For the umpteenth time, there is no official pictures of what the 2014 Mustang is going to look like.

2014 will be a continuation of 2013 until late in the year when 2015 models are introduced.

2013 Shelby 1000 Mustang pumps out 1,200 horsepower. 200 more.

"To reach 1,200hp, Shelby American strips the GT500’s 5.8-liter engine down to the block to strengthen the internals in preparation for the increased power level. Combining a finely tuned adjustable suspension with a performance cooling package, big brakes, and serious horsepower, the Shelby can outperform exotics costing three-to-four times more.

“This car cannot be defined by just its amazing power,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American’s test driver. “The steering provides wonderful feedback and the car tracks beautifully, giving it an athletic feel. It attacks corners, ripping through them with minimal body roll and tremendous grip. Yet the Shelby 1000 can be so docile that you can cruise it down the streets of Manhattan.”

The post-title Shelby 1000 package starts at $154,995, not including the base GT500. A limited production of 100 cars will be built. Each will be numbered and documented in the official Shelby Registry."

Also, seems Shelby is announcing a new Shelby vehicle, unrelated to the Mustang and Focus ST. Possibly another Shelby F-150? Makes me wonder what Shelby has in mind for the next generation Mustangs...

Apparently the 1200hp version will be the street version, makes that power on pump gas and the track only version hasn't been announced yet. It also has a full independent, adjustable suspension system with 6 piston brakes and it's own control arms, K members etc which is mostly left over from the 2012 model. I didn't realize they dropped the solid axle with the 2012 model. The 2013 model will be built off the 2012 model. That said a solid axle is more stong than IFS/IRS. But they won't be using one again.

With 1200hp on pump gas I think it's more fair than it was before. Lets see what the track only version brings.

I'll take a more than capable Lethal Performance build. Keep the warrenty and extra HP, I'll take the change. The new GT500 appeals to me because of the awesome power for the money ratio(and looks really really good too) but this puts it into exotic car league. I'd rather have a laundry list of cars in this price range than a mega powered mustang. That's just me though.

I understand where you are coming from.

Ridiculously overpriced & just milking the Shelby name.

You can easily get something even faster for equal to or less than $210,000.

That I can agree with.

That is also true. I do think it needs to be cheaper, but it's still a slightly better deal that last years model. Not by much however.

Nissan GT-R plus a Switzer 1000 hp kit brand new makes more sense...

Bet someone else could come up with something similar for a lot less. For 150k, the car should be included in the package.

The Shelby 1000 wasn't made to be a good value performance car, so stop saying it's overpriced. And stop saying they are milking the Shelby name, Carroll Shelby himself worked on it. Yes, there are faster and cheaper cars out there, but it's no different than someone buying a slower and more expensive Ferrari 458 over the faster and cheaper Nissan GT-R. And statistically speaking, you'd see 4 Ferrari Enzo's before you'd see a Shelby 1000.

How has he been milking his own reputation? By building cars under his own name? Yea some of the Shelby Dodges were just stupid, but the GT500's and others aren't.

At least he built most of the Shelby Dodges. The GT500 was him selling the naming rights for something that would have just been an SVT otherwise; and the GT-H was Ford putting a chrome grill on the Bullit Mustang.

Milking? Shelby made the GT500 Mustang for 10 more hp than a ZR1 and half the price. That is what I call a steal.

SVT made the GT500 Mustang have 10 more HP then the best Corvette for half the price, just like they did with the Terminator Cobra in 2003. Shelby signed his name on a plaque installed in the dash.

THIS.

As for Shelby endorsements...

Horsepower is just a number. Get at me when its track performance matches Zr1 or even Z06.

Actually it's not. :dunce:

The Mustang and Corvette completely different cars. Find me the back seats in that Z06.

Edit: We put an 800 horsepower engine in a pickup truck. Get at me when its track performance matches that of a ZR1, or even Z06, bro.

He was comparing the GT500 to the ZR1 in price and HP. I refuted that by talking actual track performance. So compare them when its in favor of the Shelby but not the Vette?

And he wasn't saying that the GT500 is a better track car than a Corvette. He is simply using the Corvette, a well known bargain performance car with lots of power, as a measuring stick to demonstrate that the GT500 is a good car for what it offers.

If someone wanted track performance, they are perfectly free to buy the version of the Mustang suited to track performance. They're looking in the wrong place if the GT500 and ZR1 was their go-to choice.

I never said he was, I was just pointing out that having horsepower bragging rights isnt everything. And I agree the GT500 is a hell of a bargin. It's the first Mustang since the '60/70 era that I really would like to own myself.

$155k plus price of a GT500? No thanks.

I love my Mustang and everything but I completely agree. There should never be a $200,000+ Mustang for sale... ever.

I'd rather have a brand new Porsche GT3 or Turbo whenever that comes out. A GTR and mod the crap out of it.... something like that if i'm spending $200k!

Then again the people able to afford a 200k mustang probably already owns everything under the sun so why not throw 200k at a Mustang for the lulz?

A style over substance six cylinder car for rich teenagers made from extra Falcon parts?

The Mustang has come a long way from when it originally was released. I like what my car can compete against. But I think supercar territory is just stupid.
