👍

holy hell, Matchbox is really loosing it. Well, it couldn't last forever, we had a good half decade of awesome.

Well not every consumer of Matchbox is a collector, nor are they the kind of people who want their toy cars to look like real cars. You have to admit that the drastic change is eye-catching and can totally sell to kids who aren't old enough to understand how silly it really looks. At the end of the day, it's still a toy car.

That 300SL I thought was amazing for a hot wheel car, but even after finding out it's a little larger, it still has unbelievable style. 👍

On the Matchbox Corvette, I think the car actually looks decent, and I really like the casting. White tires do kill it for me though. With black tires, I'd actually buy that.

Look for this one, Spacegoat - it comes in the '11 heat Fleet Series - same casting, bottomline wheels, tampos not so bad. The Vintage '65 is quite often on the pegs - but they are usually to a side with the Speed Machines, Color Shifters, HW Garage, etc.

Apologies Harry, I totally didn't see this post. :guilty: Anyway, I will definitely will keep an eye for that Heat Fleet Mustang, I'm not the biggest Mustang fan but I really like the casting and the wheels. I actually do have four cars from the Vintage racing series (The 510, Shaker Challenger, Hemi Dart and Gurney's Cuda). I sense more in my future.

And another shot you and SVX might like -

Very nice. 👍

I instructed Danica to get tough with the boys - so she put Terry into the wall.

Yeah - feline wave function clause. Must be Shrodinger's cat. ;)

 👍

Edit: While we are on the subject of 1.43's, I recently found the remains of my childhood Matchbox collection (and I say remains because I swear it was a lot bigger) but this jumped straight out at me.

Matchbox "Super Kings" Ford Cosworth Sierra. I absolutely love the Texaco livery.

Just cut down. Spend only all the money in your wallet. Don't give the keys of your real car away.

Kidding aside, a6m5, just only buy what you want. No one's going to be able to collect every car ever made.

I see that Schrodinger Madertus has been busy . . . that Merc is beyond belief. What a model.

Oh, yeah. I'll still buy something cool I might run into. I've always done that. Mad Manga is probably my last "hunt". ;) And the white Furai.

I was pretty sure he mentioned foamcore on the last page.

Cheers.

Thats awesome. 👍

I'm glad you liked that one, too, SVX - I've seen you do a lot of 'staged' shots, too, but you do a lot of them outside - Frostyboys, too ;) . I guess that is why I like RACECAR's 'garage-look' shots - brought out the characters of the cars and made them more than just models - they were miniature working representations of the real cars. And there are effects we can get with models that we can't usually get IRL - unless we are into CGI or some SFX Stunt Director.
As for the material - I use a wide variety of substrates - that particular one I've been showing recently is primarily Foamcore, but also stiff Bristol Board as well as other support struts of corrugated and plain cardboard. The 'track' look was achieved with a very light wash of grey acrylic using a stiff-bristled flat 1" brush . . . :) haha . . . and so on . . . but, we'll chat about that with tons and tons of pics as we go along, of course - in that Miniature Photography Thread - bring your Pics!
Anything above 1:32 gets cumbersome. But it's possible to make a 'set' - any piece of Course you see in a game, for instance, and then use that as a backdrop with as small an area as a square foot in a cardboard box - that's all your camera is seeing anyway when you are that close up - which is why the smaller the car the better. Small premium cars are awesome to photograph under these conditions because they have fairly good detail for their size. Or modded cars! :)

Thanks for that Harry, it looks really awesome. Somewhere in this thread (2010 I think) someone made a little section of the 'Ring. It was a printed piece of colour paper on wood IIRC. Looked really cool.

I'm not going to quote everybody who had a beef with the MB 'Vette. It's all about the wheels - an immediate mod is needed. I would also take away the white skirting. I don't mind th graphics too much - I'm sure it has that MB quality and 'heft' to it when it's in one's hand.

