I completely agree. The ffb on the thing is just horrendous, almost to the point of undrivable. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am right now. It pains me to say this, but I'm done, not going to participate any longer. If people wanna continue saying this will separate the men from the boys, well that's fine, I'll be a boy but al least I'll still have a working wheel. Good luck everyone, hope you all reach your dreams.....and have working wheels at the end of this. I'm done.
Hey Cargo, I've read your post from the other threads about how you never give up, no matter the circumstances. Even driving with half your body paralysed. That to me speaks volumes of your dedication and tenacity (the Finns have a word for it: sisu - look it up
![Wink ;) ;)](/wp-content/themes/gtp16/images/smilies/wink.svg?v=3)
). Now the GT-R is an absolutely awful car to drive, I agree. And the FFB is probably bugged as well. But give it another go tomorrow when you're in a better frame of mind. Go in with zero expectations. I'm sure you'll adapt to it like you've always have 👍
Also a general tip to those who have trouble:
LOWER THE FFB SENSITIVITY. FFB strength isn't the problem here, it's FFB sensitivity. For some reason with this car on this track the bumps make it go all crazy. I suspect it's because the car bottoms out a lot (like the Formula GT and Red Bull cars) because of a couple of factors:
1) Massive front downforce. It has 1500 front, which is the same as Red Bull and Lotus 97!!! Normally LMP only have 600 front. Heck even the FGT only have 700.
2) Very low ride height at the front, and big difference to the rear. Effectively the car is nose diving even at static load. Add to that heavy front + more front downforce (1.5x front than rear) the car is effectively slamming the front axle against the ground at high speeds.
3) Very soft rear ride height, soft dampers and minimum antiroll bars contribute to above.
4) La Sarthe is a bumpy track, even for normal cars.
I don't know how the real car is, but I suspect it has some filtering effect in the power steering. Either that, or PD messed up the stock suspension setup and/or downforce calculations. In any case, lowering FFB sensitivity helps a lot. It's not perfect, but it's at least drivable for long periods.
Trying to sprint an endurance car like this isn't much fun for us nutters who like to throw a car on the balance of the grip point. The car just understeers (as it's fairly obvious it would, just by looking at the tyres.) This round is all about the smooth and having the precision to brake at just the right point and stay on just the right line to haul the car into the low speed corners without incident. With my driving style, I've never come across a car that really doesn't do what I want it to as this. Perhaps the fully tuned Taunus SHO... I wound myself off to 8/10ths, braked early, used a higher gear in one or two places, and bang, a gold time.
I took my prize NISMO to Apricot Hill after to see if I could dial in a tune for it, and went from a 1m12 stock to 1m09 with a tad more brakes, bit of rear bias, more damping, 0/0/0/0 camber/toe, a stiffer rear antirollbar and 20ish/30ish/5 on the LSD. The car is all about downforce and front grip, you just have to know your target corner speed - there isn't much scope for adjusting it on the fly.
That's exactly how I feel too. Oddly this car requires even more precision than the Ridge Racer style drifting of the previous 2 rounds. The balance at high speeds is oversteer because of the higher front downforce, but at low speeds it becomes understeer due to heavy front. Then on power there's massive torque steer. You have to employ 2-3 driving techniques in one corner, so if your approach is even slightly wrong on entry, you are done. The cones don't really help either.
I find braking as late as possible helps to maximise the downforce on entry. Also at the chicanes it helps to tap the brake a little bit at the apex to help it rotate. Then it's a matter of patience, half throttle and waiting for steering to straighten up before giving full beans.
Looking at the Data Logger compared to the top times, I find that I'm losing time in braking (too scared because of it's high speed instability), but I'm on par at corner exit. Whereas in previous rounds it's the opposite

- I gain time braking, and lose it on exit (because I'm terrible at drifting RWDs). I have to switch my brain 180 degree for this round. Super frustrating, but I haven't felt this intrigued by a car in a long long time
It's gonna be an interesting 2 weeks. Good luck everyone
