I... quite like it.

It's grown on me, and I don't know why.
Yeah, the more I see it, the less I mind it. The shock value has worn off pretty quickly.

I actually don't mind the front at all - the rear is more difficult to get your head around. The creases and the wide bar across the tailgate at the top of the lights make it look like the entire car gets wider towards the rear. I suspect it doesn't, and the shot of the Wald car further up suggests the car gets narrower above the belt line (it wouldn't be ideal aerodynamically to be wider at the back) but the styling certainly makes it look that way.

Based on what I saw at NAIAS, it really seemed to depend on the color. The typical white/silver/black seemed to blend in with the rest of the Toyota models in a way that their red one couldn't. It was like the red showed off every awkward angle of the car at once, it was very difficult to get over. But, all of that being said, it seems like a better proportioned car, at least in terms of height/length, than the old model.

Less stodgy might be better in the long run. Honda's using the same move on the Civic, after all...

The video is just a taster. Begin your descent into pure madness here on Toyota's site. Oh Japan, you glorious place.

It's not anime.

Too little loli.

Seriously, that double wishbone girl doesn't seem happy. That's a terrible costume design.

Still can't stand these extended tail-lights. Mitsubishi's new truck has them too. The answer to a question nobody's ever seriously asked: "Do I want light fixtures so damn big they'll crack every time someone nudges my bumper?"

It looks like a straight up concept car. Which by itself is pretty cool, except in this case the concept was never good looking in the first place.:yuck:

Yeah I like that's it's so 'out there' that it kinda looks cool, like a concept car. Although the rear does remind me of a garbage truck!

The new Prius is not a pretty thing. I prefer the Mirai and that is a challenging car in styling terms too.

Japanese car design as a whole is not great at the moment bar Lexus, Mazda and some Nissans. Subaru is incapable of designing anything appealing while Honda have a few duff models in the new CR-V and HR-V.

Eh, anyway... Prius is gross.

Imagine starting up a Prius and then come out the "Nya!" sound.
Imagine it begins calling you "Senpai."

O_O
All this effort into an ugly car. ;_;

Toyota, do the startup "Nyaa!" and "Senpai!" thing on a sportscar and that'd be the best thing since sliced bread.

If it did that, I would go and torch every single one I could find.

Seen it in person at the Montreal Auto Show last night, sat in one as well. The interior is almost as bad as the exterior, you'd really have to be very special in all the wrong ways to buy one.

First time I've seen this car and wow. What a looker but for not the right reasons  I'm not artistic person but which person at Toyota looked at that and said "Yes! That's what our Prius will look like" I'm gonna go search for some technical informatiom on this "car". It is an hybrid* car and it's quite late so I probably won't be up for long...

If only Top Gear was still around I imagine the news to look like this:

A Japanese design studio. From what I can gather, this car hasn't attracted nearly as much ire in Japan itself as it has done outside the country. Definitely a difference in cultural perceptions.

You might spend longer than intended, since it's a hybrid, not an electric car...

I think it looks awesome. People always complained that the Prius looked bland and boring, now Toyota went radical and people say its ugly. I guess some people will hate on the Prius no matter what Toyota does.

It's supposed to be bland and boring. The previous gen was at least something I didn't mind seeing on the road, because the styling matched the car; simple but functional. Nothing wrong with being a commuter car and knowing what you are. Now it looks like a Picasso reject and it just grabs the eye and won't let me look away, no matter how hard I try. And the marketing team pretty much defined "try hard" with their SuperBowl ad:

I can only hope this was Toyota poking fun at themselves, but seeing how aggressive the styling is, I can't help but feel the commercial was meant to be taken somewhat seriously. They're not doing owners any favors by provoking truck owners(Toyota makes trucks as well, in case they didn't know) who already tend to give Prius drivers grief, either.

In germany the Prius Plug In Hybrid seems to be priced too high.

From german Toyota site:

Prius Plugin Hybrid
Entry Price: 36,6k €
ICE: 99HP
E-drive: 82HP
Combined: 136HP
Range (e-drive only): 2km (is true??? seems way to low)

Lets take a look at the Audi A3 e-tron

Audi A3 E-tron
Entry Price: 37,9K €
ICE: 150hp
E-drive: 102hp
Combined: 204hp
range (e-drive only): 50km (According to Audi, I managed to get about 37km)

In germany the Audi seems to be a better deal (I also prefer its looks, hope they do a A3 e-tron sedon too)

Probably because anything that sold inside the production country almost always priced lower than the others?
