The stage 3 shaved off quite a bit of weight, so I did feel it was needed. The more weight I can get off that front end, the better it goes around the corners.
The extra money could have been spent on super soft tires for ultimate handling instead of medium tires.
Super Softs are far too grabby for my driving style, I keep cutting the inside of the corners and mowing the grass.
Plus I plan to use this car for some races in the Amateur and Pro leagues, so spending $45K on a set fo tires that I won't use more than a couple times just isn't very cost-effective.
Stage 3 clutch is too much and isnt really needed.
Keeping the factory clutch wouldve saved money and you could then have gotten more power into the car.
Being that this car is front-wheel drive and naturally aspirated, I'm relying more on acceleration than top-end speed to bring in good lap times. And seeing that this car's factory clutch has a painfully slow shifting time, the triple clutch was required in my opinion.
Another thing that determined my upgrading was that putting too much power into a front-wheel drive car makes it tougher to turn through corners. Since the front wheels are pulling the car along, getting on the gas while in a turn makes the acceleration drag the car towards the outer wall rather than "push" it like a rear-wheel drive would. Plus I don't really think smoking the front wheels every time I come out of 1st gear will help my lap times any.
Brake balance controller is not necesarry either and more money could have been saved for more power.
Oh, it's needed all right. The Acura has surprisingly weak brakes at stock setting even with the sport brakes, so it definitely needs the controller to firm them up. Also, tuning an FF car for my driving style usually includes making the rear brakes stronger than the front to get the back end a little loose in tight corners.
Also, the Stage 2 NA tune would have only put in about 25 more HP than the Stage 1 if I remember correctly, so I'd rather work on improving the handling rather than bullying the car around with brute force alone. In fact, considering there's only one or two places on Complex String where the car can really be opened up, I don't think dumping a ton of horsepower into the car would benefit it much anyway.
Not bad times, but with the medium tires it hurt your times bigtime.
As I said, the time was pre-tuning. Once I get it set up for my driving style (and medium tires are a part of that setup), I'm sure I can cut it into at least the low 4'50 range with practice.
