Dude tell me about it. After years of collecting 1.18 scale models, it's a refreshing change not having to pay between $100-$300 for a single car.
Exactly. Only problem is trying to find the cars you really want at the stores.

I don't buy from E-Bay unless it's something I have a really hard time finding, like the Vintage Racing Datsun 510 and Ken Block Fiesta that I bought last year.

Kind of like that Kenmeri Skyline deal with Medigo. They were EVERYWHERE except where he lived.

That one is still rare. Whenever I see it, I leave it for others, but I still don't see that one around much. Knight Rider, I don't know what's going on with that one. I've seen it only twice. I picked up three on the first encounter(there were way over ten in the dump bin), only one I saw the second time I picked up. Not for myself, but to pass it on to others later.

And where I live...I still haven't seen one. :( ;)

Haven't seen the Knight Rider once yet, and that's the new model that I REALLY want. :grumpy: The A-Team Van I've seen probably 3 or 4 times...needless to say I picked it up the first time.

On another note, I'm going back home for the summer from college on Saturday, so soon you lot will be able to see everything I've picked up this semester! :D

If the Knight Rider is going the Ghostbuster route, or Back to the Future, it remains to be seen. Ghostbuster Ecto-1, I never even saw one in the stores. R1600 gave me one, and I had to buy another from eBay so I can open one up(but I haven't opened it lol). Back to the Future DeLorean, of course went on to saturate the market. I don't know what to say about the Kenmeri. The wink smily was for the joke, right?

Check some obscure retail stores that hold Hot Wheels, you may find them there. I managed to find two A-Team vans at Toys R Us. (One at the bottom of the shelf that had fallen off a peg and another at the impulse aisle) I found the Kenmeri at the Dollar Tree, I'm sure collectors in my area don't go there often. Also the Family Dollar sells hot wheels that has several 2011 models. Not sure about the stores in Australia, but look for some that isn't a big name. Might find some goodies there. :) I still haven't found KITT... :(

Went to the local Walmart today with some slightly good-ish news... Pegs are decreasing, so they may restock sometime soon. Along with the dump bin. Hoping they finally get the cases with the Subaru and S2000!

My current goal is to find more Hakosukas and finally get the GT-R R34, R35, and Veyron. :P Will be a difficult one if I'm looking locally. Not willing to go on eBay for them yet...

I'd pay $100 for a 1:18 simply because they are stupidly pretty. The real problem with it is finding a nice place to put them.

As for eBaying for hot wheels, maybe it's just me, but I feel that using it to grab THs defeats the purpose of THs. They're rare because they're hard to find, therefore the real value in them is that moment you find it on the peg at a store and walk out with it. Buying it online or off someone is like handing you all the easter eggs that were hiding in your house.

Not to mention the sometimes estratospheric overprice.

If you're agreeing with me, then why'd you suggest a6m5 to go buy a TH?!?

How much do THs usually go for anyway?

How much do THs usually go for anyway?

Depends on what it is, which can effect it's popularity. VW's tend to bring big money, same with Camaro's. The average new-ish treasure hunt can bring anywhere from $15-50, and may drop quite a bit once the market is saturated with them. Then there's the super rare '67 Camaro I posted a link to earlier that is worth anywhere north of $300 depending on the condition. Obviously cars in a mint blister pack bring a lot more.

Maybe I said that wrong. They're not necessary worth more at first, it's just that scalpers think they are and so the price is reflected on places like eBay. It usually takes a year or so for the prices to level off to their actual values. Like right now, the new Camaro TH that just came out is on eBay for around $50 I believe. That may level off once there's a lot of them out there, to around $20-30.

Oh yeah, they are so pretty (especially Auotart and Biante), the problem is as you said, finding a place to put them. I've pretty much run out of space for mine. That's why I haven't bought one in over a year.

What about a year later? 5 years? 10 years?

I think in the first few years after they come out TH's don't appreciate, if anything they will depreciate because of saturation and people all sticking them on ebay to make a quick buck. The exception is (as R1600Turbo stated) when new TH's are sold immediately.

