Hearts have won the Scottish Championship and will return to the Scottish Premier League after just one season in the second tier.

Given that Hearts were in administration this time last year, and struggling off and on the pitch, this is really a remarkable achievement - winning the league by going 23 points clear with 7 games left to play is well beyond what anyone could have possibly expected. To be fair, I think most Hearts fans would have accepted a playoff place, but automatic promotion is a deserved prize for an incredible season. The atmosphere at Tynecastle next weekend is going to be pretty special - not to mention a bit emotional I'd imagine. Those postmatch beers are going to be sweet :D

Also, lol at Steven Gerrard...

Great performance and Mata's second was just :drool::drool:

Gerrard was sent off just 42 seconds in to his last ever apperance in a Liverpool-United derby!

Ironic the only time we looked in trouble was every time Di Maria lost the ball!:banghead::rolleyes: Really pleased for Mata though.

De Gea shouldve done better for the Sturridge goal.

Gerrard on TV now saying he has let his team-mates down and he takes full responsibility, it was a moment of madness but kudos to him for speaking to the media and owning up to it..

The shot was slightly deflected. I think only shot he had to save in whole game though so maybe he should have covered more of the goal there.

I found him quite disgraceful in that interview, goes on TV to talk about what he has done but doesn't apologise to the player who he stamped on intentionally.

Hull 2-3 Chelsea, Chelsea were 0-2 up but two Hull goals in 74 seconds, one curtesy of Courtois mistake, put the sides level at the break but a Remy winner came from another kepper mistake from McGregor gave Chelsea the win, Hull gave it a real go and Courtois reedemed himself with a stunning triple save

Everton beat QPR 1-2 with Lennon getting the winner...

El Clasico is on tonight..

Martin Skrtel get FA violent conduct charge after challenge on De Gea, if found guilty he will get a three game ban...

Gareth McAuley's red card on Saturday given to Craig Dawson..

And as the appeal was upheld, Skrtel does indeed get a 3 match ban.

U.S. senators urge FIFA not to let Russia host World Cup 2018

WASHINGTON | Wed Apr 1, 2015 1:33pm

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A group of U.S. senators has written to the international soccer association FIFA, urging it to consider removing Russia as host of the 2018 FIFA World Cup because of its role in the Ukraine crisis and occupation of Crimea.

In a letter dated Tuesday and released on Wednesday, the 13 Democratic and Republican U.S. lawmakers said they "strongly encourage" the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) to move the global competition.

"Allowing Russia to host the FIFA World Cup inappropriately bolsters the prestige of the (Russian President Vladimir) Putin regime at a time when it should be condemned and provides economic relief at a time when much of the international community is imposing economic sanctions," the senators wrote to FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

The lead signers were Senator Robert Menendez, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Senator Ron Johnson, the Republican chairman of the foreign relations panel's Europe subcommittee.

Republican Senator John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, also signed the letter, as did Senator Richard Durbin, the number two Democrat in the Senate.

A copy of the letter was also sent to the U.S. Soccer Federation.

A lot of talk about Qatar lately but I think they need to focus on Russia first...

To be honest, I can't see Fifa remaining relevant if these two World Cups go ahead. Brazil's troubles seem to have been largely forgotten about apart from the story a few weeks ago about the stadium becoming a bus depot, but I can't imagine Russia will run anywhere near as smoothly if it actually went ahead and the less said about Qatar the better.

I just can't see Russia losing their World Cup before it actually happens though, mainly because of the infrastructure they are investing at the moment, they would probably have grounds for a law suit.:indiff:

To be honest, I'd love to see a European nation that has one of the big 5 leagues or the USA host it. It'd be less controversial, bigger stadiums that are already built, a big fan base already established(Maybe not for USA) and conditions that, for the most part, are bearable.

I know obviously its going to come off at biased but I still don't get why we didn't get the world cup. We have enough stadiums already with suitable capacity. A Final Stadium (Wembley) they're all within reasonable distance of each other not 750 miles from each other. All that would need is the public transport to be subject to a little refining. Yet we get Russia and Qatar? Qatar where the entire city that the final is in is not even built.

So what do you guys think of Sterling situation going on at Liverpool, basically he gave an interview yesterday saying his contract thing there isn't about money its about challenging and winning trophies at the club, he then admitted that he turned down an £100k a week extension on his current deal which has two years to run, Real Madrid have been said to be very interested in him, Sterling is 20 years old and has been a first team regular for the last two seasons...

...my take is this, I cant really comprehend the fact that he says its not about the money and then turns down that deal!, He has done really well in the last two years and has progressed well and although £100k is a lot I think its about right, if he got any more then it would be ridiculous, he is at a good club with a manager who knows him and I dnt think he should leave until his mid-twenties, if he got something like £140k a week then what would that say for the current crop of young players at the club now like Jordan Ibe, would he get £100k plus after two years in the first team?, I don't think so!

@Luke, One of the World Cup stadiums in Brazil is now a bus depot?!?

Games this weekend...

Saturday
Arsenal v Liverpool (12.45 BT)
Chelsea V Stoke (5.30 Sky)
Everton v Southampton
Leicester v West Ham
Man United v Aston Villa
Swansea v Hull
West Brom v QPR

Sunday
Burnley v Tottenham (1.30 Sky)
Sunderland v Newcastle (4.00 Sky)

Monday Night
Crystal Palace v Man City (8pm Sky)

Two big games there, the top four could change by Saturday night and you could say the Tyne-Wear derby is a must win for Sunderland

A big weekend in the Championship too, two rounds of games today and Monday, four of the top six play each other today with Derby v Watford and Ipswich v Bournemouth, both games on Sky later..

@Luke, that's a fantastic looking stadium, shame they cant use it properly...

Ah yes I know that because there was an article in the sports pages of some of the papers here about Alex McLeish about how he has taken turned Genk around after they lost their first four this season and are now in the play-offs, he went abroad after doing not very well at all in his previous two jobs at Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest..

Celtic in action tonight. Hoping for a resounding victory, those damn sheep won't leave our tail! :D

They are not going to extend his contract as they missed playoff 1 and are relegated to 2 (best 6 teams play PO 1).
He did ok given the circumstances though.
All i want is for Bruges to win the league this year, it's been 10 years without a title for us (won the cup though 2 weeks ago against Anderlecht).

To set the tone, it is the UEFA U-16 Playoff finals, Macedonia vs. Gibraltar.

After Macedonia scored what would be the tournament winning goal in a corner kick extra time set piece, all 11 of their side went into the opposing side to celebrate the goal...

They forgot two things, an unattended net and time remaining on the clock.

It was the latter that Gibraltar took advantage of and scored a quick equalizer into the open net as extra time expires.

Gibraltar ended up winning the tournament by goal differential.

And people say Gibraltar shouldn't be playing football. Pah! They've won something unlike the other European microstates or even the British home nations.
