2017 F1 Constructor technical info/developmentFormula 1

I think Ricciardo is best to hold station at RB. The Renault PU is not far off Mercedes and Ferrari according to people in the know, and I have no doubt Red Bull will bring some major aero revisions soon. Looking at how simple the car is in it's current form aero wise, there's plenty to go on in that area.

Which should be somewhat scary for those who are ahead of them, if RBR was just fighting it out with say Renault and Haas, then I'd not see any worry. However, they're easily third in points when you take into consideration they've had 3 cars fail. Sure Williams has Stroll, but even with Massa it's been shown that race pace wise RBR are faster and third best, with not much to threaten that, especially if they have a new car coming that isn't the RB13 B. Now if the RB13 is a B form car, then I still say it's a positive step.

I think this is also the reason we see Mercedes somewhat floundering around this season. They already have their hands full with a quick and ever improving Ferrari, their own car being susceptive of overheating and greedy on the tires, and still not very efficient in traffic - which the Ferrari clearly is. And now they've got to watch their backs from the charging Bulls. They already have a descent performing car with the rather conservative aero package already on the car. No doubt Newey still has a few tricks left up his sleeve.

I guess I'm just full of frustration with Renault & now that Red Bull don't have the best chassis, it's added to it.

Renault isn't that weak though, and past seasons prove it. They're always going to be behind Merc in power because it seems Renault are trying to achieve a different performance. Now it could be worse, it could be an engine failing all the time or a car that is scraping it out with the sister team for point. Rather Daniel has a solid foundation to work on, he seems excited about the 'weapon' as he's called the new RBR. So let's hope it works and we get a 3 way battle going into the summer.

Also merc are bringing a sizable update to Spain this weekend too. So it should be interesting for the top half of the field.

Imitation is the best form of flattery, if you can see what Merc has done that copies ferrari here, you win.

As for the new driver info update, it looks good on some and strange on others. This one would be cool if the shark fin merc adopted after they went full t-wing wasn't dorky. RBR one looks classy.

Shock and horror, a random dude on a Dutch forum was wrong.

By the way for anyone looking it's the same car that we've seen this isn't the B-Spec. This is just showcasing the new driver stuff

Whatever they've copied from the Ferrari has got me stumped. Clues?

Couldn't they just force a horsepower limit like in many other series? Do different teams get more out of the MGU than others or is that universal?

There is no good solution. No manufacturer aims at series which heavily dictate parity between cars. Maybe for customer car programs like you see in GT3, etc. But for a manufacturer backed racing team like you get in Formula 1, the top tier teams have zero interest in leveling the field. They want/need/demand being able to excel and beat other teams (however possible). If you started leveling the playing field - you'll lose some of the top teams. Perhaps their places would be taken by other manufacturers, but if you aim to please the lower tier teams with easing the cost of entry, etc. you risk alienating the top level/top budget teams who want to benefit from their own advantages.

Oh, I agree...just saying it's never a simple choice. I don't much care about F1, so I don't think it can get any "worse" from a lack of competition/lack of teams standpoint. It's gotta go somewhere.
