HOLLY CRAP.

Oh got damn many many MANY thanks. Any more info on the original maker of this, which, by a quick Googleing aroud, I have found to be made in Spain by Clasicos Paya?

Man, you indeed know your tin stuff, I had no idea where to look for when I got it, and you came up with answers incredibly quick!!! man THANKS a lot!!!
Oh, I don't know nothing about them, but you are welcome. I just did a quick google search, came across an old eBay listing. While that particular listing was long gone, I did another quick search on eBay, and found the replica rather quickly.

OK I just posted pics of almost my whole collection in my gallery found here on GTP. Unfortunately I forgot to take pics of my folks' china cabinet which includes some Opel Calibra and Alfa Romeo touring cars, a '64 Impala Coupe, '71 Riviera and a 1/24th Ferrari F50 and '66 Pontiac GTO. Here's some teasers:

If I have any rare ones, let me know so I can be more proud of it.

That damn Lotus Exige you have! It is the one colour I'm missing.

Same for the Maserati MC12.

You reminded me... I still haven't gotten a 370z yet.

I don't normally. But there are two cars I buy any and as many of.

Mclaren F1 (road car, no race liveries) - I've got x1 1:12, x5 1:18, x15 1:43, x4 1:64, x5 1:87

and Lotus Elise/Exige - x1 1:18, x9 1:43, x6 1:64 (all matchbox colour variations)

OK, now this is frustrating, I've left a lot of Ferrari 250 GTOs on the shelf every time thinking I had one, and now I just realised I don't have a Ferrari F430 coupe either, only the convertible, so really should have gotten the Challenge version on the shelf yesterday.:dunce:

Since my brother moved out recently ive had a bit more space to start sorting out all my toys - the attic was filled to the rafters with LEGO, Hotwheels and Matchbox cars, many of which havn't seen the light of day for more than a decade!

To start off, I am putting all my 'new millenium' Hotwheels on pinboards to display on the wall, and as photos online.

Here's a teaser pic of my treasure hunts, with an error added to fill in space.

1st column, older treasure hunts - 2000 - 2005, all with rubber tyres.
2nd column, cheaper treasure hunts - 2007 - 2008, none with rubber tyres, and the error - a 1932 Ford Vicky with rear wheel reversed.
3rd Column, newer treasure hunts - 2009 - 2010, top three regular, last two TH$ with rubber tyres.

Do you guys get the more expensive ones? I see some for like $10, it's hard to justify the price but the cars are normally completely out of the ordinary and awesome.

So I swung by the super walmart last night, waiting for them to stock the hotwheels. The pegs were half empty, so they had plenty of room to put new cars out. I asked the stocker if they were going to put any out, and got the usual "don't think so". Since I stayed up to watch the Le Mans race, I slept until around 10am. Decided to go check the pegs again, and what do ya know, they filled them to the brim.

Looked like I had been beaten to it by more than a few people, only walked away with a '67 Camaro and a Ghostbusters car. :(

I wish I could find one of the Ghostbuster cars. Big fan of the original movie.

Since I'm not a collector, I'm never one of the first to get to check out the Hotwheels stock. Exception was yesterday, at my local grocery store, they were just setting up a four sided display with hundreds of cars on hooks. Now, I don't know about your grocery store, but Winco, where I frequent, they haven't had shopping basket in years. Just carts. So I already had handsful of groceries, and couldn't quite go through the "just-in" hotwheel inventory. :ouch: But I must say, I don't have much luck finding neat models at department type stores, but I have better luck at grocery stores. They tend to have model I never see at other kind of shops.

Most likely. Altough THs these days have been like normal cars. I left like 30 the other day, 'tween Rat Bombs, Gangster Grins and Cadillacs. Not a single $uper... well, yeah, the other day. A Rat Bomb. I don't know what to do with it. open it? trade it for the Packard, last year's Mustang or GMC Motorhome? Advice, people.

