What is it?

It's a VW Concept car, S2 or something I think, pretty sure I got it the other day.
Plus, to me it's Matchbox that often seems off with their proportions, but the Hot Wheels XB GT isn't real flash.

Volkswagen SP2. Thanks made it easier to find. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for that one then. Does that mean we are up to a new case already?

What do you mean by a new case? I'll have a look to see if I actually got it, but pretty sure I at least saw it last week.

Do you guys get Maisto cars? Some of them look so far removed from the actual car I usually steer clear, then some look half decent and are rare cars to boot, like that Studebaker Starliner I mentioned. (It'd be pretty awesome to have Studebaker in GT5 :sly:)

Don't quote me on this as it is just my understanding. Each month Mattel ships out a new case (assortment of cars) to retailers. So if anyone orders hotwheels in June they get a certain case, then next month if they order again the cars in the box will be different. Some cars are in a few cases but others are only in one case (ie. treasure hunts are only available in one case. Thats why you don't see the Lamborghini LP640 or the Ghostbusters car anymore even though they are 2010 cars.

Hope that made sense and if anybody knows better than me please correct me.

Damn, I could have sworn I had that SP2, perhaps I merely saw it on the website and my memory is getting confused.

Not. It is actually a production Volkswagen only marketed in Brazil, where it was designed, built and sold in the mid-70s. It's impossibly rare now and they fetch LOTS of money, specially in good shape. the ammount usualy doubles or triples when they are acquired out of Brazil.

As for the boxes that J-Pap mentiones, yes. If you look at the letter codes (for example: K-345364), you can see what "mix" it is and you can know what comes inside the box just by looking at the codes.

As for Matchbox: I think they are in their best form almost ever, only short of the mid-60s black "regular" wheels, their castings are absolutely perfect, while the Hot Wheels cars are starting to loose proportions. both maker's Audi R8s are good examples. Matchbox's is absolutely perfect, HW's is loathsome.

Car-less:

I have a shedload of Matchbox cars somewhere at the back of the attic from my days as a serious collector. There was a period that I recall being something of a completist, and attending 'toyfairs' where I'd pay over the odds to get my hands on rare and foreign models. I'll have to put up some pictures of those when I dig my way back to them.

I think that period of my life ended when Matchbox was bought out by Mattel as I felt the quality of the new models was not up to that of the older ones.

Yes you MUST post pictures of old Matchboxes. Lesneys are awesome. And yes, when the marke was bought by Mattel their quality dropped a freaking lot. Now they've regained it.

+1 👍

New Mystery car. I like the 70's drag logos look to it.

Are they the one's that comes in a blacked out cover? I've bought them for my nephew a couple of times, but we didn't get any cool car in either packages.

I usually give him like three cars to choose from, and both times, he picked the Mystery one's out. I guess the intrigue of "what if?" is just too much to pass up, even for a two year old.

I have collected these forever and i would say i probably have at least 10,000 open and 50 or so T-Hunts and 1 Super T-Hunt.

Those must be the case codes outside the USA. Our case codes are usually just three letters. KLK, etc. Mix "L" is the new batch that is currently shipping.

I was given a $50 gift voucher for supercheap auto a few months back and given that most of the stuff in those shops are utter crap, decided to blow it on some Hotwheels cars.

To go along with this I also bought a Nissan GTR, Yellow Ferrari 250 GTO and an 09 corvette ZR1

First time i've bought hotwheels in years to be honest so i'm pretty well chuffed. I've got a neat little collection of Ferrari's now including an F40, F50 and an F60 'Enzo' as well as the 599, 575, 550, 355, 250 and the Daytona.

Also have a special police edition VS commodore and VT ss commodore which i'm sure Paulie would like.

Oh and what collection would be without a real Michael Schumacher Ferrari

It may takes some time - months, maybe even years, but I do intend to get to them.

For now, here are the 'new-millenium' Hotwheels arranged on ten themed pinboards, each holding 30 cars.

... American Luxo ......... American Mix ......... American Muscle ......... American Sedan ......... Race & Cabrio ...

... Bikes & Freaks .........Classic Hotrods .........Classic Customs ......... Trucks & Vans ......... World & Concepts ...

I see some pretty good stuff here, but nothing I don't have... that's why I want pictures of the old Matchboxes, hahaha

Altough, I see a pretty good array of trasure hunts, and you even have the Comolded 5 Meyers Manx, nice stuff all of it.

By the way, for those interested, the R34 Skyline is starting to hit the pegs in various areas around the states. I haven't seen it yet in my town, but just a heads up...

I got through the bulk of my exams the last few days and had a bit of a break today. Found a few cars and left behind a 599 GTB (Speed machines) that I thought I already had. Now hopefully it wont sell before I go past that shop again. I did find out at least another retail chain that stocks the speed machines.

Also I had a kyosho 1:64 come in the mail today. They seem to be a Japan exclusive. Anybody know a place to get them online bar ebay? I love the selection of cars they come in.

Here is a link to the ones I'm talking about. I got the Black F1 GTR Longtail and an Orange TVR Sagaris.

I'll post what I find and some pictures next week when I do some further shopping.

My local walmarts are starting to get side kicks in. (cardboard displays that hang at the end of the isles) Managed to get one of the stockers to open one for me and I walked out last night with a Super Gangster Grin TH, black V8 Vega, green Buick GSX and blue Ford Fairlane. Gotta keep an eye out for the rest of them to be put out.

Well I posted back on Page 2 but never posted any pics:eek: I will take some tonight and post them. I got some cool stuff from the 90's both HW and Johnny Lightning White Lightning.

First for you guys that are Modding your Hotwheels, I did these back in 1998. I used Johnny Lightning wheels on the HW chassis. I took the bodies off and bead blasted them to remove all the paint. I then hand polished them with crocus cloth. They used to be brilliant, but after 12 years in the box they have lost their luster. I will see if I can polish the passion and take some better pics:tup:

I had an extensive collection back in 2000 since I collected from 1995 to 1999. I sold off most of my collection before the Hot Wheels "Market" died off in 2001. I had every Bus, every mail order car that was offered at that time. I kept a few of my favorites, but still let alot of "good" ones go. I like the fact that many of you open your "Blister" packs and handle the HW's. I have started collecting 1/18 scale Mustangs, primarily the GMP brand, I do take these out of their boxes and display them due to their detail.

Johnny Ligtning "White Lightnings" They only made 10% White Lightnings in a production run. If a run was limited to 5000 then only 500 WL's were made (makes them very rare).

Johnny Lightning "Home Improvement" Saleen/Tim Allen Mustang. (I believe these went to Le Mans).

The "Blister" is original and not altered, I found it at a Wal-Mart. This is an "Error" car, the wheels are track pack wheels and only come on cars in a track set.

Enjoy! I have a few others that I have not taken pics of that I will post at a later date.
