1000 Miles junkies . . .

What I'm hoping to run against is the Corvette Sting Ray, the Jag and the Benz. But I haven't hit a lineup with all of them in it. Does anyone know if its even possible?

So far I have gotten line ups that have only one of the mentioned cars, but not two or all of them.

I had that line up when I ran the 1000 miles with a stock '69 Z/28. The Sting Ray and Jag put up a fight but the Merc fell behind.

Yeah just won my second race with no trouble at all. I did increase the HP with a computer chip, exhaust and stage 1 turbo because the Alfa seem to stay out on the track forever only to finally go in to the pits on lap 25. I could only manage 15 laps before i had to pit. I was lucky in the first part of the race because the Alfa couldn't overtake the Honda. so i built up a 30 second lead before i had to pit. When the Alfa finally overtook the Honda he never caught up to me only a little when i went into the pit. I came first and the Alfa Romeo Sprint GTA was second and the Honda S800 was thrid then the VW Karmann Ghia Coupe in forth and the Mini Marcos was fifth and lucky last the Fiat 500 in last spot. I won 7 A-Spec points this time.
Next track Cõte d'Azur.

Yeah, that seems to be the typical lineup that will pop up.

Lets see if I can guess the colors of the cars you are running agains't.
Alpha is red.
Honda is yellow.
AI Marcos is blue
VW is tan
Fiat is light blue (Maybe I have the Fiat and VW colors flipped)backwards.

That seems to be what I have run across in the past.

My Mini Marcos is blue
Alpha is white
Honda is red
AI Marcos is green
VW is orange
Fiat is dark green.
Sorry bad luck mate. :sly:

Another easy win betting the Alfa by one minute it got stuck behind slower cars for most of the race. This time I won 31 A-Spec points. One more race to go Circuit de la Sarthe II.

So has anyone else tried the European Classic Car League races?? If you're not familiar, these are just a lap or two featuring some classic cars (but only European ones).

At first, I thought these were kinda sucky because a lot of the 1,000 Miles opponents don't show up. But if you're patient enough to make sure these guys show up:

Ginetta G4

Lotus Elan

Alfa Romeo GTA

the ECCL can be quite a blast. :mischievous: Sometimes, lesser Alfas (the Spider & Sprint Speciale) can even take the lead if the faster guys screw up.

I've been doing these in a '63 Giulia Sprint Speciale with just stock power (114 bhp) and tranny. I had to use S1 tires at the 'Ring, but at all others, I've been using N3s. Sometimes, I'll use a sport suspension, sometimes I'll go all stock, depending on how challenging the race is.

The trick is, to save your game between each race. This way, if you start one and blow away the opponents, and want a better race, you can just start the game over.

I had one race at Suzuka man..it was so funny. The Ginetta and GTA both slid off into the sand!

img0127.jpg

Leaving me competing with an Alfa Spider.

img0128.jpg

What's interesting is that you expect the Ginetta to drive badly, but the Alfa GTA is usually a stablehorse. The Ginetta didn't push the GTA off-course either, as can be seen..the GtA screwed up on its own. This simply highlights the greater unpredictability of this raceseries.

Some other highlights: at Nurburgring, the Ginetta got an 8-second lead on me while i battled the two Alfas one by one. The other cars were two Fiats...they got far behind! Anyways, the Ginetta wiped out predictably, and I eventually got into the lead. Towards the end of the race down the final long straight, BOTH the GTA and the Ginetta caught up with me...it was a three way battle down the straight. I actually lost that race :grumpy: but boy was it intense...

Deep Forest Reverse was better. Same story...the Ginetta got a multi-seccond lead while I eventually caught up to and battled the GTA for most of the 2nd lap

img0131.jpg

...then the Ginetta wiped out! By the time me & the GTA made it to the final tunnel...all 3 of us were neck and neck! :scared:

img0132.jpg

I only got ahead because I know it's possible to drive on that wide concrete area after the final tunnel while the opponents brake because they see this area as a tighter curve than it really is.. Anyways, I won by .504 seconds here.

Anyway, these races are interesting....it's like doing "1,000 Miles Lite".

Technically the C2 is a proper "Sting Ray" but the C3 is not. Sting Ray = split window = 63 only.

62-67's (C2s) are Sting Rays.

69-76 (c3s) are Stingrays.

