Would be unfair to say what Nico ended up doing wasn't bad, although it was still a tad bit passive, as he mainly locked up a tiny bit and deliberately ran wide. Those two things obviously screwed over Lewis, but it was surprising to see Nico get the worst of it (guess it was because Lewis's tire hit the wing...the tire will usually win).

Also, I was really curious about those late rapid fire retirements, with Massa, Alonso and Hulkenburg, all basically one after another. I was doing a lot of moaning towards the end of this race unfortunately for me!

It wasn't the smartest move
Which has been a hallmark of some of Hamilton's moves this year. The contact in Spain was another example of where he should have seen another driver's defensive move coming, and threw away a prime opportunity further down the road.

It might be because the wing was stuck under the car as apposed to it just sliding away.
It disintegrated pretty quickly, and the initial shots showed that it was largely intact. Rosberg may not have been aware that it was detached before it collapsed completely.

No, I'm saying that Rosberg's defensive move was entirely predictable and that Hamilton was not in a position to claim that he had gotten past. Even if they had avoided contact, Hamilton's only hope was to run wide on the exit. The pass wasn't happening. Given his position, he had to turn in or else be hung out to dry. He just turned sooner than Rosberg, hence the contact.

Also, that looked like a dangerous rejoin - I get that he was racing Rosberg, but you can't rejoin at speed like that. Especially when you know that there's a car there. You're accelerating into a wedge that's rapidly closing, and if you cross onto the grass, it's an accident waiting to happen.

You're going to need evidence of that, even if you're only suggesting it.

He turner sooner alright... as in Rosberg didnt turn at all. He just went straight...

In five words... it was beautifull. Poetic justice.

You might want to look at the photos above. The contact happened because Rosberg went virtually straight on instead of around the corner. Once again, Hamilton was perfectly entitled to put his car where he did, even if a pass wouldn't work.

And as the driver leading into the corner, he was only required to leave Nico a car's width of space on the inside.

He left him several.

Nico hit Lewis way, way, waaaay off the racing line.

It's likely not Nico's fault, as he apparently had brake issues. But there is no way in hell that one is on Lewis.

On board shows that Rosberg wasn't even attempting to turn into the corner until he was miles past the apex.

Am I correct in saying Lewis shouldn't have overtaken around Turn 3?

You are correct, there were yellow flags at T3. However he was past before the corner and yellow.

Hamilton was NEVER going to be able to drive around the outside of Rosberg. Nobody else has been able to do it there. Ever. Once again, he makes a short-sighted move that results in contact. Even GP3 drivers know that you can't go around the outside there, so why is a three-time World Champion doing it?
News just-in, man on forum says nobody has ever overtaken another car round the outside of a corner. It's still completely beside the point though as Rosberg was on the inside. Where should Hamilton go? Divebomb up the inside? Levitate over him?

That was pretty awful from Rosberg. Very daft move.

That mistake that Hamilton was talking about that Nico made was that Nico took too much kerb into turn one and too much on the exit of it, and Hamilton did overtake just before the yellows...

Rosberg's interview with Buxton was pretty funny. He basically said because he is on the inside he can do what he wants.

Toto definitely trying to shrug off the blame. But would you as a team manager?

The question was "should Nico have turned in sooner?" And Toto responds saying the brakes were gone. Like no mate, that wasn't the question!

Rosberg's fault. Yes he has the corner but there's no sportsmanship in running someone off track on the outside. Lewis has to turn in at some point, and even if Nico had succeeded in running Lewis off the track then the stewards would have something to say about that. What a joke of an explanation, racecraft too.

You don't have to like Lewis but for the fans, the booing is a disgrace. It wasn't even his fault.

Judging from the replays, Nico's defence was reminiscent of his borderline dirty overtakes at turn 1 (and I think 11 as well) of one of the recent Bahrain GPs where he forces the driver defending from the outside wide upon entry to the corner. This time it went all wrong.

No attempt to turn into the apex.

where he should have seen another driver's defensive move coming

Your efforts to make this Hamilton's fault are pathetic. Drivers don't have to back off because they think the defender will indeed defend. They expect the defensive move but they expect them to do it fairly and cleanly. If Rosberg had turned in properly there wouldn't have been contact and they'd have been side by side through the corner, as is racing. Rosberg is likely to win out but for the last time, that does not mean a driver is not entitled to attempt it.

New evidence came out that a yellow flag came out just before Hamilton went to overtake.

This entire event won't be over for a long time!

Forget what Toto and Lauda say in public.

Rosberg is going to get a proper bollocking for that in private

Great drives from Button, Grosjean and Wehrlein, really enjoyed the race overall, some good action ad good overtakes 👍

It's my understanding that you are allowed to pass a disabled or very slow moving car so it should be a non-issue.
It's not specifically stated in the rules, according to Anthony Davidson. He said it was a grey area. Although I'd agree with you.