Spacegoat - Ah! I see you have the other Vintages - the '65 'Stang is the only one with the opening hood - the one in the Heat Fleet '11 also opens. (Same casting) Also that Escort! Nice find, man. What else have you hidden in the woodshed? I'm glad to see the 1:43's come out - I have a bunch and a lot of 'pull-backs', too. Needless to say no one beats my personal 1:43 Pull-back. ;) ;) (Secret mods.)
However there is a new Bimmer that seems promising - made by Kinsmart - which I actually bought from the AUTOart dealer; a really fine machine that runs like the wind. I have occasional weekend races with them that are quite fun. You need a proper drag race track to truly get the best of it.
I would really love to own some of the older Bburagos - especially the Lancias they made before they were bought up by Maisto. Need Euro cars? Look at Bburago - they got tons esp in the 1:18 range. I can't find any 1:64s around here. !:43s are a little easier to source but there is a limited variety.

I'm just lacking commitment man.

Fair enough mate.

;) and thanks 👍. As far as other surprises, I've only got one other Matchbox 1.43 (a Mercedes 190e) that I'll post pics of in the next day or two, Along with a few Hot Wheels that look quite interesting, I know next to nothing about older Hotwheels/Matchbox so any help would be appreciated when I get around to posting the pics.

R1600Turbo
Yeah, see the Matchbox Corvette? And the crap they are doing with the Matchbox cars this year? What's up with that? :yuck:

Oh man, is MB going "rice" cars now?!

Man oh man, now I'm not gonna pick that one up. No way.

EDIT: I went out for a little drive tonight to get out for a minute, so I was thinking of looking at some HWs for the minute. I stopped at a 24hrs Walgreens and i found several 2012, mostly fantasy cars, but I found a HWP Monte Carlo SS '86 at the front pegs, just sitting there. Well, let's just say it's sitting in the "garage" right now :D. Gotta love those G-Body beasts and the sexy boxy designs of the 1980s. 👍

Still no luck on the SA22, STi, Lan Evo X, ZL1 and IROC Camaro, KITT and a few others yet. I'll try tomorrow or later.

I was also thinking what do you guys think of seeing a RWB Porsche 964/930 in the HW line up? After hearing about these beautiful machines, they would look great as a 1:64 or any scale.

I've said it before, I'll say it again; if you need to save your money for anything, don't listen to Cano.

:P

That's one expensive Camaro there. So expensive, I need to get insurance on it. Geico maybe?

But like AOS and Cano said A6, save your money until you find something that insterest you and eBay.

When the HW or MB line doesn't have the car(s) I'm looking for or the year lineup is half-half, I usually have my pitstop time, I'll pick up a car there once in a while if I like it. But sometimes it's rare for me to stop permeantley, because there's always some cool piece of diecast metal that gets my attention.

I'll have to inspire you again to go to E-Bay to throw your money away?
👍

Nah, nice thing about this hobby is that it is not wallet-breaking. I was pretty cheap & practical with it. For me, it's more of what the 🤬 am I gonna do with all these cars!? Actually, I think it was Cano who warned me after I posted that I was filling up my first shoes box with the hot wheels. I have more than one of those boxes filled up now.

Ah, this brings me to something I can post here but hadn't tought about it. Some of you may remember this picture of the very big box where my collection used to reside:

cole001.jpg

There were two more layers of the same under that. I say "were" because this past weekend I finally moved them all out to tiny, more practical 20-slim-case-CDs boxes which I get for free off work.

The reason I did this was because the giant box (it held a foldable table originally) was plenty old and quite raggeddy in the corners. In fact, one of the faces was almost completely torn off already.

It's now way easy to move them around, and if I need to check if a newcome car is a repeat it's also easier, as I've taken pics of what's inside each box and numbered them, so I can reference to pictures instead of having to take out each box every time I need to check out a repeat or an upgrade. I'm doing the same with another relativelly big box right now :nervous:.

EDIT: Extra internets for whoever can identify all the treasure hunts in that picture.

Dude tell me about it. After years of collecting 1.18 scale models, it's a refreshing change not having to pay between $100-$300 for a single car.