Technically, a 68 is a Stingray as well, as Chevy called it a Stingray in advertisements, but the 'Stingray' badge was not placed on the car.

77-82's are C3s as well, but the Stingray badge was not used, and Chevy stopped using 'Stingray' in ads and vernacular.

The Sting Ray and the Stingray were never different models or trim levels, but just a badge, and a name.

I have a 79, and people always tell me, 'Nice Stingray' out in public. I just say thank you and go on.

I can't play GT4 at the moment but even I, creator of the '..Real Racing Simulator?' thread, was a sucker for this event. The Nordschleife is one of the few tracks in GT4, or indeed in any racing game that I've found to be just as enjoyable in a 120hp Lotus Elan as it is in a 600hp Viper GTS-R. I was also a bit of a sucker for the Alfa in 1000 Miles!, if I remember correctly.

I finished my final race the other day winning 7 A-Spec points completion the series with maximum points. After I finished the series I checked the 80's used cars lot and to my surprise there was a used 60's fairlady so i bought it. I'm thinking of using it for my next attempt.

The Fairlady is quite a car. Especially if you go up against one.

I would rank it up in the top 5 in cars that can easily beat the 1000 miles event.

What color did you happen to buy?

The ECCL is a great event to run. If you don't care about A-spec points, you can tune a Fiat 500 to beat the Elan and any of the other "lower-rated" cars. Naturally, it has A LOT of trouble against the AC, Merc, and Jag. And if you're really looking for a challenge, you can win 200 pointers in the Citroen 2CV. The VW KG and the classic Beetle are also great candidates to use...

I'm surprised some of you junkies haven't used the SKYLINE BLRA for the 1000 miles! event. If you're looking for tight races, the BLRA is a great one to use. It's not over-powered, and won't lag horribly behind the others. Dirty driving isn't needed to win (unless you consider Blocking as dirty), and I'm confident someone out there can sweep it without using the bottle.

And for some other great suggestions for these and many other events, I'll repost the link to Smallhorses' and hispeed's VERY informative thread...

While I'm very active in that thread, and the current custodian of the job of "List Maintainer", I can't take credit for the thread itself :guilty:, that honour belongs with hispeed, the creator of the thread and initial concept. 👍

Cool, I'll check it out. I don't care about A-spec points, I'm just after the rush. :D

Got ya. I was just curious where you were in the used car cycle. If you keep your eyes on the Historic lot there is also a Red (wk43), Silver (wk46) and White (wk51) Fairlady that pops in.

The yellow one apepars on wk70. So it will be a while untill they begin to appear again.

Hi everyone I've been trying to B-spec (shock horror) the second 24 hour sarthe race. I'm using the Audi R8 race car and everything goes great until on the loooonnng straight, Bob decides to become suicidal and rams the car into a wall, on the straight! Travelling at 350+kmh

Now my bob is very skilled, got like 7-8k skill points.

I've tuning the car so that its low and got stiff suspension, but I don't think that's it. Something is causing Bob to veer left or right depending on his fancy.

ANy idea what could be causing this?

Did you just pick a thread at random to post that in?

What has B-speccing Sarthe 24hr in Audi R8 race car in the Endurance Hall have to do with running A-spec, pre-1970s road cars in the 1000 Miles! event in the European Hall?

Your answers are found in this thread:

What is happening to some people in the Sarthe enduros?

so post any further thoughts there after reading through all 15 pages to find the solution to your issue. 👍

Please don't take this topic any further off topic by replying in this thread, unless it's to discuss the cars that you have completed 1000 Miles! event in in A-spec mode, or the car that you're currently running in this event. ;)

It's good practice and good manners to at least read the title of the thread that you're posting in, and the first post in the thread so you've some idea what it's about! :)

Wow . . . Post 108 is a bit random.

Ok, I'm hoping this weekend I'll be able to start my 5th run through the event.
Car of choice is still the GTO . . .

Wow, i loved it when i raced in this event. I used a stock chevrolet chevelle ss 454, which is one of my fav cars in the game. Nothing beats an american muscle car in this event, but thats my opinion, others will probably disagree. I used A spec the whole race (i dont use b spec). I think the next time i race in this event ill use my 70' plymouth superbird.

I wouldn't disagree. I've used muscle myself. I just make sure the Cobra shows up, so I have someone to race against.

