Man City and Chelsea also got new managers, they're not doing to badly...

They're completely different styles of clubs. Man City and Chelsea typically buy superstar players from other clubs. The manager is important, but not vital. Though Pelligrini and Mourinho aren't exactly slouches, and shod be rated higher than Moyes, at the moment, anyday of the week. At a club like Manchester United, the players aren't all superstars. Most of them just fit into SAFs system, and that is why it worked. And his system was brilliant as it worked year after year.

I'm starting to believe that SAF left at the end of last season for a different reason. When you look at the players at the club, most are all coming to an end of their prime. I feel he realized this in 2012 and decided to go out with a bang, thus signing Van Persie whome has a short time limit. Then sign Kagawa as a trick to make peoole think that he was thinking of the future. Sure enough, he won the Premier League. Now, he is faced with having to replace 8 or so players on the pitch in one season? I think he decided to retire rather than risk his reputation. Give me all the hate in the world but, it's been stated a few times by others, and it seems pretty logical.

Even though I agree that United have an ageing squad I can't really see any immediate need to replace 8 players.

Rio and Giggs OK, and we never replaced Scholes, but other than those?

Vidic, Evra and Carrick are 32, hardly over the top.
RVP is 30 and last years PL top scorer, not over the top.

After that we're into the twenties...

I think he decided to retire rather than risk his reputation.

And then you found out about his cunning plot.

Known for being Injury Prone and has 8 goals in 15 appearances this season I believe. Impressive but, not enough after being the BPL top goal scorer last season. Still aging. 30 years old is generally when players start losing that physical edge in their game. I don't think he has what it takes mentally to be able to become a Zlatan and continue to play well beyond 30/31.

I understand your views of Moyes but I personally just dont buy it. Alot of managers who coach a side that is suffering from an financial point of view still play attractive football like, Pellegrini, Laudrup, Wenger, Martinez, etc. Its not the the resources but the philosophy instead imo. About Mou, sure his controversial at times, but he backs it up by winning trophies, besides wasnt Utd not after a coach who had an experience at international stage, well where does Moyes cuts inside here? Has not managed to qualify himself to CL despite making promises each year. I agree, Moyes might is good overall due to his longetivity but the expectations of him winning something should be kept low.

So united fans, you convinced yet?

Except their managers just happened to be the next on their manager conveyor belts. It'll move on pretty soon for both probably.

Chelsea sign Salah, really hope it turns out to be a good move for him.

An interesting signing really. He's been pretty decent but, will he be able to show similar or more form with a full Blue shirt on…

I would have preferred Chelsea to pick up Schar from Basel. He's been a fantastic Half Back for them.

He will just be another midfielder to go with the 652 they already have, but I do think he is a good player and 11 million is a steal, I feel he would get more time on the pitch at Liverpool though...

Looks like Liverpool did not even bid, so he had no other choice really.

but agree with @Kamuifanboy feel it's a rather large step for him and in a league that is vastly different from where he currently plays but best of luck to him.

A lot of talk of Mata the last few days and a lot of hype about the move, amongst all that one fact has been lost and that he has already played in the Champions league this season....which means he cant for United against Olympiacos...or for the rest of the season...

Salah is only being bought by Chelsea because he's so comprehensively thrashed them in the UCL this year, and the UEL last year.

If you can't beat them...

 How many [Random Nationality] Messies have there been in the Prem over the years? :P

The newest one is that Janazai bloke, after scoring two goals against a bottom of the table Sunderland

Also, why do pundits think he would want to play for England over Belgium? What on earth does the England national team have over them exactly? An ageing squad, overpaid and overrated players and the most horrible media coverage on the planet.

Like I said way back in October, I don't see why anyone would choose England at this point either.
However, the English media continues to lack the self-awareness to see that, so that's where those stories come from.

Also, am I the only one really underwhelmed by the Mata buy? Gives United something they already have in a lot of ways, since Mata's best position is also Rooney's best position, and Kagawa's best position... I guess maybe this signals an end to Shinji's time at Old Trafford, which is sad because he's a top talent with a lot of years ahead of him. Although perhaps this is more of a pre-replacement for Rooney if he's going to leave this summer. Time will tell I suppose.

Yep, I feel Kagawa will be off in the Summer if not this month, and I could also see Rooney moving to another club. For the past 2-3 seasons now there have been noises about how he would like to leave United during the summer transfer period, and who knows he may have genuine reason to do so unless United do the impossible and win the CL this year.

Regarding Mata, I suppose it's win-win for United. They have got a bargain for a top talent in the midfield, and Mata himself gets to play, something that wasn't happening at Chelsea. The only downside is that he is cup-tied for the CL.

United will not win the UCL this year. If they get past Olympiakos, that's as far as they're going. Of course, I said that about Chelsea two years ago too, and look how that turned out...

I suspect you're correct. If United aren't in Europe next year (which is looking increasingly probable) I think Rooney will finally leave. Kagawa should ask to leave this month, hand in a transfer request and get some games under his belt before the World Cup. If he's not Moyes's plans, there's no reason to stay the rest of this season. Best option for both parties might be a loan; that way if Rooney leaves, United can keep Kagawa as backup/rotation for Mata, but in the meantime he'll get some game time.

I would hardly call £37M a bargain for a player who has barely featured in the last 6 months. I suppose he is still only 25 and is clearly very talented, but I still struggle to call that price a bargain. The upside is that he probably will have a point to prove to both Mourinho and del Bosque so he'll be trying to play at his absolute maximum though the rest of the season.

I didn't realise he cost that much, on one forum I saw he went for £20m~. My bad

Meanwhile back in reality, no official statements have been made in regard to the "Mata transfer".

That's because a bid 'officially' hasn't been made, its been done through a third party which means United haven't made the bid themselves so when they are asked if they made the bid they can say no..

A lot of media are saying Mata will have medical tomorrow morning and the deal should be done later in the day, he wasn't at Carrington today and neither were the United players as it was a rest day following last nights match...many clubs don't bring their players in for training the day after a match..

No official statements as of yet. Though, Rooney is now following him on Twitter.

Kagawa is likely to leave in the summer. He has stated multiple times, on Japanese TV, that he would like to go back to Dortmund. I think Jurgen would take him back with open hands. He's just waiting for Dortmund to make a bid for him I suppose.