I have my silver SL55 AMG, Silver Jaguar XK and yellow Mustang Concept car (early '00s) to my little cousin today, got them in other colours from multi-packs I bought for specific cars inside them. Aren't I just a nice guy?:sly:

Send some to me? Unless I find a box and open it, I hardly ever find TH's.

Looking at the cars I've recently dug out, there are 304 of which just 14 are THs, so about 1 treasure hunt for every 22 cars.

Looking at it another way, the earliest unopened cars are copyright 2000. Around 120 months have passed since I started buying Hotwheels again, 14 of which are THs, so 1 treasure hunt every 8 or 9 months.

Considering that I have not been looking out for them specifically, that doesn't seem too bad for something that is supposedly rare.

What does bother me now that I've started looking at them more closely is the complete lack of rubber tyres in 2007 and 2008. It makes them seem 'cheap' compared to the earlier THs and more recent TH$ as I mentioned a few post back.

You really want some from this year? We've had bucketloads of 53 Cadillacs and Gangsters Grins and above all, Rat Bombs. The others, tough, have been very scarce. Fancy some of those?

and are you looking for TH's of the past year?

My Collection Minus some that ive obtained since the photo was taken

Picked up another whole bunch this arvo, including a 1953 Studebaker Starliner which is something different. Saw another couple of XB GTs too, and got one for my XB-owning supervisor at work, but his is a GT sedan.;) Got a Ferrari 5 pack too, which I don't think I have any of yet, unless the bottom one is in fact a 599 and not a 612 Scaglietti as it appears.:odd:

I just got my first Rat Bomb this morning, but it was my dad that found it and bought it for me. Got it at a grocery store. Haven't found either of those other cars yet. I have recently found a couple more Camaro TH's. We're a bit behind on the new stuff.

Haven't bought anything much. Most of my searches have just been for the Falcon XB's and some of the older Speed machines.

These are the speed machines I've been getting over the 2 months (and one non speed machine).

I'd love to have that Porsche gt3

Just to compare it with the matchbox one.

The Matchbox is INFINITELY better, trust me. The HW one is scaled a bit odly, it looses points for that even if it's headlamps are clear plastic.

That being said, I cant believe how much sucess the Speed Machines have had, it's a pretty lame series, the paint jobs are ugly, the wheels are ugly and their price is off the charts for what you get. I dunno... I jus't cant see the appeal, specially for their price.

that yellow hot rod is prety neat. what series is it?

Thanks for the info Cano.
I'll get a Siku instead.

I don't see a whole lot of Matchbox cars in this thread, but out of the one's I have purchased, Matchbox cars seem to be little more realistic, and of a slightly higher quality. Hotwheels seems little cartoony compared to them. I'm not trying to put them down or anything, obviously.

Matchbox has very limited selection and availability though. If I do see them in stores, there are very small selection of them, and I very rarely see a new model.

Isn't the Hot Wheels one still a Porsche 996 GT3 while the Matchbox one is a 997 GT3?

I got the Speed Machines S7 the other day, because I dón't like my matte blue one, the rest I left because I already have those cars.

I have a shedload of Matchbox cars somewhere at the back of the attic from my days as a serious collector. There was a period that I recall being something of a completist, and attending 'toyfairs' where I'd pay over the odds to get my hands on rare and foreign models. I'll have to put up some pictures of those when I dig my way back to them.

I think that period of my life ended when Matchbox was bought out by Mattel as I felt the quality of the new models was not up to that of the older ones.

After a few years break and two house moves, I started buying Hotwheels instead. However, with the closing of the two main retailers in this area I have to rely on what I can find in the supermarket, which is usually just the normal cheap ones.

I just got 5 matchbox cars. An evora, a porsche 914, a DS, a VW golf GTI and an Audi R8.
And you're right. The matcbox cars always seem more close to the originals and I always get some when I have the chance. Sadly there are not a whole lot of chances.
Of course Hot Wheels has its bright days too.

I'm still looking for this.

Pitty they picked those wheels, because I think it looks very good.
