Like I said.. something will have to go wrong, otherwise he's probably going to end up champion.
Aside from last year, where he had nothing to lose, his best finish at Miami is 13th, and his career average there is 17th position, which is 18th best at Homestead overall

That'll change this year since the drivers that will be in contention for the championship that day will actually have something to race for instead of casually driving around just covering what they need.

Just look back to 2011 when Stewart drove like hell to win the title.

Corey LaJoie is nowhere near being Cup ready.
I agree but maybe the King sees it differently, perhaps he feels he's got a Kyle Larson talent there (LOL) ? I don't see him as one of the favorites anyway... who do you see in #9 ?

Thought LaJoie was fired from Petty after he made a bad "Muslim-In-An-Airport" joke on Twitter
he was placed on indefinite probation and instructed to attend sensitivity training by NASCAR, RPM didn't fire him.

It's still possible, there is a lot of time before the start of '15.
unlikely, looking like RPM intends to use the number.
Chase Elliott will have another number in Cup, it's not the end of the world.

Yum Brands doesn't sponsor the team, Bob Jenkins, who owns Front Row also owns a major franchise of Yum! restaurants in the Eastern U.S. It's pretty much the same thing as BK racing, while they don't actually sponsor the team, both the
well, you said "will KFC follow him?" and they've only sponsored Ragan for one 2014 race.
Taco Bell, his main sponsor (for 12 races + Sprint Showdown), happens to ALSO be owned by Yum, which, prior to 2011, also owned Long John Silver's (main sponsor of Gilliland, also sponsored Ragan for 1 race) and A&W Restaurants (sponsored Gilliland for 1 race)... Yum is basically an FRM sponsor, but not official, to me. That'd mean Ragan can't bring them to RPM.

Stewart had won 2 previous times at Homestead...

Just because they say something now doesn't mean it will happen, it's sort of like how drivers always say they are close to a deal to re-sign when in reality they are already half-way out the door.

I never said anything about KFC, the rest of your post is just re-wording my post.

I know what you mean, but RPM's recent declarations, confirming a 2 car team for 2015, means they need a second number. Why go buy the rights for a new one when they've run #9 for years now?

Weren't you the person I talked about this with?
If a number is available, a team can buy/use it, but if a team was using it one year, I believe it has priority for the next, you can't offer a better deal, like free agency (your example).

It's not like #9 is an historic Hendricks number, is it?

Speaking of RPM, there's an article about Hornish on nascar.com, of course, he's interested in the ride.

yeah my bad, that was gerarghini

I don't know, your post was confusing, not finished, it ends on "both the"...

Would Chase want to use that number to represent him though? Wasn't that the reason Junior refused to use the #3 or was that due to problems at DEI?
Junior didn't want to use the 3 because he wanted to be his own person in NASCAR. As far as I know, Chase has no issues with using the same number as his father as he's used both the 9 and 94 at various times.

As far as I'm aware, Jr. didn't want the 3 because he didn't want to have his father's number. Chase has pretty much always used the 9 for his racing endeavors, but it'll be his decision as to whether or not he uses it in his cup starts (that is, if RPM lets go of #9).

Thanks for the info guys. I was unsure myself 👍

If that's the case, couldn't Chase just use the #94 when he moves up to Cup? That is assuming RPM continues using the #9 and honestly they already have the #4 font at Hendrick (24, 48). The #9 is famous for Elliot no doubt, but hasn't RPM/Similar have it for like 10 years or so? Of course they could just choose not to use the number in the near future, so we won't really know how it'll go down until it actually happens I guess.

RPM's only link to it is merging with Evernham, and his only link to it was Bill Elliott, why not change the 2nd number to 44 or 45, both previously used by Petty Enterprises, and have history with the company

And when next season rolls around, we'll have 1-7 and 9 on track. The only holdout being 8 due to Teresa Earnhardt holding the number for no real reason.

Unless that's no longer the case.

Could've sworn when they merged, it essentially became Ganassi with Earnhardt's name attached to it (no real involvement from DEI anymore) so the 8 is probably available to use, its just no one seems interested in using it.

Also to expand further, DEI when around had no say on the use of the number 3 since it was and has been registered with RCR which we talked about a couple weeks ago or three when discussing if Edwards could take the 99 with him. Richard has always been open to the idea of letting Junior have the number but you know why he didn't take it as the others have said.

Robert Yates still pays to reserve the 28 each year. It's very possible Teresa Earnhardt could do the same thing annually. She wouldn't allow Jr to use it for that reason.

Given that Jr doesn't seem all that concerned anymore (seemed like he moved on a long while ago), what sense would it make for her to keep doing it, especially since she wants nothing to do with racing now?

There are raindrops on the blimp camera and ESPN is completely ignoring the topic of weather.

Not the first time that weather has been ignored, and it certainly won't be the last time either. Any network is guilty of that- remember that FOX ignored the rain threat at the Daytona 500 this year and that turned out to be a tornado warning.

I take that as a dig against Roush equipment more than anything else.

Petty uses Roush parts, and Edwards and Biffle are way stronger than Almirola. Heck, even Ambrose might be stronger than Almirola.
