:ouch: :ouch: :ouch: :ouch: :ouch: :ouch: :banghead: :banghead: :irked: 🤬

I must have knocked the analogue stick when I put the controller down... so I hit "exit" instead of "continue". So that was 260mins for absolutely nothing.

Or maybe not... I did learn a tad.

T1: 2min 25.401 (only ~14secs behind thegreatms)
T2: 74min 57.025 (that hill really takes some time to get up- thegreatms would be somewhere along near Kesselchen by now)
T3: 76min 23.608
T4: 78min 49.430 (Metzgesfeld - I actually went off for going too fast!!! )
T5: 177min 02.648 (Ex-Muhle to Kesselchen = painfully slow)
T6: never made it :grumpy: by this point, the greatms would be well into his second lap.

So, that proves the 1886 Benz Patent Wagon is at least capable of going that far. In GT Mode. TCS at 1, and zig-zagging the hell out of it. Top speed was 70mph exactly at the bottom of Fuchsröhre.

Rest assured, I will be back, and I will get that thing around one complete lap.

Sorry about the exiting of the lap Renesis, I feel your pain... :ouch:

Otherwise you're on track for a lap of the Wagon in GTmode eh, very good work...
:) :) :)

I did that once. From the pause menu I wanted to turn left as soon as I started back up so I hit the left turn in the keypad first and then hit the gas. I didn't realize the hitting the left keypad made the curser move down. Very disheartening.

I think I am going to give GT mode a try.

Left=DOWN! Obvious really.

Good luck with GT mode! đź‘Ť

I have family obligations tonight and tomorrow night, so you probably still have 'til the weekend. Unless of course I decide to just "start" the race (and I use that term loosely) tonight as that usually means that despite my best intentions to finish the next day, I usually keep going.

I started going around the ring in the Wagon in GT mode last night. I got past T5 in about an hour. I was so focused on the speedometer that I missed the exact time. I lost a fair amount of time becasue I broke too much on the down hill turn just after T4 and didn't quite make it to the end of the fence coasting up the right hill turn.

GT mode is very unforgiving. It you don't make your turns just right when slingshotting, you are backing up and wasting time. I think it is a mistake to try GT mode until you get good at this car on this track in Arcade Mode.

I wasn't after a record time. I just wanted to prove it could be done. How you got past T5 in an hour is beyond me... what TCS setting did you use (I assume ASM is off?)

Looks like my only chance of GTP fame is slipping away...

Greatest has to be earned. :)

I used TCS 1 and no ASM like you said.

I got to T5 in an hour, IMO, because I understand the track. Like I said before, (whether you are going for a record time or not) I don't think it is a good idea to try GT Mode without getting to know this car on this track in Acrade Mode. It's just too unforgiving to learn the track in GT Mode.

Don't bash me guys, but I don't get it!

You all enjoy this? :)

I must give it a try! Do I have to be over 80? :)

As I said a while ago, I got into this because I needed a challenge after completing Mission 34. The rest of the game was somewhat of a let down as the races just weren't that tough. Even the F-1 series wasn't much of a challenge. So I tried this and am now hooked. I want to have the best time on the ring with both the carraige and the wagon in GT and Arcade Mode.

I have tried the Minolta around the ring a few times to see if I could get the best times with both the fastest car and the slowest car in Gran Turismo but 4:48 may just be too tough. I am at about 5:15 after trying for a few sessions.

Wow, just wow!

And you've also tried it with the 3-wheeled wagon?

That's amazing. I think that's the biggest accomplish yet in GT4.

Power to you and good luck! đź‘Ť

200 point races are fun as well, they get the blood pumping. :nervous:

I think its some strange psychological condition we share. Pain=Pleasure. Kinda like climbing Everest. No point to doing it, and the experience is all pain (except for the odd coasting moments), but if the challenge is there we'll take it up!:)

I'm not sure if anyone finds this 'fun' in the normal sense, but its certainly satisfying!

Them there's fightin' words! :D

Bring it on James2097.

