"The Canadian Grand Prix that took place for 30 years at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was dropped from the 2009 Formula One calendar and replaced with the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. On November 27, 2009, Quebec's officials and Canadian Grand Prix organisers announced they have reached a settlement with Formula One Administration and signed a new five-year contract spanning the 2010-2014 seasons.[1][2] The 2010 edition is set to take place on June 13."

"Circuit

The circuit, at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Notre-Dame, a man-made island in the St. Lawrence River that is part of the city of Montreal, was originally named the Île Notre-Dame Circuit.[3] It was renamed in honour of Canadian Formula One driver Gilles Villeneuve, father of Jacques Villeneuve, following his death in 1982.[4] The venue hosted the Champ Car World Series Grand Prix of Montreal from 2002 to 2006."

"Barriers run close to the circuit and many experienced drivers have been caught out by them. A particularly famous part of the circuit is the wall on the outside of the exit of the final chicane. In 1999 the wall, which has on it the slogan Bienvenue au Québec ("Welcome to Quebec") giving it the nickname "Mur du Québec" (Quebec Wall), ended the race of three Formula One World Champions, Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher & Jacques Villeneuve along with FIA GT champion Ricardo Zonta. Since then the wall has been nicknamed "The Wall Of Champions". In recent years Jenson Button (2005) and Vitantonio Liuzzi (2007) have also fallen victim to the wall. Fernando Alonso 2005/06 F1 World Champion and Nico Rosberg have also both hit the wall at turn 5. Juan Pablo Montoya has also hit a wall on the circuit.

Changes made in 2005 to the curbs on the final chicane were controversial amongst drivers in the run-up to the Grand Prix. The curbs were made higher and more difficult for the drivers to see, making the chicane even more of a challenge to drivers."

I see we've got a Red Bull theme going here . I think this is the race where McLaren will finally have the legs on Red Bull. Long straights and slow corners combined with McLaren's f-duct advantage and supposed advantage in engine power should see them finally beat Red Bull in qualifying.
However, the key to this track is getting used to the new low-downforce aerodynamic packages which are used for this race and Monza only. The balance of the car will be quite different to the previous races, so we may see a shake up of the usual order lately depending on who gets their setups right.

With this in mind, Force India have to be a potential dark horse with their history of low downforce performance. Mercedes are looking to suffer the most, as reportedly their main problem is aerodynamic effeciency.

The races are never dull at Monteal, I think the only thing I will predict is the wall of champions victims:
Lucas Di Grassi, Nico Hulkenburg, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Vettel and Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Any bets on more controversial incidents between Webber and Vettel or Button and Hamilton? :D

My favourite Canadian Grand Prix:

Hmmm... huge straights... should play well into McLaren's hands... and maybe... Ferrari? They'll be needing a pick-me upper after that terrible showing in Turkey.

Which world champions have hit the wall?

Thanks for your expertise and your videos Ardius 👍 !

Wow the next one is Canadian.. I'm looking forward to watching the race on TV(Maybe I'll record it).

This race is redemption for Red Bull. I think they'll do very good here. It would be exciting for another RB-Mclaren battle like the first 40 laps of Turkey.

That would be a good chance for Red Bull to make a better result than Mclaren, they'll try their best to get as many winnings as they can to beat them in point ranking and make a bigger gap. :D It will be a nice race.

Revved up for this one! :dopey:👍:gtpflag:

Difficult to predict anything at Montreal; but I will predict at least 2 'safety cars' :) and the race will be a scramble :D:eek:

I am also going to call my Dad during qualifying because he lives near enough to the circuit that he can hear the engines :dopey:👍:)

According to recent interviews it seems like Mclaren finnally caught up with the Bulls, should be an exciting race!

It seems like we here that every race or at least that McLaren should be able to put up more of a fight this race. But every time qualifying comes around the red bulls will pull out a time out of nowhere that no one expected and just pulling away all race. I don't see this week being any different honestly. only thing that seems to be a problem for red bull are themselves with reliability problems (those seemed to be worked out for now) and there drivers going by the motto go big or go home.

This track plays more to McLarens strenghts though than Red Bulls. The tracks with straights so far have had high speed corners, which is where aero is the big plus.
But here its relatively slow corners and long straights, perfect for another team to finally catch up. McLaren are best placed to do this with their f-duct, though their car looks very shaky on the bumps, seems to have a very stiff suspension setup.

Red Bull were still strong at Monaco, so the slow corners won't be a massive hinderance, but the long straights and their supposed down-on-power-Renault engine are their weakness.

We also saw at Turkey that McLaren had started to claw the gap down, Red Bull were fighting them the whole race, unlike previous races where they have had a considerable margin.

It's sounding like most people are tipping McLaren for the win this weekend. Something tells me it won't be a straight forward race though.

Kubica always stands out here, for one reason or another so I guess he'll be one to watch for. I also think that now the Ferrari team have regained parity with their engine usage, they might turn the wick up again.

Alonso, Kubica, Massa for me this weekend.

I'm going to predict a 3-way battle between the 2 Mclarens, the 2 Red Bulls and the Renault of Kubica (Petrov isn't quite up to the task to be honest).

I'm going to go for a Button win this time, with Vettel second. I feel Vettel will qualify pole but will have a bad pit stop which will allow Button to jump him.

Safety Car Predictions - How many in the race this Sunday?

My prediction is 4 safety car incidents.

I think it will be 2, maybe 3. I can see the Wall of Champions getting a couple of people this race.

As long as Lewis doesn't run into anyone in the pit lane I think he has a good shot at the win, but probably not from pole. Button might win it to, with good pit and tire strategy. This could be the race that marks the end of the Red Bull dominance, especially if Webber and Vettel have lost their confidence and momentum after the last race. I still think they will be there up front, at least for the start of the race.

The Ferrari's and Kubica also have a chance at a high finish, maybe even a lucky podium.

Would be nice to see some good battles between the 3 new teams like we saw in Turkey.

I have a feeling we will see some good overtaking. I hope mercedes do well.

Should be an interesting race!! hard to pick this one, but im going for Webber

Why hope for safety cars here? This is one of the good tracks!

Leave the hope for places like Valencia.

Ah, my mistake :).
Well Ferrari have admitted they have spent too much time focusing on developing their own f-duct solution that they haven't developed the rest of the car as much as other teams have been. So hopefully for them they have started shifting focus now they have realised getting a good f-duct solution working is fairly futile.

Renault are outpacing them development wise and they don't have an f-duct at all.

If Ferrari have not brought much updates, I think they may be fighting Renault again. But, this is Montreal, and surprises always seem to happen here.

Anyone except Mclaren to win please. We need to keep shaking up the championships, and I don't like Mclaren :P

I rather quite like the sound of "Double World Champion Jenson Button" though :P.

I would love to see Kubica take the title from nowhere. Win 1 race and then win the title, Keke Rosberg style.

That would be a fairytale, but so would Webber winning. I'm a huge Vettel fan but his time will come, I think Mark winning this time would be just fantastic.

I'd go with Kubica winning Ardius, but I'd prefer Massa to. When I'm in the situation where my fave driver isn't in contention, I just like it when it's close all season, on track and on points.
