Nice chat GTS-R_MAN.

Thats cool, I had company arrive as soon as that happened. Heck, I thought you got mad or the parents may have cut you off.
You know how parents can be with you chatting with strangers on the web. ;) :)

I tested some cars again. First I got a RUF 3400 S. I spent 149,590 on it. Best lap time was 4'27.382.

Then I tried an FF car for a change, FIAT Coupe Turbo Plus. On this one I spent 149,130 cr. Best lap was 4'42.216. Couldn't get rid of all the understeer.

One thing i've noticed to be very important is to buy the super soft tires, no whatter what the car.

Did everyone else get tired of this challenge or what? I haven't seen any new times from anyone but me.

And me. I just posted mine yesterday and probably have the most times posted in this thread.
No problem though.
Oh, good times Jonik, I may have to try the Ruf myself.
Everyone, the challenge still stands if your still interested.

dude misnblu ur not showing up in my buddylist and i cant im you whats goin on....

Right now Im not on AIM and no, I still havent seen your challenges.
You need to give me a url or link so I can check it out.
Ill go on AIM.

I think i am gonna let this contest go. Fun playing..thanks for the challenge LoudMusic.

Make a new challenge, this was a cool idea...but i wanna see what else you can come up with.

I also would appreciate a different track. Prefecting this track could take 1 year. I have done midfeild with my 787b for atleast 2 months and i still am not near perfect.

It's probably time to pick a new course and dollar amount. I'm not sure about frentzey's time, but whatever.

Does anyone have a track suggestion? How about a rally?

~LoudMusic

hmmm....

maybe the TEST TRACK

just kidding. I don't know. What about a limit where you pick a car under $50,000...but fully modded. That might work....

Figured I may as well give this a try, since I have to spend some of this enduro prize money...

I decided on an Acura 3.2 CL Type S, since there's few FF cars represented. The expense sheet reads out like this...

34230 Car
250 Oil Change
1100 Stage 1 Weight Redux
5300 Stage 2 Weight Redux
21000 Stage 3 Weight Redux
22250 Medium Race Tires
4600 Triple Plate Clutch
1000 Racing Flywheel
10200 Race Gearbox
16000 Race Suspension
4600 Sport Brakes
10300 Brake Balalance Cntrl.
1250 Racing Chip
4600 Race Muffler
5250 Port & Polish
4700 Stage 1 NA Tune

146630 Total

...So at least I think I'm leading in the "least money spent" category. ;)

Anyway, I did a quick test run without doing any tuning, and came up with a time of 5'10.254.

Things to work on:

* The rev limiter kicks in 3/4 of the way down the main straight.
* It understeers like mad in tight corners, especially so in the 90-degree turns.
* Control feels dodgy in the expanding circular turns.
* Braking feels weak when slowing from high speeds.

Other than that, it seems to do fairly decent for a front-wheel drive car with 359HP, which is at least 300 less than what most people are running with.

I still haven't been able to spend much time on this as I would have liked. But hey, I put 700+ mile son my real life car this weekend. Kinda cut into the GT3 play time. I think Complex string was a great Idea. The other two I would suggest is a 200,000cr limit on Grand Valley, and a 100,000 limit on Trial Mountain.

The other possiblity is spend 100,000 on a car, and give your best time to complete amateur FR at trial mountain. It's a world of possibilities, only limited by your imagination.

Let us know of your choice LM. I'm waiting...

AO

Yeah, I was thinking about making it some kind of machine regulation as well. FRs and MRs are everyone's favorites, so we'll probably do something like that. I'll play around with GT3 tonight and see what I come up with.

Instead of spending so much for the stage 3 wt redux, you only really needed the stage 2.
The extra money could have been spent on super soft tires for ultimate handling instead of medium tires.
Stage 3 clutch is too much and isnt really needed.
Keeping the factory clutch wouldve saved money and you could then have gotten more power into the car.
Brake balance controller is not necesarry either and more money could have been saved for more power.
These are just some of the things you can do to improve the car and better your times.
Not bad times, but with the medium tires it hurt your times bigtime.
Try setting your camber to 2.0 and 1.0 for the front and rear respectively.
Not bad again and hope to see a new challenge soon.