Three hours to get from T6 to T7. One hour faster than thegreatms did it with the Carraige. I don't know if its a fair comparison. I am just making the observation.

Alright - I've got the next three days off, I'm at least going to see how hard that first hill is...

This is insane - right up my alley. I've got both carriages so maybe I'll go with the 3 wheeler, I kinda like that one better.

I didn't read through all 16 pages of this thread, stopped on 5, I'll get back to it though so I don't repeat anything.

This is insane. But sounds like incredible fun!

(gotta update my sig too...<sigh>)

Nice to have you on board. Keep in mind many have tried and failed... do you have the right stuff?

Well if having the tenacity and sticktoitivness to become an Eagle Scout and U.S. Marine isn't the right stuff, I don't know what is...

I'm even still trying to prove that you can trisect an angle with just a compass and a straight edge, though all the Euclidian mathemeticians out there say it isn't possible...I'm *sure* there is a way...

Well, you've just made me (and probably everyone else) expect greatness. đź‘Ť
It'll be nice to have more people going for the best time... welcome! :)

Now if you're serious, you've got a lot of experience to gain with the wagon in the space of just 3 days! I'd really start NOW if you want a competitive time. (Just talking up the difficulty, because evidently you like it that way... ;))

Now is this a two, three or four man contest? I'm not really sure who's serious and who's dropped out...

P.S. Good luck with the geometry, but I worry those Euclidian mathematicians have had access to those same rulers and compasses for quite some time... Have you experienced any close to 'Eureka' moment that helped solidify your hunch or is it just pure tenacity that's driving you? I ask because my old man is a mathematician, he'd be quite interested in what you're trying to do if it has some merit.
If you think its possible (and not just a vague hunch), my dad might enjoy having a crack at it himself... You think its a viable challenge?

Good choice to start with the Wagon. I find that easier too. I hope you are starting in Arcade Mode first. And some of the best info is well past page five. Good luck. Not that luck has anything to do with it.

It would be funny if I'd been practising all this time and just came out with a truly dominating time for the Wagon. Pity my brother still has the PS2 at his house, it would've been a cool thing to do. I think I'd probably be able to be competitive, but just can't justify the time to catch up with the advances you guys have made... excuses excuses I know..

Split times for the Wagon around the ring in Gt Mode (under seven hours):

T1 2.24.053
T2 21.18.950
T3 23.08.882
T4 26.49.546
T5 65.00.000 +/-
T6 174.26.800
T7 355.30.818
T8 358.36.534
T9 362.09.249
T10 386.12.924
T11 394.03.123
T12 413.27.078

I actually think this is a pretty good time. As with all times, I am sure it can be beat, but I think it will be difficult.

On to the Carraige in GT Mode. But not just yet.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Awesome, you've done it first! Here's a trophy!

I WILL give others a few days to come up with a better time before crowning you the true Wagon Man... but I think you've got it down pretty darn solidly...

I'd like to see what times Renesis or the new guy Ursa_Major_Prim come up with. I also wonder if thegreatms has gotten bored of doing this kind of thing yet?

Ok, roll those times in...:)

well done đź‘Ť looks like i was too slow. I dont think its worth having another go really, till I learn how to do it properly. Mezar5 seems to be getting around far far quicker than me - dunno what he's doing, since at points (e.g. first hill) I cant even get the carriage to motor its way across to the other side of the track. Any attempt at swinging it around invariably results in me going downhill, so I drive up the track, and let gravity roll it back, turning to face uphill at the sametime. Repeat for several hours.

There is a lot of info in the previous posts. For instance, I wrote a very detailed explanation about how I slingshot around the track and thegreatms and I both talked about how we pendulum with different styles. For anyone who really wants to do this, the info is out there.

If you are stalling up hill while you try to turn around, you are waiting to long to make your turn. Turn before you drop below 4 mph. And you can't just make a sharp 90 degree turn. Depending on the bank of the track the turn is usually between 90 and 135 degrees.
