$uper find, Robin.

Went to Walmart earlier today and hoped to find some errors or variations, but found nothing except for new Decades cars. Picked up the '56 Flashsider.

Opening hood and a metal base, well worth the $2.49. :D

Rare models like that Treasure Hunters, I gave up on. You can't compete with the scalpers & collectors. That's their life. I'd be happy to get 2~3 more Hakosuka Skylines though. I'm sure they'll be easy to find in another few weeks. I have another friend looking for it, too. :D

I completely agree with the treasure hunt thing. I do need this years Datsun 240Z though. :P

As for the Hakosuka, they definitely will start showing up. Walmart got them about a week ago here.

Is that arguably the most colourful Singles packaging HW has ever made?

Possibly.

Nice one, Robin. 👍 That is the car that got me into Hotwheels, but instead of the Treasure Hunt, the standard one. I bought one for my young nephew, and ended up keeping it for myself. :embarrassed: If I see that T.H. version in the store, I know I'd be pretty excited!

SO LUCKY!
It's been almost a year since I've found anything, let alone a Super T-Hunt!

$uper find, Robin.

Thanks guys :)

I was quite surprised it was there because you will always get the diehards who will be there everyday at every hour to get them so I was extremely lucky!

Robin.

We don't have scalpels here. I found two Treasure hunts and a super treasure hunt at once.

The downside is the restocking and prices. The first is nonexistent and the second is quite the opposite.

I didnt make the list. I guess I need to post more so folks get the entire scope of my problem...I mean hobby. (I'm thinking if you count up everything in the 20+ photos on here you come up with a 1000-1500 cars. I have quite a bit more, but have been short on time to post them)

diabolicalwywern, how could I have forgotten you, you are here so often, and a minefield of information! I guess I lumped you in with the rest I didn't mention - like Snaeper, Robin, ranhammerR34, Nurburgthing,J-pap, chinook77, Motortrend, Driving Park, dchPSUone, alex10798, NLxARoSa (did I get that right?) Rich S, The Stig13, D B Coop, uMadson, Inferno251, Paulie, exmonteiro, TorqueHappen, JimPrower, RACECAR, Commodore ben and his glue, Vandenal with his Campbells Soup, $miglo who once purchased 48 cars in 48 hours and Redmonkees with his monster monster-truck collection. I might even have to remember JaiAE86 who sets his crs on fire and binici, who. for some reason I always imagine in a bikini burying cars in the sand!
Just kidding - I didn't forget you or anyone else in the thread - just happened to mention a few that came right to mind'
I have read the thread, DW, and I will never forget the Green Light Black Bandits - your collection is awesome.
And now I'm going to have Ryou, M_Power_FTW, a6m5, and Cano whining that I'm ignoring them - even though they were the first to welcome me to the thread!

There are many reasons as to why I collect. First reason would have to be because it brings back childhood memories and maybe to one day give them to my son, when/if I have one. Another reason would be to show them off. A third reason would be an investment. And lastly, it gives me something to do, hence the hobby title.

Right now, this is what I'm into. It'll probably last another six months to a year, before I lose interest and settle for something else. The only thing I don't like about the hobby is that it's sort of frowned upon if you're older than a teenager.

Also, I don't think I could ever tell a girl I collect toy cars...

Try it and you'll be surprised how many girls love cars. Aa for age-related - I was just watching an interview of F! drivers (including Jackie Stewart) and they had model cars on the table that everybody was playing with.
I think because the 1/64 cars are small and inexpensive they don't get the 'glory' they deserve.
Also - a toy car makes a much better ice-breaker than animal crackers - Ben didn't know what he was missing in the movie Armageddon !

Old question. I think I could simply answer that because I have always liked cars, and these are the ones I can afford to collect. And of course, because they are cool as heck. If you ever try to find a reason for collecting something that doesn’t do anything (cars, cans, figures, old coins, you get the idea), you’re missing the point. You do it simply because you like to do it. And yes, it can also be an investment, and customizing them is way fun. Those may be the reasons-reasons, but the real deal here is because I love to.

Absolutely.

