Hi Everyone, I have a little question, in order to access the Race Camp, you need to make bronze at least in the first three rounds, and in the final round you need to be one of the fastest of your country right ? Your time in the first three rounds doesn't matter much in fact ?
Thank you.

Well reading through this thread has been very interesting. I've just been playing about 2 hours of this challenge so far, recording for Episode 2 of my 'Rookie's Guide to GT Academy' series, and at several points I actually checked the tires to make sure they were racing hards - I had NO grip at all. Literally none. It felt like I was on Soft or even Comfort tires.

The car really doesn't feel like a GT3 car at all. I remarked in the recording that surely GTRs are agile, and have good feel. This was just numb - turn in, nothing, understeer for days, then sudden violent oversteer when you touch the gas. Which at a track like Brands Hatch is just an evil combo to have. :grumpy:

Hence, the censor bleep will be being worked overtime in my video...ended with a 1:26.129, which I'm still pleased about, but that came with a LOT of retries. And now finding out the grip was likely compromised has annoyed me further...never mind, more speed to come next time I have a tilt at it. :mischievous:

That's exactly my thoughts as well. Matter of fact, that's pretty much what I said in another thread, feels like between SS and RH....or maybe just SS. At any rate, the grip level certainly doesn't feel like RH, that's for sure.

Hmm. Managed to get into the 25s buttonbashing on the pad pretty easily, with about half a second left from all my best sectors put together. Wheel time it is!

Hey people... May I ask one of you faster people to try out TC 5 and see if you can match or beat your times???

I read in Round 1 that some of you forgot to change TC settings and were still getting good times... Is it the same again? I tried it and immediately crushed my TC 0 time but it doesn't seem as bad as it was in Round 1.

Please and Thank you

Cheers

I was experimenting with these settings last night and set my best time with TC 2 and ABS 10. Too early to tell imo however if it was just a fluke or if those settings actually helped. More experimentation/testing is needed to come to any good conclusion. With the wonky physics in these events, I make sure to leave no stone unturned.

Ok this event really felt much better for the car actually does something else than just understeers everywhere lol :D

First time I enter the event it feels like I have enough grip, or actually after round 1 it felt like I had all the grip in the world in fact  kept on driving over 300 km and my best lap so far was 1.23.0xx, started to feel bit tired to be honest but still decided to restart the event, everything looked exactly same but still I managed to improve nearly 2 tenths in 20 laps or so :boggled: 1.22.843 is not too bad if you look at my firs round result  but yeah, the car is much much more fun to drive that is for sure, really can't tell what's idea with this restarts stuff though :odd:

Mmmmmm 1.24.407 for now, but what really pissed me off is the grip difference that you can feel when you restart the event... and i'm pretty sure it's not a placebo effect. :dopey:

This is so far shaping up to be a awesome week for me! First Dale Earnhardt Jr. wins the Talladega race, then the second round of GT Academy is launched with one of my favorite GT3 cars! And the track isn't Suzuka! Can't wait till Saturday when i'll get a chance to try it!

Is it just me who preferred the last round?

If there's something I really hate in GT6, it's a bad differential set up- way too much oversteer entering the corner, snap oversteer when getting on the power and mountains of understeer under power (when not lighting up the rear tyres). The GT-R in the last round just had nice, predictable understeer. This is a whole new level of :yuck:.

1:23.0 after about 30 minutes. That's about all I could stand.

Hello All

I'm playing mostly because I like the challenge - am too old to race real cars, and have no realistic expectation of winning, although I'm very competitive and would like to do well.. :)

I use a standard PS2/3 controller and notice that most (if not all) the top times seem to use a specific controller:
"Steering Type: 900° Sequential Gearbox Steering Controller"

Please can someone enlighten me as it seems virtually impossible to get near those times with a standard controller - what controller is this?

Hi mate, 'google' dfgt, g25, g27, tt500, tt300 - they're all steering wheels.

OK thanks - I thought that was a specific type - presume you need a good one - have tried a cheap wheel and it was horrible..

I usually play with a DS3 on the sticks and auto but have dragged my cronky old (200deg) wheel out for GT Academy so I can get a few more tenths.
Don't necessarily need a good one, just so long as it all works.
I'd say the most important thing is a good seating arrangement which doesn't move around.

So, Round 2 is live and I had a go at it: 1:23:799. I think there's much more tim to be found - as always-, but the sub 1:24 came pretty easily!

Any wheel that has (or is set to) both a sequential shift (paddles or unidirectional gearlever) and 900 degree mode will show up as "900 Degree Sequential Gearbox Steering Controller".

Most will be Logitech G25/27 or DFP/DFGT, with the remainder likely to be almost all Fanatec or Thrustmaster wheels.

Hurr. Went to the G25 and instantly took a second off, with absolutely loads of time on the track still. I won't be challenging the 21s, but there's a 23 in there somewhere.

The gears on the GT3 Nissan's are awful. A millisecond late on upshift and it hits the limiter and dies. Hateful gearbox, but not too bad. The cones really restrict me here, I'm used to getting two wheels on the grass on the inside of most turns here.

Third lap in, I managed to run a 1:26.664 on a DS3. Currently sitting 4,818th on the leaderboards. Not like I'm that high up, but that's probably one of the best runs I've had in a GTA event. Car felt kinda swirly, but the turn in was absolutly great. As long as you don't punch the gas out of the turns, you should be good to go.

I like this round!

1:23,408 after a few tries (DS3)
Fortunately, the car handles much much better that last year's Final Round at Spa ;)

EDIT: YEAH!!! 1:22,882

It's a bit disheartening how some tracks/car combinations just don't make any sense to me. I was at 1:24.4xx on my own, trying to figure it all out.

I watched a top 10 replay, and within 10 minutes was down to 1:23.299. Mixed feelings. Would have never figured out the technique on my own.

Many thanks - I'll get one and give it a try :)

2 Laps done and I'm not doing any more of this combo, not a fan of BHGP nor of the Nismo GT3 - low 24 laptime on the pad, 600th at the moment, that'll do :P
