Picked up a car for customizing. Nothing more, nothing less.
Okay, I've been buying cars for my son and daughter (admittedly, I'll suggest items I wouldn't mind rolling around) for a few years now. My son picked out a couple of Muscle cars, a five-pack last week at Target. This was one of the cars:

It's all plastic, top to bottom. The "glass" is opaque black plastic, so there's no interior detail. And the way it seems to be put together is really shoddy...admittedly, I'm more disappointed than he is. I don't expect full metal cars for the money (around $1 each); since his ability to misplace and drop them frequently, I prefer plastic floorpans. But I don't like where this is going...is it a new trend for Hot Wheels and Matchbox?
Well first of all, nice Camaro! :D

As for your question, it really depends on what the casting is. Some cars are all plastic, others are plastic and metal, and some cars are all metal. The basic cars generally don't have a metal body and metal base. Those cars that do are mainly tailored more to collectors. ;)

I hate to tease, but I had that original back and striped Blown Camaro a long, long time ago. That takes me back...

He has one or two with metal bases (ah, that's the word), but not much else. Still, I can see why it's an addictive hobby - for a buck a pop, you can have a massive fleet. I only wish my daughter could be swayed by a one-dollar toy, there is no such thing anymore (except candy).

Sadly, girls or women that love cars as much as us guys do come once in a blue moon. But, at least candy always wins. Unless you're me. Candy never wins.

@Pupik They are sort of cheap, but like you said, for a buck, I don't expect a whole lot. I do think Mattel makes plenty of nice cars in the mainline(dollar cars).

My start at this hobby was my nephew. "He likes hot wheels, they are just dollar" my brother says. I start picking out cars & what a shocker, I'm picking out all sorts of cars I like. Yet another surprise, I start setting aside cars like Olds 442 & Datsun Bluebird(510) thinking "he's too young to appreciate this stuff". It got pretty addictive after that. :ouch:
Andy has it right, the red wing is a dead giveaway to a fake. And like I said, they retooled the car to have a metal wing that is part of the car. No way they would backtrack to an old casting to make an RLC release.

And I already reported it.
Seller actually mentioned the fixed wing though, saying that final casting is to have it fixed. You guys very well could be right, but at the same time, I don't think it would be weird for Mattel to have early design mule based on existing casting.

P.S. When you report these guys, do you ever get a confirmation from Mattel?

In order going clockwise: '67 Toyota 2000GT, AE86 Sprinter Trueno GT, E30 BMW M3, Pagani Huayra. I actually got these cars on my birthday, but didn't post the picture until just now. :dunce:

Hah, bought three of those for my son; the Pagani is in silver, though. He has a blue E30 M3 as well.

Keep an eye out for the red E30 with a rollcage in the back seat. And it's Huayra. It's easier to remember the spelling if you remember there are only 6 letters. 👍

Sounds like your nephew is an enabler, probably time to cut him loose Shinji. :sly: Also killer GT40. 👍

Thanks man. 👍 My nephew's interest in hot wheels comes & goes. I gave him a Garage Series '55 Chevy Panel(w/real riders) few weeks ago. I told him it was the grownup's hot wheels, and he was pretty impressed by that. :D
Negative.
That sucks. Like I said last night, if they can't even bother to give me a automated confirmation email that they are receiving these tips, I can't be bothered with them. For all I know, it could be going to a spam folder!

Well they got rid of the sticky thread on HWC so I'm sure they just don't give a damn anymore that their own employees steal from them.

Losing the business of one car for the business potential of craze in acquiring "HTF" hot wheels is a pretty good deal if you think of it that way.

They probably run the black market operation themselves now. :P

All about the hype!

Exactly. Imagine that seller was told to sell that prototype by Mattel. They made more profit than they did making 5 cases of mainline garbage.

Considering that the LaFerrari and 911 GT2 993 have appeared on HWC sneak peeks (not sure how long ago), when should we expect to see them on the pegs?

And also...is there a possibility of the Cayenne returning to the MB pegs? Missed out on the purple one... :grumpy:

Turbo Cayenne's pretty sweet. Only one I have is the latest one, and it's sort of red/burgundy though.

Andy probably know this, but boogytoo's one of the coolest sellers to deal with on TTP, because he isn't really like other sellers, he's like Jason. Acts as though as a collector moving inventory. Shipping is as low as you'd expect, or lower. Crazy.

He's been listing bunch of Matchboxes, so I bought too many of them over the weekend? Tonight, I remembered to ask him about those MBZ McLaren SLRs, and he had them! So glad I asked. :embarrassed:

You lack imagination. You are the weird one.
I just don't see why Mattel would go through all that trouble to set up the thread/email system for people to report Mattel to themselves. Whatever, I don't really care. Some people have more money than brains so if they want to waste it on stolen/fake cars then so be it.

It's a joke!

What's not a joke, boogytoo's listing more Matchbox & I ordered yet another couple of awesome Matchboxes. Another bill for me tomorrow!

Somebody should buy this(and remember, combined shippings cheap!).

Kicking myself for missing out on this one.

It's not an impossible situation if we consider how a lot of companies pull off crazy schemes to make more profits. Imagine it. Suppose they were pulling that kind of trick I suggested, you'd be the fool they targeted thinking that reporting that Skyline meant anything. That report system could for all we know only be there to disguise their secret goals with an innocent "honest" email system out to go punish those who stole stuff from the factory. Imagine all that was a setup to fool consumers. The hype for stolen prototypes would go skyrocketing!

Don't you guys watch movies or play enough games to match this level of imagination?!

Whatever, I'm done talking nonsense.

Anyway, my BRE Datsun still says it was shipped on the 31st, but the tracking isn't working. On the tracking screen it says "Pre shipping" so I'm going to call them tomorrow and find out what is up. I want my car damnit!

I never even received any emails! I wasn't worried about it, but now that you've received your confirmation & I haven't, now I'm bit nervous. :nervous:

I tend to agree that TH's are not what it once was.
I agree, some of them look pretty darn ordinary now a days. Namely the Prototype H24. Some are just not as decorative as they used to be in my opinion.

RLC car with a plastic base? Nope. Also, that car was re-tooled to ditch the plastic wing. And the paint looks like a spray can job. Straight up BS.
Not to mention there is a picture of it disassembled in the link.

The other four cars were metal bodies. That said, the green Pontiac GTO in that set looks and feels great, and has a nice balance to it.

While indeed that Camaro casting was all-metal when introduced in the late 80s in black/stripped form like you had it (cool variation btw, kinda hard to find in decent shape today), it morphed into a plastic casting once it was included in a Color changers lineup in the late 90s/early 00s iiirc. There haven't been a lot of versions of that thing lately, but I can see why you're let down, specially if you had it in it's first rendition.