I just like having cool replica's of cars I would like to own but never will. I think for some of us it feeds the "wish I was a millionaire" part of our lives where we would like to purchase a Ferrari but will never have the money to, so we buy a $1 replica and gawk at it all day.

I still get funny looks from parents in the toy isle when I'm going through the Hotwheels. I even had someone as me once "aren't you a little big for those?" I was like, Nope! :dopey:

Here, in Canada, Hobbyists are galore, so no surprise to see older teens, or young adults around the model car aisles.

Collecting is easy - childlike. See a stone, pick it up . . . so collecting is usually associated with younger folk. But collecting can also be a serious business, if you get into the technicalities, and the investment/trading side of any collection - whether it be butterflies or cowrie shells.

My previous answer:

I also show them off at work. I have Back to the Future DeLorean stuck on top of my computer monitor, and I get many compliments. Used to display Ghostbusters car before that. I sometimes pick one up for friends as well. They get a real kick out of them, although they are all in their 20's to 40's. :D

This happens to me all the time. I have started carrying 'spares' now so that I can take the Ford GT they took out of my hands and put some fantasy car (which I don't collect too many of) into their grabby hands. Whether the person is seven or seventy, doesn't matter. If they see me with a hotwheels in my hand or on my desk, its like: "Oh! Can I see that? Wow! I had lots of these!' (If it's a youngster, it's 'Oh! Can I have that?"

(No! Its a TH!)

Looks like either a Ford Ranger or a Chevy S-10. In fact, it looks like the hood even says S-10 on it.

I have. :sly: I was a senior in high school this year and towards the end of year we had less and less to do and every once in a while we had this free period during the day where there weren't any classes going on...so I brought some Hot Wheels and HW tracks and my friend and I set up in the band room (where I always hung out during the year) and raced each others' Hot Wheels for the whole period. And I'm 17. :dopey: There were also several days where I brought in some cars just for fun. My Corgi London double-decker bus became infamous among my friends for the insane stunts it would pull...

Well, some of grow us up with toy cars, and it stays with us. Actually, the older we get, the more addicted. Relationships, career, family, can change our lives . . . and we have not too much time to gather those cowrie shells - but we remember . . . and some of us are lucky enough to still have the cars we had as teens!

Majorettes are pretty :yuck: because they use very thick metal to make them.

I'm like never going to finish painting these cars if I keep having work each day..

Me, too, AOS-!

Very homemade indeed. 1200mm x 600mm x 30mm slabs of dense styrofoam board originally intended as house wall insulation, fabric stretched over them and attached with a lot of small needles on the back side. The same needles are also used for hanging the cars.

I have my carded cars also on display, though not so grandly! I'll be posting pics of that soon. Great work, Greycap!

I see you finally got the green Lambo, Cano! 👍

Finally . . . we won't have to hear any cussing and whining!

Just documented all the cars that I have. I've been putting it off for a while, but now that I finally got it done I can at least say with certainty how many cars I have in my collection.
237 if anyone's wondering. Not only did I document every car I also documented in which box in which compartment I store it.
Yes, I had some free time. And I still do, which is why I'm working on taking pictures of each one. Again, because some of the pictures I took are TERRIBLE.

Apokalipse - you have a nice collection, and a great style of photography - just have to master that focus/lighting bit. Keep at it - it's half the fun - and don't give up on the pics. We always need pics!

Haven't we been over this before? :P

Blister cards = value. Some people, like yourself, appreciate the cars more when they are open and collecting dust. While others collect for the investment and keeping them locked up is the best way to keep them mint. 👍

With that said, if I really like a car and want one to open, I'll purchase two of them.

At least in my case it's more like blister cards = better looking presentation. I'm not going to sell them (for profit, getting rid of surplus cars is another thing) anyway unless I get some serious $$$ for them - not going to happen - but the cards provide great backgrounds to the cars on display.

I think we're all on the same page about blister cards. Obviously if it's rare and 30 years old - for heaven's sake keep it in the bubble. Scratches are a no-no - if we're talking serious collecting. However - they are toys! If I can afford 2, of a kind that I want to preserve in its protective wrap, l'll do it. I have my share of 'display' cars - but the majority are out of their cases.

