2017 F1 Constructor technical info/developmentFormula 1

If I remember correctly, Haas F1 Team is using the same engine as Ferrari, correct? So does that mean if Ferrari upgrade their engine, Does Haas get the upgrades as well?

God mother:censored: damn it, that Mercedes looks even better now if it weren't already one sexy F1 car...

I especially love the little Finland flag blended into the paintwork on the fin.

Probably, though probably not straight away. Most manufacturers like to run the engines for a while before passing them along. They want a performance advantage, but they also want to make sure it works. And each individual team is on its own engine use schedule, so they won't want to run a new power unit before they're ready to take an entirely new one.

Yeah Finland for Bottas and Union Jack for Lewis. Pretty cool when you see the actual non-studio photos on both cars.

Did you see the little youtube video they put up showing them making it? They simply took the flags and photoshopped them onto the back of an image of the car. I wish they used more of the shark fin though instead of that tiny bit that sticks out. The whole thing should be the flag with the numbers standing out, maybe 20% larger too.

Why? Shouldn't there and aren't there other rules that prevents a carousel of pay drivers? Just the fact that they'd have to change liveries and that's not allowed is a pretty thin explanation if it's just that. Just because they're pay drivers they would demand the livery change with them? I've never known a livery to be associated with a specific driver, always the team. Oh well...

Timo Glock was just teasing right? He's not going anywhere?

No, it's to stop smaller teams from setting up a carousel of pay drivers and constantly revising the livery.
The 4 drivers max rule already prevents that to some extent. I doubt people will ever be ok with the way it stopped us from having 2 beautiful BAR's in 1999 and instead 2 abominations.

There is a reason Merc opted for the size of the shark fin they did, because they think the bigger more pronounced t-wing is better. The flags aren't photoshopped onto the car, since there are current pictures showing the cars at the track with them.

So WTF happened to the massive update to the RB13 for this round?
There is actually a substantial update - the car is pretty much what they should have started the season with. People just got carried away with talk of a b-spec car or RB14.

The photoshop is how they designed what the decal will look like before printing and applying. They did it with the numbers making them larger and what not. I wish I could link the video but my computer sucks.

Okay I mean so what they do that with all the stuff that gets put on the car livery wise, I've seen them do it with other parts of the car and on many teams. Like Ferrari for instance and their weird print jobs that aren't mirror image.

Anyways new upgrade images

There's zero need to act like that.

I can't see Fernando finishing the season with the way things are going.

Many of your posts are VERY condescending/rude in tone. It seems like you treat everyone else as an idiot/beneath yourself.

"okay I mean so what?" Was unnecessary and absolutely reads as if you're talking down to someone who had no prior knowledge of the subject.

Strange I get the same feeling from your posts, yet don't feel the need to try and call you out because I could very well be wrong. This has and is my general direction when I type posts since joining. Now if you feel this is in fact bad behavior feel free to report. This is the internet and you infer whatever tone you decide to read a post in, that doesn't mean that it was such.

Sure it was, considering I'm putting it in a way that asks the user to explain what they're trying to get at. They seem themselves to be giving so slight toward the method Mercedes used to make their new driver images. Which is a method many use, so I was curious how or if that takes away from the final result seen on the track (to me it doesn't).

Now if you still have issue with me and my posting style there are a few options you can take that I would implore you to look into. One put me on your ignore list of users. Two, if this post doesn't clear up the direction of my posting and non malicious responses then you could contact me privately to discuss further. Finally you could actually have accepted my first response and move on, considering many times when I do misunderstand a user I apologize, or make sure they don't think I'm coming off rude when I don't understand them.

Since this is all off topic and has nothing to do with the subject, I will move on now. You should do the same.

They have a series of major updates planned throughout the season, and they have been receiving external assistance - believed to be from Mercedes, but Honda are keeping quiet on exactly who it is - with their long-term plans.

Granted you have to respect the fear that many still have on McLaren. I myself was giving McHonda the benefit of the doubt during winter testing, but after three years it's a bit tough to think at any point they'll get a grip on things. So I guess all we can do is hope it works out for them.

To be fair, they were - the engine at the end of 2016 was significantly better than the engine at the start of 2015. Their chassis have all looked pretty well-balanced; I know Alonso was joking about being the fastest through the corners, but if you look at the times through the second sector in Mexico - which is all corners - they weren't far off Mercedes. So McLaren still know how to build a good chassis. Once they figure out how to make the engine work properly, I expect they will improve almost overnight.

Well it's not McLaren that people worry about in the McHonda name, it's the Honda branding. And while the engine at the start of 16 was better it was because it was a evolution of the failed 15, and even then it had many problems but yes far less than 15 and probably 17.

However, we all know that everyone is blaming Honda, but since it's McLaren as a team with Honda, the fear is obviously placed on the constructor and further destroying its legacy. I don't know if they'll improve over night though when they figure out the engines due to all the other things that go along with it that also need to be figured out that they're on the back leg with. Like strategy from race to race, or seeing what aero works best with the engine at full power (though there are sims for that stuff), and tire deg when at full racing power too. I believe they'll leap frog teams but they'll still have a hard time getting back to the top end.

Maybe, but at least they're in control of their own destiny. I think Ron Dennis had a point when he said that the only way to win a championship is to establish a relationship with a new supplier. As a McLaren fan, I'd rather see them crash and burn with Honda than see them play second fiddle to the likes of Mercedes.

I agree with this, I've always said you can only win in F1 if you are your own boss and decider, you can't do that if your the b-team or customer.
