Last time I went to Bathurst (not the 1000km, just a normal day) I was too young to remember it now. We don't realise just how quickly the track falls away coming down The Mountain.

100% true. Last Summer we visited the motor museum and the circuit and it was just amazing. After seeing it first hand, it's hard to believe how they can go around the circuit at such great speed. My ears came close to popping at the sudden elevation changes too. It was a great experience, even if I was only the passenger.

I also went to the circuit back in '04 for the 1000km event. Unfortunately I was only there for the Sunday race, but it was still awesome to be there. The atmosphere was great and the race was one of the best I've seen, despite a little incident with a kangaroo. It wasn't anywhere near as fun as 4 days at the Adelaide street circuit, but it was great to think "I'm at one of the most challenging circuits in the world, watching one of biggest touring car event in the world".

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this event. It's one of the few V8 Supercar events I really care about now, so I'm really hoping it'll be a thrilling race and no doubt it will. I'll be rooting for the #1 HRT car, I'm a bit worried about Skaife, despite his Bathurst winning experience. He just isn't what he was a few years back. On the other hand, Tander is a fantastic driver and I'm sure with him on HRTs side, they will be in for a damn good chance at getting on the top step of the podium. Whincup and Lowndes will be a team to watch out for, there's a fair bit of experience there in what's such a fast car and almost flawless team. I wouldn't be upset at all if this Ford team won, because both guys are two awesome drivers. I wont count out the Supercheap car of Ingall and Morris, they did a great job at Phillip Island. And finally, Winterbottom and Richards will be another team to watch out for, both drivers are very fast and they've got a great car and team to back them up. There's plenty of other teams and drivers I'd like to mention, but I'm far too tired.

Rusty being back in the Commodore an with some new found form,I'm sure will give the ford boys a run:sly:

Has to be a Holden with Skaife and Tander being favorites, but they were also favorites last year too and we all know what happened there. Also candidates are #3 Murph and Richards, Tasman motorsport always come good around this time of year. If Paul Morris can put in a good performance then you cant count out the #37 Morris Ingall entry, Ingall being a 2-Time winner has the know how to win the 1000. A real dark horse has to be the #15 HSVDT Car of R.Kelly and the "Rat" Paul Radisch. Both have done well in the past Rick being a past winner and Paul coming so close in 99 with DJR before tearing out the tyre valve clipping a backmarker giving Murf his second win on the mountain.

Oh, you mean the greatest lap ever done in the history of mankind?:sly:

That's exactly what I'm talking about. ;)👍

Seeing the mountain on GT5 would be so amazing. People from overseas don't realise how much that track means to Australian motorsport.
I got the mountain on my GT5 Wish list as well.

MMMM...'The Mountain' on GT-P,only in our dreams.Does anybody think it would happen....Havn't they already dropped all the OZ cars off the new game....?????:ouch:

IMO Australian Motorsport is Bathurst (and Targa's)

Although I watch Bathurst every year, the V8 supercars has become bit boring lately in my opinion.

Lately? It's been boring (except Bathurst) for a very long time, I agree with you about changing back to a touring car championship again but the V8's attendences are too high. I was glad when Ford reduced funding into racing as I hope one day they will open the rules up for some different models to enter.

Thats a great lap no doubt but my favorite is Brockies VP Commodore Group A shootout lap in 1991 (1992 I forget) where one moment he has a the inside wheel in the air due to sheer grip and body flexing and next second he is sideways on the top of the mountain, not a real fast lap overall the awesome to watch.

IIRC Holdenhsvgtsr uploaded the lap in a thread here at GTP shortly after Brock was killed.

*EDIT* I found the post of the video but Youtube says it doesn't exist anymore. :(

VN 1991

although i still maintain this being the best ever bathurst drive.

Wow! That lap of Murphy's was exceptionally quick! He used every last bit of track going down the Mountain! I do believe the Mountain has it's own ability to strike fear into driver's like the Nurburgring does, although not as much as the Ring as the Nurburgring is one very wild Ride lol! I have seen some nasty accidents at the mountain but I still think it would be the Driver's favourite, similar to the Nurburgring, these tracks are feared but also famous.:D

I too wish they'd put in more manufacturers, but they'd all have to be RWD V8 sedans and parity should be maintained.

Anyone remember the GT-R day's? However as you say Holden RWD V8 is important base to keep if they were to add an additional Manufacturer as it is essentially everything about the Supercar's that they remain V8's.:)

You know what, they should have the Toyota Aurion compete in V8 supercars. Sure its not a V8 or RWD, but that doesn't stop the Camry to compete in NASCAR. ;) Just swap in for a V8 and swap the drive onto the rear and you have a car that would match both of them. 👍

Funny...I have heard this idea before, the Aurion seems to be a popular choose for those wishing to add an additional car to the Supercar lineup.👍

I just voted and there seems to be an amazing phenonenom 103.85%

No thanks, IMO they should have to keep correct engine and configuration, this isn't Nascar, these are the real cars shells.

I wish Holden and Ford right now would use the same engines the road versions have got (tuned accordingly to match specs), much like the brute utes do.

I personally would like to open up the V8 Supercars into a Australian Touring car championship again, open to foreign cars (that are sold in full in Australia) and bring back classes.

A 5 series Bimmer would be good ,right size right look ,there must be an American counterpart too,I just can't think what.

Yeah that's how it use to be, alot of older Australian motorsports fans agree with your comment. It was "Race 'em Sunday, Sell 'em Monday" or something like that. Is very different nowaday's, adding a class of Racing that has a standard from the manufacturer lineup would be interesting, it would give buyer's a genuine understanding of the performance capabilities of there car before they purchase it. This is just my idea's, but the way the V8 Super's use to be run would have been great racing I reckon. Peace,

They used to race Nations Cup they were all standard/factory cars dunno what happened to that Ford+Holden V8's were racing neck n neck with a MAGNA, great veiwing.THey were getting thrashed by Elise's and others the Celica was pretty good around the track too.

I'm sure the G8 is The Commodore anyway with an Americanised look, just like the did with the Manaro/GTO

I prefer Holden Vs Ford. It's a unique what they have here. Yes it has been boring lately but there are things that can be implemented to change that. I'm not saying changes like the ones that radically changed the face of F1, but changes

Agreed, the idea of a Aussie Touring Car championship does sound quite promising. 👍 Having 2 manufacturers in V8 just seems boring and selfish, they need to broaden up the entries just like the other touring car series. They could change the engine rules so that most of the field would run V6 instead of V8, and that could give the Aurion a chance to enter and several other manufacturers as well.....

All of them just sounds so wrong, but maybe its just me. I think like what VIPERGTSR01 said, any foreign car could enter but must be made in Australia/New Zealand or sold exclusively for the Australian market. Something like the Mitsubishi 380 or maybe some car that are similar in specification......

This has been brought up before but with the Mitsubishi 380 canned and Toyota not interested i dont think it will change. I havent heard the Germans complaining about their DTM being a two-horse race. Anyway if you want to watch a boring race go watch a F1 race, about the only thing that keeps me interested is hearing the commentators go mental if they pass each other. The only thing that could bring back manufactures is bringing back the group A rules with slight changes like banning four-wheel drive etc and it could only work if the other major touring car championships could agree on these rules

No I mean any car sold in Australia in a fairly large quantity (no limited edition stuff) not just cars that were made here or sold exclusive for Australian Market.

I wouldn't be too fussed if Super2000 rules were introduced. Sure, the cars wouldn't be as fast, but it'd mean we could get a much larger variety of cars and possibly international teams. The only problem would be is Holden would be stuck using the Viva. :P