1979 matchbox Pepsi&Cola :D

I have two of these, $miglo! But never seen that one before!:)

I just stopped, because majority of stores I visit still have old stock. When they still have abundance of old inventory, they are less likely to reorder. Target is just annoying, because my local Target's, they barely have any Hot Wheels, but they won't re-stock either. :dopey:

I'm just gonna wait, as I'm sure I will start seeing bunch of new models eventually. Rare models like that Treasure Hunters, I gave up on. You can't compete with the scalpers & collectors. Possibly.

Yeah. Feel the same. Agree with you guys. Too much scalping going on because wherever money enters the game, there'll be those who find the loopholes.

You lucky man! That's a treasure horde!

Posting this, but will be back with new pics of recent 'acquisitions' and some older, rare ones.

Okay, picture time.

Too late! I'm already on my last sip of Johnny Walker and I've loaded up my shotgun, ready to go. (Damn right I can type drunk!)

See you in hell, photonrider!

No, but really, is that an Escort Cosworth I see there?

Thanks! I'm working on the lighting and it was more the aperture than the focus.

 Ignoring me, obvious from people. :P

Anyways,

Got this nice little Hyundai today, not bad.

And about FBD, I forgot about it, I'll get back onto it soon.

Ryou, you got a Hyundai there. :P

BTW everyone, I have many new cars to show that I got from two semi large lots on eBay. Also, I've just finished painting another car yesterday and will paint another car today, so lookout for two new customs as well. Will try to get pics of everything when the cars are done at the end of this week. :)

I guess they're extras that he might have and/or doesn't want, as he just posted a display of vehicles about a page back.

Cano- A green flat out 442 (as part of a three car lot) ended yesterday on eBay. I was outbid with less than 5 seconds so the lucky winner won the three for 32.50 with shipping. Other two cars were MTN Dew stocker (4-5 bucks) and the kooaid wacky warehouse Gulch stepper (5-6 bucks)

@photonrider -- I accept your reasoning :dopey: though the seriousness of my claim was

That’s a good penny, but that’s what you can expect for such a rare car. It will be difficult to attain, indeed. Maybe in a bigger lot, so the big expenditure can be more justified.

I was also looking in E-Bay at a made-in-Mexico Long Shot, but the damn thing went trough the clouds: 74 bucks! It was one of two that I have ever seen with the front bumper complete. Damned money, lol. That will have to be one of those “patience” pieces.

The rarer the car, the more I'm play the waiting game. Speed machines are driving me crazy though. Its like everyone ever made was kept under lock and key and the ones that get out are still $$. With the green Flat out, I'm willing to sacrifice 15% of the cars beauty to save 50% on the cost.

haha, your Supra is still on hold. Im trying to get a new head for my Dremel so it'll handle a bigger drill, because the rivvet of the 80s cars is quite bigger and quite stronger than the later cars, and I don't want to destroy the rivvet post.

also, I talked with my friend. They don't have any light blue paint, so I'll have to see where I can get some.

In the meanwhile, I can show you a bit of the stuff I did these days:

I had already showed you this WRX ricer from Muscle Machines; not my cup of tea, but their extreme detailing convinced me to keep it intact instead of canibalize it's wheels, the original purchase intention:
-snip-

Problem was, it lacked it's exhaust:
-snip-

So the other day I grabbed a pen, opened it, measured, then cut a piece of the ink tube with my cutter and coated it in Model Master's Chrome:
-snip-

It looked like this after a day of letting it sit so it'd be dry. See the jarred part over there? After that I let it sit for a day -_-
-snip-

And voilá!
-snip-

So, there goes, another quick fix and this car can now be considered part of my collection. I'll post pics of more quick fixes soon, as well as several wheel swaps I've been performing lately.
I dig that STi, definitely a win in my books.

Has HW ever made an Impreza '98-'07?

Also, my store unloaded the 2 pack cards.... Expect a few neat ones on Saturday.

