I wouldn't be too fussed if Super2000 rules were introduced. Sure, the cars wouldn't be as fast, but it'd mean we could get a much larger variety of cars and possibly international teams. The only problem would be is Holden would be stuck using the Viva. :P

No Jack we need some fast and impressive cars!

Bathurst also runs a 12 hour race around easter time. Production car Rules just like the good old days. Buy a car from the manufacture, put some better tyres, roll cage and a little tweak here and there for safety and race we go. Limit of $125,000 Australian.

I just wish this could get a bit more sponsorship and tv time. This year for a 12 hour race, I saw about 2hours of real racing (If I'm lucky). This year was also one of the best Mazda 3 Stacks I have seen

If the link doesnt work youtube search for "Len Cave Bathurst 12 hour crash 2008"

and he walked away (slowly but he walked)

In days gone by everybody was either a Holden Man or a Ford man and defended their marque to the hilt. Nowadays fans are following drivers more than the manufacturers, so the Holden vs Ford mentality is past its used by date. The series has become too expensive, and the changes made recently are not going to solve the problem long-term.

In my opinion (which is not perfect, I admit) I believe the entire series should be scraped and replaced with the Aussie Racing Cars, then expand the number of bodies to include as many manufacturers as possible. We no longer worry about 'parity' as it's a silhouette series. Also, due to their size the fields can be made larger.

Then, every race should be an endurance race. And race weekends should be shortened to just 2 days to keep costs down; Saturday = practice and qualifying, Sunday = race.

Anyway, back to the thread topic... GO SETO !!!

Does pretty well in the WTCC:

I can see Super2000 rules working. Plenty of cars already about for privateers.

Trouble with the V8 Supercars these days is that they all appear the same, only obvious difference being the large red or blue HOLDEN and FORD windscreen banners. To outsiders it looks like a one-make series.

You know what, they should have the Toyota Aurion compete in V8 supercars. Sure its not a V8 or RWD, but that doesn't stop the Camry to compete in NASCAR. ;) Just swap in for a V8 and swap the drive onto the rear and you have a car that would match both of them. 👍

That's what I thought, Aurion to RWD V8.

Toyota's likely power-plant ? Stroked 4.0 L??

They use V8s in their truck engines, but Supercars are all pushrods, so I don't know how that'd work. A different tune on the NASCAR engine perhaps?

A 5 series Bimmer would be good ,right size right look ,there must be an American counterpart too,I just can't think what.

When GT5 comes out I'm starting a race series called V8 Supercars International. I'll be using as many RWD V8 sedans as possible.

Pontiac G8!! :dopey:

300C maybe.

The only offerings USA really have is Dodge Charger and 300C, and both are not exactly aerodynamic.:ouch: There'd be uproar from Holden fans if the used a G8.

They used to race Nations Cup they were all standard/factory cars dunno what happened to that Ford+Holden V8's were racing neck n neck with a MAGNA, great veiwing.THey were getting thrashed by Elise's and others the Celica was pretty good around the track too.

Nations Cup was great, but Celicas were not faster than Holdens. They just used a staggered start, so Holdens started at the back, and waited while everyone sped off. Celicas were half complete their first lap by the time the V8s were allowed to leave the start line.

I'm sure the G8 is The Commodore anyway with an Americanised look, just like the did with the Manaro/GTO

I prefer Holden Vs Ford. It's a unique what they have here. Yes it has been boring lately but there are things that can be implemented to change that. I'm not saying changes like the ones that radically changed the face of F1, but changes

Boring? I was not aware there were any problems with V8 Supercars. Find me a race series where they race literally within centimetres of each other like V8s.

You're thinking of NASCAR, V8s look very different to each other. It's like saying Merc, Bimmer and Audi all make sedans that look the same.

Maybe to you, who sees them all the time as road cars, and knows all the differences. The only time I see a V8 Supercar is on the TV, in a race, covered in sponsors logos. The only way I know the difference is to look for the Holden or Ford logo.

That's fair enough, I have trouble destuiguishing Merc's...probably because I'm not interested in them :D but they use very similar body lines, Headlights and other visually defining attributes in most of there line-up...well it certainly looks like that to me lol!
Peace,

I've done some thinking on the subject of an international series based on V8SC rules.

Primary differences:
IRS
DOHC engines allowed (Horsepower controlled)

Lineup:
Ford Falcon
Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8/Chevy Lumina (depending on country of the race)
Cadillac CTS
Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300C
Audi A6 (RWD only)
Lexus GS
Nissan Fuga/Infiniti M
BMW 5er
Jaguar XF
Mercedes E-class
Hyundai Genesis Sedan

Those would probably be the obvious (internationally sold) choices.

Here's the livery the Holden Racing Team will be using at Bathurst. It looks great!

So you can honestly tell me you can't tell a difference between this:

and this

I don't care if I see them every day or not, they are completely different.

That's exactly what I want to do with GT5, turn all these V8 sedans into V8 Supercar race cars, then hold online tournaments.

Yup. One says Ford in blue and the other says Holden in red. Oh, and the one that says Ford has slightly different shaped lights.

If thats the case then the tournament sounds like it will be pretty cool.

I see, so the massively flared wheel arches, the side vent, the completely different spoiler, the completely different rear end and the more sloping profile of the Holden are all indistinguishable to you? You guys are paying 0 attention to these cars then.

Edit: Also the different bonnets (Falcons have a bulge), the different side mirrors are overlooked?

Also, just for fun, I'll allow older models too. We might end up with old M5s and what not as well.:)

So you can spot the difference in the door mirrors when they are whizzing past in a multi colour blur?

The difference in the rear wing endplates is the only way, apart from some obviously Ford or Holden sponsors, for me to tell them apart.

And if one of them has a more sloping profile than the other, how do we know which one has the more sloping profile seeing as we don't see these cars on the roads?

Racing liveries hide all the small detailing differences to the viewer - with perhaps the exception of the different rear wings. Even the base models they are based on look incredibly similar. Have their respective designers got no imagination?

TV cameras make them perfectly visible.

No, you don't see them on the roads, so you might not know which is which. TheCracker said that to outsiders it would look like a one-make race, I was showing there are obvious differences between the 2 cars.
BTW, I really wish people would take it upon themselves to keep up to date with current Australian vehicles. It would be nice you know, we do it for you.

Edit: TheCracker, the only similarities I see there are the headlights, and even they look different on the XR Falcons.

That livery is one of the best i've seen.

There is also another way to tell the difference between the ford and holden. (not the conventional way being a holden is broken down on the side of the road :):sly::crazy:) but the fact that a ford has a more squarer front end than the more sleek looking holden.

Now easy guys we don't need a typical Holden vs Ford flame match lol.
The difference between Holden and Ford visually can be easily destinguished by looking at the rear Wing, its simple Holden is two center supports while Ford is joined at both sides of the car, I think that is one of the most obvious differences between the two.
Peace,
Rusty*

Wait wait wait..... sure we are not talking about Ford here!? Holden is the one broken down

What was it? 2002 top 10 shootout where Seton's beautifully painted Falcon broke down? lol (I'm a holden man through and through but that was an awesome livery)

Honestly speaking, I liked this livery more than their new one.

As for the best livery in V8, I think this one takes the cake.👍