However after 5,10,15 years as more and more get trashed, lost, damaged they should become more valuable again. Problem is no one knows how many HW produce so they might not be all that rare at all.

Robin.

Sarcasm, dude:tup:

Another factor that affects their price is how old they are. For… like 3 years, from 1995 when they started to 1998 where very few had rubber tires, THs were limited to a worldwide production run of only 5000 units, so they were REALLY limited and freaking difficult to find. Those are the THs that bring the most money, from $50 bucks upwards to the Camaro that R1600 posted and that A6m5 should totally buy.

And of course, all the prices discussed here are for cars with rubber tires, regular THs from when they started in 2007 and onto today are a joke, really. They are not worth more than a dollar. None of them.

Fast moving thread is fast. I thought I was caught up when I went to bed last night, but woke up to two new pages of posts!

Thanks for that link, It'll help massively for cataloging my HW's.

Just use other material then. I'm only using foamcore because I can get it for cheap and cut it super easily without power tools. As for keeping dust out. I'm swapping cars each week so I can dust off the cubicles while I do that.

It's the ease of use and lack of power tools that got my attention, but the best price locally is £3 ($5) for an A2 sheet, approx 17"x24". I have found an online supplier that is less than half that though.

I'm so glad you're interested in modelling the environments - I'll be posting more photos and 'how-to' tips in the Miniature Model Photography Thread.
Proportions are important - this one is more for 1:80s - 1:55s - so mainly made for the smaller cars.

I'm loving your racetrack and the action shots it lets you take. It's beautiful, but beyond what I have the time, space or patience for.

Yeah, see the Matchbox Corvette? And the crap they are doing with the Matchbox cars this year? What's up with that?
holy hell, Matchbox is really loosing it. Well, it couldn't last forever, we had a good half decade of awesome.
I'm not going to quote everybody who had a beef with the MB 'Vette. It's all about the wheels - an immediate mod is needed. I would also take away the white skirting. I don't mind th graphics too much - I'm sure it has that MB quality and 'heft' to it when it's in one's hand.

The wheels are definately the killer here, but with them changed the car should be passable. Still not a patch on the pre-Mattel MB's though.

I went out for a little drive tonight to get out for a minute, so I was thinking of looking at some HWs for the minute. I stopped at a 24hrs Walgreens and i found several 2012, mostly fantasy cars, but I found a HWP Monte Carlo SS '86 at the front pegs, just sitting there. Well, let's just say it's sitting in the "garage" right now :D. Gotta love those G-Body beasts and the sexy boxy designs of the 1980s. 👍

Still no luck on the SA22, STi, Lan Evo X, ZL1 and IROC Camaro, KITT and a few others yet. I'll try tomorrow or later.

I was out of town yesterday with half a day to kill so went HWs hunting outside of my usual area. What a waste of time. I stopped at 6 supermarkets and at least 7 other stores and found very little of interest. In the end I came home with just one car, a Tow Jam that I missed out on last year. That's it...

Exactly and don't you dare mention the A-Team van. :indiff:

...but I did leave one of each of these behind as I already have them. The only car I've missed in the past few years that I seriously want to get hold of (excluding eBay) is the Ghostbusters car. Never seen it anywhere.

I think your production numbers are a bit off. I heard 10,000 for that '67 Camaro, which in worldwide production is still hardly anything. I think most treasure hunts now days are in the ~30,000 unit area, Supers a bit less although I don't know the exact figure.

No, I’m pretty sure that, at least for the first two years, 1995 and 1996, the cars had a 5,000-piece production run, it ever said so in the blistercards. The 30,000 number for today could be possible, they are everywhere now; the only difference is that EVERYONE is aware of them now, specially scalpers.

Back in even 2000 I remember leaving THs in the pegs because they were freaking ugly. You could find 5 or 6 of them without even looking. Of course, that was here. People didn’t start to take serious notice of THs until about 2003-4.

And not, I’m not exaggerating the value of regular THs. Ok, maybe two bucks for some of the early 2007 ones, but no more.

Hey guys, this is my first post and two of the first cars that I have worked on...

Working on a Matchbox Lamborghini Marza right now. Sad to say I accidently melted the "windows" and need to find a parts car...