I'm not sure about any '98 Imprezas, been looking for a 22B for years! But I do have two rally Impreza STis as the 2004-2005 from the Hot Wheels track car series! One is white with black and red livery and the other black with dark green, love those cars! :D

And Matchbox has the 2006-2007 STi as a police car, I've seen three versions of them, but I didn't buy them yet. :grumpy:

And I have a huge collection from when I was a kid all the way to today. I'll post the cars names and their series up later.

2010 Dirt Track Race 5-Pk is the only one I've ever seen IRL, but I didn't want to spend 9$ just for that one car. :grumpy:

but I DO want this one, ever so badly:

OH YES, ESPECIALLY WITH PETTER SOLBERG'S NAME ON THE WINDOW.

(Yes I'm a bit of a fan of him.)

People:

E-bay arrived!!!!

IMG_4489.jpg

This is only what I kept for my self. Not included in these pictures are the cars that I’ll be selling or trading. Let’s take a closer look.

The most relevant cars are placed at the front of course. The smashing piece here is the Real Rider Street Rodder in white with flames, very rare and almost mint. Other fine cars are, of course, the Real Riders, the Lesney Mercedes ambulance and, FINALLY, after years and years, the Poison Pinto. No, the small, Lesney Austin Healey in green isn’t a 1960’s original but a 1992 reissue. If it was original this picture would be woth three times what it’s worth as you see it.
IMG_4491.jpg

Moving up we see a slew of mid-80s Matchboxes, a few Corgis, a brand that my collection was dramatically lacking, but in this shipment several arrived, soI’m happy. The black Mercedes 540K will receive a repro top… once I fabricate it. The Castrol funny car is cool too. We can also see the two Majorettes that Wyvern sent me, the red Morgan and the silver Excalibur, for which I’ve found something that’ll cover the lack of a top. I’ll show you soon.
IMG_4492.jpg

At the right we see more Corgis and Matchboxes including the Land Rover tow truck, the Hot Chocolate VW Bug funny car in mint condition, the Mini HaHa, Peugeot Qasar concept and the GM Tow Truck with metal base. See that HW 1940 Ford in a rare, metallic rose color, and the 1934 Ford in blue with black fenders? They are both custom cars that arrived that way, came in a lot. Both are pretty well achieved but have scratches over their new paint. Not that I care. We also see here the HW mail truck with plastic base, that complements perfectly my metal-base one.
IMG_4493.jpg

Down from there, we see what is undoubtedly one of the rarest cars in my collection now, the Good old pick-m-up in wine, with white-hub Real Riders, at the very front. The VW bug cop car is a very old corgi and in great shape too. And finally I got my hands in the orange version of the Packin’ Pacer. The hood-up E-Type Jaguar is Corgi, and both Plymouth cop car and ambulance are Zylmex.
IMG_4494.jpg

At right we see the very rare alternate color –green- Sir Rodney roadster that Wyvern sent me, proudly sharing space with a 1996 Treasure Hunt 1940 Woody in eye-scorching yellow. This thing is from way back when the THs were REAL treasures, limited to 5,000 pieces worldwide. The green Forest Ranger Real Rider is absolutely mint, as is the rare Playart Kübelwagen. Mustang, Dart and Barracuda are Johny Lightnings.
IMG_4495.jpg

Movig up we have the mid-80s Red Baron, more Corgis including the ladder fire truck in mint condition, a Zamac Sol Aire, the metal-box Oshkosh snow plow, and the yellow tow truck in almost mint condition… but missing entirely it’s hook. I was damn pissed about that one.
IMG_4496.jpg

To the right of that, yet more Corgis including the mint Coke truck, the mud racer and the very rare 3d gen Trans Am. The camo-painted six-wheel monstrosity is HWs Space Vehicle, rare in military trim. Both Penske Indy Cars are by HW, and yes, they are different.
IMG_4497.jpg

And finally, more Real Riders, the silver Jeep Scrambler and the pink Cal Customs Baja Bug. The green Bywayman is in good shape, but missing the front snow plow, got dammit. The 007 Lotus-turned-submarine is also Corgi, and also mint, at last. And I received my first Aurora, the cream, small, 250 GTO Ferrari.
IMG_4498.jpg

Yep, joy.