Welcome here allen of cars.

Hey, meant to drop by in this thread earlier but only just got around to it! Though i've only done the whole event once, just because of the amount of time it takes, i fairly regularly do a few laps in the Nurburgring or Le Mans races for fun. The older cars are some of my favourites to race, and i try to make sure the battles are as close as possible. Among the best were a true david v goliath battle between a C2 Chevrolet Corvette and me in a tuned (i forget to what level) Mini Marcos GT round the Nurburgring.

Though my all time favourite GT4 race was at Le Mans between the AC Cars 427 S/C and me in a C3 Corvette Stingray with tuned gearbox and N2 or N3 tires... We swapped places 3 or 4 times per lap as he would get past on acceleration out of the corners, but i could beat him on corner entry speed and consistancy. Though it took a long time to match the cars top speed, to stop either of us pulling out a big lead on the straights, it was definitly worth it. I still have the car specially for that one race, haha!
Great thread though guys, hope it picks up a bit soon!

Well this is my first post in the forum and I've learn't an awful lot from just reading others comments. I've been wanting to do this event for some time and as, I'm writing this, I'm currently paused on my final pit stop of the the 25 lap nurburgring race. It's been a tense race and I'm still convinced it's going to take a miracle to win this after a very badly thought out (or not) pit strategy! My direct competition, the Alfa GTA has one more pit stop, by my calculations and I'm hoping that will give me the edge I need to slip past and take the win. Between my last pit and this current one I was running approx 50 seconds behind the Alfa. I'm driving the 70' Skyline GT-R and not doing too badly considering I'd only done 2 or 3 laps of the ring before entering this event, although I'm not looking forward to Sarthe.:nervous:

I was wondering if you guys and girls change your oil during the event or will it be ok till the end of all 4 races?
My car was new with 0 miles apart from gear ratio tweaking mileage directly before the race.

Great forum by the way, still reading all the tips from various posts.

Hi Festa.

The stock oil that comes with a car when you buy it new will last about 1000 miles before starting to degrade. So you should get most if not all of the series done without noticing any HP drop. If you changed the oil then you'd only get about 250-300 miles out of it before the HP starts dropping (tho' of course that HP would have been enhanced by the 'performance' oil).

The big change you will see is that the chassis wear will kick in at about 250-350 miles and that will affect the handling somewhat if you don't pay to have it 'fixed' between races. If you find you can live with the odd random handling quirk then press on and save yourself the cash :D.

Welcome to the mad house,

In regards to changing your oil, being that the event is only 1000 miles you would very little performance from your car. I myself rarely use oil change during any event.

But horses for courses IMHO.

I wouldn't do this for any endurance or any race over 10 laps. You'll get a bump in horses after changing oil, but throughout the race, you're gonna lose this bump. This can create a bad situation. If you're having a close race (or struggling) early on, you might not be able to keep up with the Ai later at all.

I lost a few races in my GT3 days due to oil going soft. :grumpy:

Thanks for the quick responses, to my question, which I soon realised was a little pointless as you'd not be able to do this during a 24 hour endurance race!:dopey:
I won the last two races and now 2 thirds through Monte Carlo and as I thought the stupid Alfa pitted on the last lap which helped lots not to mention watching him wipe out in front of me on the 21st lap just after overtaking me.:sly:
I've been reading some of the race reports and have to say there seems to be an awful lot talking rubbish........here
I thought the point of this race was to run stock power and that you could tinker with the weight, running gear and tyres, not increase your horsepower. Saying that though, the one thing I've noticed about GT1-4, the rules tend to be a bit vague!:indiff:

Yes, I'll agree with that 100%: the rules are kinda vague in GT4, other than tire requirements and sometimes drivetrain requirements, NA or turbo, etc.

Running stock power in the 1000 miles races isn't a necessity. You can add power if needed to keep up with the Ai--so long as the race is still a relatively close one. In this particular thread, however, the general consensus is that true 1,000 Miles Junkies will do as little to their car as possible, since the Ai is definitely stock or nearly so.

So somebody who shows up with full-custom this and full-custom that, and then wonders why they're laps and laps ahead of the opponents and calls these races "boring" isn't getting the point! :grumpy:

I'm one that feels as though the Ginetta is far too fast for this event. I'd like to run the event again with an Elan S1...