I agree fully. I spend all my money on shocks and improved handling. There is usually enough left over for an engine tune up or a turbo to get a little extra speed out of the car. But the important thing is to be able to zip through the technical pieces of the track.

Hey, let us know when you come up with the next challenge.
Im waiting in the wings for more punishment. :D ;)

The stage 3 shaved off quite a bit of weight, so I did feel it was needed. The more weight I can get off that front end, the better it goes around the corners.

The extra money could have been spent on super soft tires for ultimate handling instead of medium tires.

Super Softs are far too grabby for my driving style, I keep cutting the inside of the corners and mowing the grass.

Plus I plan to use this car for some races in the Amateur and Pro leagues, so spending $45K on a set fo tires that I won't use more than a couple times just isn't very cost-effective.

Being that this car is front-wheel drive and naturally aspirated, I'm relying more on acceleration than top-end speed to bring in good lap times. And seeing that this car's factory clutch has a painfully slow shifting time, the triple clutch was required in my opinion.

Another thing that determined my upgrading was that putting too much power into a front-wheel drive car makes it tougher to turn through corners. Since the front wheels are pulling the car along, getting on the gas while in a turn makes the acceleration drag the car towards the outer wall rather than "push" it like a rear-wheel drive would. Plus I don't really think smoking the front wheels every time I come out of 1st gear will help my lap times any.

Brake balance controller is not necesarry either and more money could have been saved for more power.

Oh, it's needed all right. The Acura has surprisingly weak brakes at stock setting even with the sport brakes, so it definitely needs the controller to firm them up. Also, tuning an FF car for my driving style usually includes making the rear brakes stronger than the front to get the back end a little loose in tight corners.

Also, the Stage 2 NA tune would have only put in about 25 more HP than the Stage 1 if I remember correctly, so I'd rather work on improving the handling rather than bullying the car around with brute force alone. In fact, considering there's only one or two places on Complex String where the car can really be opened up, I don't think dumping a ton of horsepower into the car would benefit it much anyway.

Not bad times, but with the medium tires it hurt your times bigtime.

As I said, the time was pre-tuning. Once I get it set up for my driving style (and medium tires are a part of that setup), I'm sure I can cut it into at least the low 4'50 range with practice.

You bring a good point to all of this and make me want to drive a ff on this challenge. :)
Thank, I think Ill do that before the next challenge in on.

Man, I'm still waiting for a chance to run more than 2 laps in this one! I know I can get my Evo 6 down from 5':00" to the 4':45" zone at least. But I need more seat time!

Neon_duke runs into the same problem I have. Juggling work, wife and kids (I've got parrots though). I'm betting duke sees the Game 3-4 hrs each week. I managed to get 4 hours in yesterday, and used it for pursuit of 100% instead of the 150,000challenge...

;)

My best FF car time is with FIAT Coupe Turbo Plus, 4'42.216. The Super Soft tires really are more crucial on this track than you'd think.

Well, 100% is an admirable goal. Though it's just a number on a screen, I some how felt better for beating the game. Bust of luck to you! And don't waste too much of your precious personal time playing a silly little video game.

i thought i would try out one of these online competitions. never had much interest in any of them, but this one sounded like some fun :D i bought a Tuscan Speed 6, gave it some upgrades and hit the string. i just completed my first 2 laps ever with the tuscan on the string, i got a pretty good time on my 2nd lap. once i get the hang of this car (when i have some more time) i think i will woop that ZO6.

Tuscan Speed 6 4:21.734

i always hated this car. but i think i'm gonna like it after this. 😈

wanted to make sure i was under 150K. just added it up, and i was right...hehe $149,880.00

im gonna try a few different combos, see which one turns out best. toodles!

Eeeks! I know I need to update the leaderboard on this thread. I scanned through real quick and didn't pick up on anyone with better times. Can someone help me out?

This is what's in the first post right now.
