The FE Drag bus was $50. Also the guy I normally buy from at the weekly flea market was there. He is going to buy just about everything that another vendor had left today. He and I are going halves in 100 matchbox cars. So i should have a post of about 50 Matchbox cars in the next week or 2. The ZR-1 shows no signs of being opened and it cost $5.

I like that version of the drag bus. According to South Texas diecast its worth around $50 carded and I couldnt wait any longer to find a cheaper one.

You'd pay $50 for that Drag Bus.

Damn.

That's actually not bad, considering. I never even considered collecting that casting because it's hoarded like crazy and they only use it for special releases now which cost $$$.

I wasn't decieved because the car didn't have the flame logo on it. Never even bought into it.
Yea i see that now. I will keep that in mind.;) I remember VSpec mentioned it was also on the bottom as well. With that being said i guess that means that red corvette zr1 in the pic is obiously not a treasure hunt ether?

That's good reason to decide what to and not to collect. 👍

I can see that, looks like we were all decieved when they made that typo.:guilty: This is embarassing.:ouch:

I wasn't deceived....because I wasn't ever told it was a TH at all... plus, if it was, I wouldn't have found any here, but I already have one and saw like another 6 by now. :P

I finally decided to go through my childhood basket of cars that I used to play in the sandbox/dirt with.
I'll just get the hard part over now and tell you guys that I used to put the cars that got worn so much that I couldn't play with them anymore in a vise or crush them under big rocks.
I did this to pretend that my off-road trucks would drive over and crush them.

This is honestly what the majority of what the basket looked like: :guilty:
Keep in mind though, I was smart enough to crush the already ruined ones.

That's an Olds Aurora race car, (I need your help on this one), an Olds 442, and a Dodge Daytona with WHITE interior surrounding a 911 GT3. :ouch:

Here are the survivors I plan on later restoring/customizing:
I know they're rough, but I want a challenge. :D

Great casting and a lot of suspension travel yields much potential.

Needs some narrower wheels. :yuck:

Sooper cool Johnny Lightning drag Chevelle with...ahem...a bit worn paint.

A Majorette Merc.

A very cool Majorette Ferrari that I wish the roof wasn't bent.
I'll just get a new one off eBay one of theses days though probably.

And this is what I was asking about Road Champs earlier for.
It's a Jaguar XJ-S by them and was in pretty good shape.

I cracked it open to let it soak overnight to loosen up the grime, except I noticed something very bizarre when I pulled it out and put in under hot water to wash it off further...

It changes color when exposed to hot water! I did a test with cold water and nothing happened.

A bit of Googling "Road Champs Jaguar XJ-S came up with nothing conclusive to the cast let alone a color changing model.
Can anyone maybe help me explain why this happens to paint if it isn't meant to in the first place?

Zach, these are called thermochromics - they change color (even from black to white) as the temperature changes.
Thermochromic paints change with temperature. As the temperature goes up, the pigment becomes colorless, revealing the base coat or graphics underneath.

Kind of like the invisible ink (orange juice) we used in our schoolboy spy days.

^^^

Yeah, but I don't think it was meant to do that. I found no evidence stating that Road Champs did an XJ-S with thermochromic paint. Knowing the little about that brand that I know, I don't think they would have made something like that.

Negative. With the new stuff, the $uper and Regular TH's are not related.

2013 Regulars so far:

- Bread Box
- Carbonator
- Camaro Police Car

2013 $upers so far:

- Gran Torino
- Corvette ZR1
- Falcon XB

Jason - what differentiates a regular TH from a Basic car once you take it out of the TH package?
I know the Supers have RRs or better wheels than what usually comes on a Basic - but the 'Regular' THs; what is the difference?
I've also noticed Boulevards with Basic wheels.. . .

If you are seeing Boulevards with basic wheels, then someone is buying them, switching out the wheels and returning them. 🤬 thieves is what they are. If you see that, take them to the store manager and tell them that they are damaged goods and cannot be sold.

Only thing that shows a regular TH is the little flame in a circle tampo.

Yes - I have seen quite a few Boulevards with basic wheels recently - at several stores. I think I may have some iPhone shots - shall try to upload and show you later on - it did confuse me.

So if the only difference is the tampo (on the car) then the Super Treasure Hunts of today are like the old regular Treasure Hunts? And the new Regular Treasure Hunts are Basics with an additional tampo?

Edit: Zach - if you try to heat the car up after opening - and look inside to see if the colour changes inside - if it does, then the dyes are embedded in the plastic - if not and only the outer body changes, then it was painted. Just a theory.

If that's the case then, than the technical term for $TH of Mainline Limited Edition should be used for the normal THs and Treasure Hunts for the $THs. :boggled:

Harry, Matchbox also started chase models, equivalent of Treasure Hunts. They are little bit harder to tell from the mainline cars though. You have to scratch & sniff to see if they smell like strawberries, or if you shake them just right, they will sound like they are saying "buy me! buy me!".

I'm feeling goofy.

like that pancaked ride. I have a few no-name cars I crushed myself. I put some monster trucks on top afterwards :D... It's a really crummy "diorama" (if you will), that I made a couple year ago to get rid of some of my trash. I wanted to hang it on the wall, but it was too heavy so it just collects dust in my room.

What is the matter with you? That is BRILLIANT. Do you realize how much money I could have saved if I did that?! God damn!

The specific name for $uper Treasure Hunts are Mainline Limited Edition and if Treasure Hunts no longer include Real Riders wheels/tires, than Mainline Limited Edition sounds more fitting.

Also, if $uper Treasure Hunts only use Real Riders like the regular Treasure Hunts of yesteryear, than $uper Treasure Hunts should be called regular Treasure Hunts.

In other words, their names should be switched.

Don't stoop to their level. 👎

Errr, no. And where did you hear this "Mainline Limited Edition" stuff? Never heard of it till now.

And regular TH's haven't had rubber tires for a while now.

I take it "Mainline Limited Edition" is what is used for non-collectors.... collectors I assume still use the "TH" jargon.

Super Treasure Hunt just sounds unprofessional even to a company like Hot Wheels.
I just think that the term Mainline Limited Edition was not widely made aware to the collecting community so they came up with Super Treasure Hunt because obviously it's a Super Treasure Hunt.

Indeed, they have only had one "normal" release of that one in my opinion.
That's good reason to decide what to and not to collect. 👍

Yea i was suspicous when i seen several of them yesterday, i knew it wasn't normal for a treasure hunt to appear like that, it's not common for them to be plentiful. (At least for me) Frankly l didn't see ya'll say anything mentioning it wasn't a treasure hunt when it was posted on HWC.

Yea i figured it wasn't based on the info you just gave me. Good thing i held back because i was about to hoard everyone i could find, literally. Thanks for posting the list Turbo, now i know what to expect next time and won't be further decieved from here on out.;)

"Mainline Limited Edition" is not an official term though. In fact Mattel calls them Super Treasure Hunts still. Professional or not, that's what they are called. The $ symbol is often used to replace the S because that is how it used to be printed on the blister cards.

Check the HWC homepage where they currently have the 2012 "Super Treasure Hunts" complete set on sale for $190. ;)
