. I used to play with these cars all the time as a kid, and started picking them up recently for collection. Got an FXX a while back, then these fairly recently:

'10 Shelby GT500
'09 Corvette Stingray Concept
430 Scuderia
F430 Challenge
F430 Spider
'09 GT-R
Datsun Bluebird 510
'69 Coronet Super Bee

There are a handful at the store I work at that I've been meaning to pick up but never get around to it.

Wheels and a small detail. The tail lights look like crap in the picture, but they aren't so bad in person. Go figure.

Yeah, I don't know why Mattel decided that putting brake light decals on the car was too hard. The front has the headlight decals and the Nissan emblem. The rear is completely blank.

If I remember correctly, the machines can only tampo 2 things at a time (the left and right side count as one) So they can only tampo the rear and the front or the front and the sides, the top and the front etc. This is not so in more expensive releases like the speed machines.
Proof of this is the matchbox citroen ds. The earlyer ones had the whole body in one color and the front and rear tampoed, while the newer release has a white roof, but no decals in the back.
That answers that then. I prefer plastic headlights anyway. They look better and no need to tampo them.

EDIT:

I had some spare time and I went to some stores with my bike. Here's what I got

A ferrari 288 GTO
ferrari288GTO.jpg

I can't resist hot wheels ferraris :P

I got a majorette too

And last I went to a store I didn't go to in a long time. They restocked! Wooo
I got...
a treasure hunt? No
Two treasure hunts? No
Three treasure hunts? Yes!
I'm so surprised! I never get T-Hunts

I already opened one, but Ill set the spectralframe one out too.
Only one will stay in the blister.

Well even though I am probably too old for this stuff I still am a kid when it comes down to it. Anyhow first up I have a collection of my previous car (Nissan 350z) these two are by matchbox. I had actually given my nephew the white one some years ago. Somehow he didn't destroy it so asked for it back.

Am in the process of collecting Exige's now. I'm still missing a baby blue one which is in the mail from the UK and a black with green stripes (which I may not bother getting as I don't really like the colour scheme.

This is part of my collection of when I was younger. The rest of it my nephew has taken (he has a stupid amount of them... Apparently I was obsessed with cars as a kid, he clearly puts me to shame). Back then I used to actually play with them so some did get a fair beating. Others not so much. I'm curious though is there anything amongst them that is a stand out/rare? I've recognised some going through the hotwheels wiki and a fair few look to be from 1990-91 but some others I couldn't find.

There was this one that has a copyright from 1969 on the underside but checking cars released from 69-70 I didn't see anything resembling it. It is 5th from the right in the 2nd last row of the first photo.

I'd keep the one with the rubber tires in the packaging. It's worth the most.

Too late :sly:
What's the point in keeping it in the package? I want to look at it.
And besides. It is kept in a cardboard box, that I put some 5mm foam in, so no worries about any paint chips or other damage.

No better safe keeping than in the package is what I say. :) But it's your car, do what you will. I've been buying a few extra cars lately to open them as well. However, you won't catch me opening a treasure hunt. :D

Basically if you don't actually use your cars and just have them as collector pieces, it's better to leave them unopened so further on down the line you can sell them for a lot more because they've been untouched. Most likely your buyer will also keep it in the box.

But if you buy the cars for YOU, to actually admire them, look at them and (in my case at least) USE them the way they were meant to be used, then there's no point in leaving them in the box. The keeping in the box thing is just for collectors/people not wanting to damage it at all/people wanting to sell it for a HUGE profit later based on its rarity.

👍

This

I like to admire them and look at them.
I do keep some in the boxes, just because I already have the model or if I'm not to fond of it.

But they are mostly intended as toys. Mustn't forget that

And the spectralframe paint is awesome 👍

I think this is Wayne's Garage, not sure though. '51 Buick Le Sabre Concept

Just got a flat black 2010 Hot Wheels Gallardo... sweetest looking Hot Wheels car I have ever seen (but then again, I'm a sucker for flat black cars).

I'd say the muscle collection is pretty much there with the two crown jewels leading the pack. Two of Cudas and Coronets each as I simply found better colours.

Son of a B****, there it is!!!! :frowns in complete disgust: :grumpy:

I've known about it for about a week. It's supposed to be released in the Speed Machines series as well, so hopefully it'll be accurate to the real car.

Got myself, uhm I mean my daughter, these today:

'67 Shelby GT500
Triumph TR6
Ford Torina Tagedalla
Ferrari F430 Spider
Camaro Convertible Concept
